Review for Fetal Health Foundation, Littleton, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a story about two people who, when faced with a very dire prognosis, realized how little information and how few treatments were available for people experiencing a serious fetal syndrome. Since that time, the Fetal Health Foundation has been providing information and hope when people really need it most. Can't say enough good things about this organization.

Review for Growing Home, Inc., Westminster, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I originally found out about Growing Home in 2008, and I believe I saw them on volunteermatch.org. I volunteered in the office for a year or so before moving 50 miles away. I still volunteer for them, mostly from home, helping with marketing and eNewsletter production.

Growing Home is just an amazing organization that helps entire families through multiple programs, like Parents as Teachers, Sprouts after-school classes, transitional housing, rent assistance, and a great food bank. I think Growing Home sets itself apart by really focusing on allowing clients to maintain their dignity.

I am a volunteer and a donor, and I can't say enough good things about this group of dedicated people.

Review for Nyaka Aids Orphans Project, East Lansing, MI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project is helping children in rural Uganda by providing them an education. This story is not just about building schools, though. They have also built a gravity-fed water system for the entire area, opened a medical clinic, and started a library and a garden. The whole-person and whole- community idea is the reason Nyaka does such a great job. They are also very, very creative about development, and they communicate by social media often, keeping me feeling like I really am in the loop.

I am a volunteer, helping remotely with the Sponsor-a-Student program, but I am a supporter, too, sponsoring students and, in 2012, helping my daughter with a bake sale fundraiser for Nyaka.

I love the Nyaka School. This organization does work for the AIDS orphans and their grandmothers in many ways. In addition to providing a school, uniforms, meals, and school supplies, they have built housing for some of the grandmothers who are caring for children who have lost both parents to AIDS. They have also helped provide running water and a medical facility. I have met Jackson Kaguri once, and he seems like a very genuine person, and one with great ideas about helping the orphans of Uganda.
