Review for Greyhound Pets Of America, Los Lunas, NM, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've been volunteering with this GPA group aka New Mexico Greyhound Connection, off and on for several years. They are pro-greyhound and neither promote nor denigrate greyhound racing, even tho' the President currently owns in partnership a single racing greyhound. The group is a 100% VOLUNTEER organization with no people taking a salary or gift in kind. It is also supported by public donations, which are tax deductible because it is a tax exempt charity. They take in greyhounds that are in need of a new home and work to find appropriate homes for the dogs.

Review for A PLACE FOR US GREYHOUND RESCUE, Lubbock, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

A Place for Us Greyhounds (APFUG) was founded in 1996 in New Mexico and it is a 501 (c) 3, tax exempt charity. APFUG was founded with the goal of placing greyhounds from all walks of life into appropriate pet homes. The organization is neutral on the subject of greyhound racing. APFUG has placed retired racing greyhounds, cold blood (coyote hunter) greyhounds, greyhound mixes, and also the occasional AKC greyhounds that have found themselves in trouble and without a place to go. APFUG exists totally on tax deductible donations from the public, as well as from the occasional yard sales & auctions that are held. IT IS RUN ENTIRELY BY VOLUNTEERS. Not a single worker or director accepts any kind of salary or gift in kind. ALL MONIES go to providing DIRECT SERVICES TO THE DOGS! Linda Dunn, President, was the first person to establish a relationship with the isolated greyhound breeders in the TX panhandle. The group is now based in Lubbock, TX, which is where it relocated after the original NM branch shut down. For a very small group, APFUG does outstanding work!

Review for GREY2K USA Worldwide, Arlington, MA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

As the founder of a Greyhound adoption group, A Place for Us Greyhounds, I can state that Grey2K does nothing to help the dogs. They come in and leave nothing but destruction in their wake. They leave people without jobs and dogs without a place to go. When asked to help with the dogs, they say, "not my problem" and walk away. Grey2K has an effective propaganda machine. Much of the info that they divvy out to the unsuspecting public is either old, from overseas, and/or an outright fabrication. They take "facts" and distort them. One such "fact" surrounds injuries. G2K makes every injury out to be catastrophic, when the greatest portion of them could be something as minute as a broken toenail. Examples of this exist in all of New England, especially MA, RI & CT. G2K takes in hundreds of thousands of dollars. They pass themselves off as an 'adoption' group. None of that money is ever used to provide direct services for the dogs & the groups that serve them. All that money, which could do so much good, is spent on lobbying, propaganda, and salaries. None of it is tax deductible. Also, Grey2K is under investigation for election fraud. Grey2K is a sham, not a charity.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Picking up the mess they leave in their wake, i.e., taking & transporting displaced greyhounds and then finding them a home. Convincing people that these dogs make wonderful pets and that the dogs are not "damaged goods" as potential adopters believe because of the Grey2K fabrications of abuse.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Get rid of it. They do so much harm.

How does this organization compare with others in the same sector?

Badly

How much of an impact do you think this organization has?

Life-changing

No

What is unique about this organization?

They are a political action / lobbying group passing themselves off as greyhound benefactors. Several of their BOD members also serve with the group, Stop Predatory Gambling. I believe the true purpose of Grey2K is to outlaw gambling and they are using the good people in dogs and the dogs themselves to accomplish that goal.

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & Founded a 501(c)3 greyhound adoption group and placed retired racing greyhounds into appropriate homes.

This review was posted by a dog racing supporter who breeds show greyhounds, and is not factually accurate. The notion that we do not support greyhound adoption is false. Although we are an advocacy organization, we actively support greyhound adoption in several ways. We regularly ask our tens of thousands of supporters to consider adopting, and also directly support local greyhound adoption organizations. Regarding our research, it is based on data from the dog racing industry itself. For example, the injury data we have obtained comes directly from state records. Finally, GREY2K USA has no position on gambling. We are a non-profit greyhound protection organization.

Also, the claim that GREY2K USA is "under investigation for election fraud" is completely false.
