Review for CASA for Children of DC, Washington, DC, USA
I completed my training as a CASA in December 2020 and was immediately paired with a youngster languishing in the court system. I found tremendous support from CASA staff to help me figure out how to get a handle on this rather complex case. I received great ideas and guidance all along the way, I really felt like the regular coaching I got strengthened what I did with and for my mentee, and the reports that I wrote for court. The special events and offerings added incredible value. I've been meaning to become a CASA for many years, and I'm really glad that I did!
Review for CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA
As a board member with the DC Center, I have found the entire staff of Center Link to be incredibly accommodating, resourceful, knowledgeable, timely, and ultimately inspirational for our local work.

Review for StandUp for Kids, Decatur, GA, USA
This program is an incredible representation of community organizing to address the multisystemic, incredibly complex needs of homeless and runaway youth. And to think it's all done by volunteers who have kids, jobs that pay, and other demands...yet still get out on the streets, and into the shelters, and stay on kids that need guidance, and nurture those that have no other supports... that's an incredible testament to the culture of StandUp For Kids and the power of every community to address the needs of its most vulnerable population.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeking support from partnering community agencies and organizations.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
improve measurement and evaluation; hire the very best PR and development staff at national level; stop being so humble about what services we provide and changes we make!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
a feeling of real change and the friendships that come with the youth and volunteers from wide swaths of life
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
incredibly dedicated
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
open drop-in centers and coordinate housing support for thousands of youth around the country.
Ways to make it better...
i had known on day 1 what i know now about volunteer development and community partnerships.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
growth in numbers of homeless youth met with increased competition for limited funds.
One thing I'd also say is that...
for what limited resources the program has, it does one heck of a lot and it never falls through for the kids.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every week
