Review for Aquinas Literacy Center, Chicago, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have volunteered as an ESL tutor with Aquinas Literacy Center for two years and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have worked with the same student for much of this time, and have been impressed with his dedication and his progress. The staff has been friendly and helpful in preparing tutors for the experience of working with students. The center feels like a genuine community comprised of tutors, students and staff.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing my student complete an entire beginners book and make significant progress in a second, intermediate book.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find some way to encourage group interaction among students on a more regular basis. There is so much they can learn from one another.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The dedication of my student. He is there every week, and is eager to learn.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All very nice and eager to help. It is a relatively small organization, but everyone was excited to be involved and contributing to a cause we all care about.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Open branches in different communities throughout the city, and offer a mix of beginning, intermediate and advanced classes.

Ways to make it better...

There were more opportunities for tutors to learn from one another.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The lack of a sophisticated presence on the web.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
