Review for CompTIA Spark, Downers Grove, IL, USA
My daughter and I volunteered as Testers for Techshop in a Box lesson plans by TechGirlz. We had a great time on a summer afternoon taking apart a computer and learning about the different components inside. My daughter felt very empowered by this and has since opened up another computer and compared it, and has her eyes set on disassembling an old laptop next!
Since I do not have a technical background, the Techshop in a Box curriculum facilitated this adventure and learning experience for both of us. We plan to "test" another set of lesson plans next week!
Review for Pittsburgh Urban Christian School (PUCS), Pittsburgh, PA, USA
We joined PUCS after 5 years of homeschooling and we have had a wonderful experience. All three of my kids have felt supported and cared for by their teachers. I have been very happy with the curriculum and the hands-on learning that engages my somewhat reluctant learners. For instance, my middle schooler came home saying that he had just had the best history class ever -- his teacher made marshmallow shooters for each of them and allowed them to reenact the battles of Lexington and Concord. I'm sure that he will never forget it. At PUCS, my children are engaged in the learning experience.

Review for Nine Mile Run Watershed Association Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA
NMRWA has been so generous with my children's school, Pittsburgh Urban Christian School, in Wilkinsburg. They spent a lot of time consulting with us about the possibility of installing a rain garden in our backyard. Then, when we decided to move forward, but had not received the needed grant money, they donated time, plants, and the use of their tools to assist us with the rain garden install. At every juncture, the staff working for NMRWA has been professional, helpful, and informative. A special thank you to Sarah and Paul!
