Review for Fresno Bully Rescue, Inc., Sanger, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I adopted my Marlie from Fresno Bully Rescue a little over 7 years ago and she is amazing. They took her mom in as a stray through their foster care program until her puppies were able to be adopted. Their shelter is always clean, the staff easy to find, helpful and very knowledgeable. They do such an important job here in the valley educating people on the breed. Nothing but good things to say about FBR. Keep up the amazing work!

Review for Westside Rescue Inc, Clovis, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Westside Rescue is an amazing group dedicated to helping the homeless with their pets by supplying food, immunizations, helping spay/neuter, etc. They hold an annual Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless on G street in Fresno along with a clothing drive and immunization clinic. Amazing people!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the work they do with the homeless and how much they care for the pets. I went with a group after the Thanksgiving dinner in 2010 to the tents in which some of the people live to talk to them about their animal's health and how they can help.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

help them do more to raise funds to help their cause. They need help bringing more awareness to their organization.

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Definitely

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Very Well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

They are such great people that volunteers are made to feel like family. Maybe they can hold an orientation prior to going down town one Friday night every month or two to recruit new volunteers and walk them through the process.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Absolutely. I had never seen the poverty and need for these services first hand until I went with Westside Rescue. It's a life changing experience.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Blessed. I am so lucky to have a home, a car and a job. I have family and friends to help me through hard times. Some of these people don't have any of those luxuries.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Review for Fresno Bully Rescue, Inc., Sanger, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Fresno Bully Rescue is an awesome, and desperately needed, save haven for pitties in the Central Valley. They are run completely on donations and volunteer efforts. They are constantly coming up with fun and creative fund raisers and have a huge following.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

They were able to take in a dog that we found left at a foreclosed home with no food or water, thin, covered in fleas and ticks. They went and rescued him right after we called. It was very fortunate because they don't' normally have an open space as they always have a waiting list due to the overpopulation problem created by back yard breeders in the area. They take very good care of the dogs and make certain they go to great homes.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them unlimited funds to help more pitties. The only thing holding them back is their budget. The more volunteers and funds being donated the more lives they can save.

They do a great job recruiting volunteers but maybe to help them stay connected they could do a volunteer newsletter or a Facebook group specifically for volunteers? They do a great job already!

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Absolutely. FBR was the first rescue I was involved with and it taught me sooo much! They know the breed inside and out, have great media contacts, trainers and a very dedicated staff that I have become very close with over the past few years. The impact they have on the pitties they take in is just amazing.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

It feels great helping to save lives and find homes for pitties. Educating the public is a priority of theirs and probably one of the biggest challenges due to all of the negative stereotypes about the breed.

Role:  Volunteer & help with events, walking dogs, orientations - whatever they need.

Review for Animal Compassion Team of California, Squaw Valley, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Animal Compassion Team runs completely based on the generosity of the community and volunteers. They do so much with what little resources they have and in their short existence have already become one of the biggest rescues in the Central Valley, if not the biggest, in terms of rescuing and adopting animals. Not only do they work hard to help get animals out of local kill-shelters and into loving foster and forever homes, but they work to help fight the pet overpopulation problems with TNR (trap, neuter, release) programs for feral cats. Such a great group of people who will do anything they can to help improve the lives of our animals.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing how many animals they are able to save. They take in animals that would immediately be put down at the kill shelters due to medical issues and help them, giving them their lives back.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not change anything! They are still growing and with the growth with come more funds, more volunteers and more animals.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Nothing. They are there for their volunteers every step of the way and go above and beyond to make you feel like you're part of their family.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Absolutely. I've met great new people and have had the opportunity so far to foster 10 dogs that would otherwise have been killed at the SPCA. They were all pulled at the last possible moment from the SPCA.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

It's a great feeling to save an animals life, and it's just that much better when you know you have the support of such a great, knowledgeable team.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Volunteer & I am a foster for large breed dogs.
