Review for Communities in Schools of Nassau County Inc, Fernandina Beach, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

CIS is an amazing program that reaches out to students who struggle and who often drop out without intervention. It teaches the value of a strong work ethic and organizational/study skills as well as academia. It would be a severe detriment to Nassau County's youth if the program was not allowed to continue.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the lives of students who were changed. Several of my students were in the CIS program, and I witnessed their marked improvement in achievement and attitude.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to run it as effectively as Susan did!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

observing a student realize that he (or she) can actually be successful in school. Improving a child's confidence in himself is worth it all.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exemplary in every way. Their passion toward kids and learning was clearly evident.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the complexion of education in Nassau County. So many more students could succeed if they just had a little help and knew someone cared.

Ways to make it better...

I had been able to work in CIS full-time.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of funding due to our state/nation's current economic crisis and sometimes the lack of volunteers and/or available teachers.

One thing I'd also say is that...

our district, state, and nation MUST somehow provide the means for this program to continue. The lives of our children and our country are at stake - a price too great NOT to pay.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I am a teacher in Nassau County. I was unable to be personally involved on a full-time basis, but since I often stay late at school, I observed the program on a fairly regular basis. I also worked with the full-time CIS teacher-employees as well as the .
