Review for Tyler Type One Diabetes Foundation, Tyler, TX, USA
My son was diagnosed with Type One in 2005. It was a terrifying experience and I had nowhere to go and nobody to talk to. We were referred to UTMB Galveston and the drives down there were very hard on a single mom and newly diagnosed 3 year old. We were so happy when we found Dr. Luis Casas in Tyler in 2008. We were even more excited when he introduced us to Tyler Type One! Even though we had three years experience under our belts this was the first time my son had EVER been around another child with the same disease he had... wow! A whole new attitude was developed... for the first time since his diagnosis, he did not feel alone! What a gift to be able to meet with these people (parents and children) who know how you feel, what you're going through, and open themselves up to share their knowledge and lives with you.
I just remarried and my husband and his two children now attend the meetings and we will be taking the next Diabetes 101 class together so that everyone has a full understanding of how this illness effects everyday life and what can be done to improve it!
We have been blessed to participate with this group of people and I hope that I can help by volunteering with the Tyler Type One organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Just listening to the stories, knowing someone is out there who cares and understands has helped decrease my anxiety. My child being able to see he is not alone with this disease was the best experience ever... it completely changed his life!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
The only change I'd like to see is to have this organization explode into many more offices and locations with people who care as much as the board members of Tyler Type One!
