Review for Hand in Hand Parenting, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Hand in Hand Parenting has contributed useful information to many of my close friends, young parents and to grandparents that I know. When people are struggling with a child not sleeping, or not wanting to sit in a car seat, or being afraid of dogs, Hand in Hand Parenting has an approach for helping people figure out the core of an issues and then come up with ideas about how help with the situation. A great group of teachers offer on line classes, there are many articles on the website and a growing worldwide community of people who share this approach.

Review for Hand in Hand Parenting, San Francisco, CA, USA

As a Board Member for a number of years, I find myself getting more and more excited about the work Hand in Hand Parenting is doing. We continue to hear stories from our customers about the life changing effects of the Parenting by Connection approach.

Many parents of young children find that they feel more patient after learning our approach, and they can set limits without being angry or upset when their children cry and protest. They calmly hold the limit.

Our Certification classes are growing and the word seems to be spreading to more and more communities around the world.

In addition to being on the board, I also teach classes in Parenting by Connection and Building Emotional Understanding. I am currently providing support to a group of Spanish speaking grandmothers who have custody of their grandchildren, and one of the most valuable aspects of our program for these women is the listening time they receive in a focused, respectful and confidential setting. They feel like someone knows the challenges they face, and they feel more connected to each other because the structure allows each person an equal amount of time and attention.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The basic listening tools taught in the Parenting by Connection approach, have made it much easier for me to help people in my family understand some ways to rebuild connection with a child who is "off -track" and showing signs of tension and frustration. "Special Time" and "Playlistening" are two of my favorite tools and I use them frequently when playing with children, and sometime in my work settings.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would get some researchers to help us show evidence about the effectiveness of the tools we teach. We have so many stories, from people in many different settings, circumstances and we think research will show what a profound difference this approach makes in the lives of families. Brain science about what helps children learn and how important it is for them to be able to offload emotional tension is very compatible with our approach.
