I have recently joined the SEF Tri-State N.J. Chapter and have found the experience very rewarding. My first volunteering experience was running the SEF booth in the India day parade. I met a lot of people and was able to share our mission. I found that once people know our mission they readily contibuted towards our goal. For our second event I was more involved and became a core team member for the event. Or was one of the first kind in NJ and we were able to pull it off beautifully. I am very proud to be part of this organization that is focused on such a noble cause.
A great organization led by passionate volunteers to eradicate blindness of the poor in India. 20 hospitals by 2020 - crossed half the distance in less than 10 years! A remarkable achievement in deed! The beauty of the approach by SEF is creating accountability by the recipient hospitals to be self sufficient within 5 years of operation by balancing paying clients with charity effort. A novel charity effort with accountability!

I have witnessed first hand the dedicated service by Sankara Eye Foundation, USA and it's counterapart in Coimbatore. They not only have the vision (20/20 by 2020), but orhganizational ability to flawlessly execute that vision. It can easily be compared to Gates Foundation in terms of its laser like focus in dedicattion and service. With strong support of the volunteers, I can clearly see the day when they will have one hospital in every state and complete a million surgeries in India!
SEF doing a wonderful job by providing the free eye surgeries in India. They have opened new hospitals and facilities, covering wider parts of India. We have a plan to open 20 hospitals by end of 2020. I am proud to be assoicated with SEF.

SEF have the great vision of achieving vision of 20/20 for every person struggling with their blindness in india by year 2020. I have been involved in organizing some of the event for SEF at Detroit, Michigan. It has been quite satisfying to know that you are working for Non Profit Organization which does so many great things. What i like most about SEF, is that they have united the people of all religion, caste and state to one common cause - remove blindness by year 2020. I also feel that they have outstanding management and administrative team who work hard to make sure that every dollar is spent wisely.

Review from CharityNavigator
My husband had recently participated in the SEF's half marathon and I did assist with filling water in the cups for the runners for some time. It was a great experience and felt good at heart to offer such help to the runners and to the organization as well. Kudos to the Organization as well as the people who run it & who devote their time ,energy and money to organize such events, wherein such monetary benefits goes to the poor and the needy. Most of all, we should be proud to be associated with such an organization who helps someone to see the world!!

I spent last summer volunteering for the Sankara Eye hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The experience was beyond what I could have hoped for. I had the opportunity to attend the Gift of Vision camps as well as a Diabetic Retinopathy camp and speak with the villagers. The individual stories that I heard were heart rendering and changed greatly influenced my perspective of rural healthcare. I also had the opportunity to teach a spoken English class for the nurses and vision care technicians who were hired from rural areas. Overall, it was a fabulous experience and I would love to be involved with this organization again.

I came to know this organization SEF through one of my best friend. The main objective of this organization to help and eradicate the eye related issues. I think that this is one of the best service in the world. Vision is primary factor for the humans and this organization is helping for that.
it is a wonderful and successful mission they have started which is giving vision to so many needy of the country
When I joined as Stores Incharge, i satisfied with my work and then promoted as Facility Supervisor from last one year. I am fully satisfied with my work. I got encouragement from my seniors and guidance from our CMO. With the blessings from our beloved MD, I am enthusiasly doing my work and I learned disciplene and honesty in my work.
i came across sankara eye centre two times . it was wonderful example of community eye care.seci one of the best community eye care provider in terms of visual outcome.
My cousins, my parents and my uncle/aunt and my grandparents are all volunteering for the organization- so I did volunteering too.
Accidentally came across Sankara Eye Foundation and learned both the problem of blindness in India with about one fourth of the blind population of the entire world and the solutions SEF is providing through the Sankara Eye Society with an ambitious goal of "Vision 20:20 by Year 2020" to eradicate the curable blindness. I believe we are already on our way to reach our goal with about eight Hospitals and two more underway in drawings and eventually to have at least one Hospital in each State in India and with about one hundred thousand free eye surgeries a year going forward. I am glad to be a minute part of this Organisation with a humongest Goal. All the Volunteers are committed and the Board is forthcoming with the implementation of the Volunteers input and suggestions, however slow it may be but understandably. I am involved with some other not-for-profit organisations but I strongly belive there is no other organisation like SEF/SES comibination both in visualising, planning and implimenting the projects and utilising the resources with a very highly visual daily participation and personal encouragement by the Founder and the (past?) Presidnet (of SEF) Muraliji himself driving the volunteer force with a force and cordinating every aspect with the very highly respectable and Founding Managing Trustee of Sankara Eye Society Dr.Ramaniji at the other end. I feel I am as lucky to have an opportunity to be of some service to those patients through SEF as those beneficiaries of the SEF/SES's services. The business model is very effective and practical and the Management and especially the Volunteers who are the eyes, ears and hands of any successful service organisation are commendable partners and collegues for me. We also believe SEF's administrative overheads are the lowest of any such organisation.
I have been volunteering for a few years- since my family, including my grandchildren have been working towards this cause. I have volunteered in serving food, collecting tickets at events and other event related activities. I also got my sister's operation done at the hospital.
I was a volunteer for Sankara Eye foundation in many events. The SEF team is really dedicated and emotionally attached to the cause. I have also seen the work of sankara eye foundation on the ground. There is no better feeling in the world than to see a letter from the person who received eye sight thanks to your donation.
SEF is one of the most organized non-profits in the South Asian Community I have seen. In addition, each member of the team and volunteers is really passionate about the mission. The reason why they are so successful is that they are making amazing progress on their mission of building eye hospitals in India to give people vision. The leadership is excellent and all events and projects are done with high quality.
Sankara Eye Foundation was started with the intention of gifting vision to many people with visual disability & providing free help to the economic backward class who find it difficult to afford medical failities. This foundation was the dream of many individuals who worked very hard to set it up & today it is running successfully, thanks to the dedicated doctors , other professionals &volunteers;.
though, i have been associated with SECI not for so long but in this short period, it had tought me the meaning of the word 'dedication'. this is not only a philanthropic organisation but it is an organisation where the u came to know how a good team work, done in right spirit can bring change to the lives of the people around.
I recently became a volunteer for Sankara, inspired by the work they do in India. The strength of the volunteer network is really commendable, as they are all driven towards only one thing - 20/20 by 2020.
One of the best NGO for serving the underprivelaged population. The selfless motivation without any basis for caste, creed or region. Working tirelessly for mainting the welfare of the people and givinf the greatest gift of GOD - Vision to all
I have been one of the volunteer for this Non benefit organisation for the past 3 years, which serves for the blind.
SEF has a very clear mission to eradicate curable blindness in India by year 2020. SEF is well run organization built on a strong set of core values, sustained by dedicated volunteers across the country and displays professionalism of the highest calibre in every endeavour.
SEF is a great organization that works toward a great cause. It's been hugely successful and is a huge part of the Indian community here in the Bay Area. I am happy to be a part of such an awesome volunteer group.
It is a great way to help your community, and help your mother country. Not only do you raise awareness and support an important cause, you also enjoy doing it. But, planning events and publicizing them requires time, commitment, and responsibility. This also teaches you how to be a leader.
I have participated with them in one of the events that they were fund raising and was really pleased to see each of the members dedication, and even the artists who has come, were so kind and offering their serices really on serice basis only, when I asked one of them they said, if few hours of ours gives eyes and visiton to someone, then what is the harm, rather it is pleasure of life
Sankara Eye Foundation does an awesome job servicing thousands of people in need. Wish they can get more manpower as well more financial support also
Excellent and a very well run organization with world class volunteers led by Murali (USA Chapter). I have worked with them through KKNC.org for the last 5 years and have done few joint fundraisers, it is gratifying to see the dollars we raised has transformed into a great eye hospital in Bangalore, India. Go SEF! -Soma
Great causes drive great actions and every action taken by the organization is motivated by the cause behind. For me, the Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) is about integrity and the Big Vision that drives it. Its my pleasure and privilege to be part of the organization that is currently helping hundreds of thousands of people and not in a distant future will be helping in hundreds of thousands. I visited an eye camp in India last december and for me that was the turning point. No matter how much literature one reads, there is nothing like the experience of being on the field. Being a volunteer I have made very good friends whom I have come to respect a lot over past several months. The volunteers are from a wide range of background and with varied interests - this makes volunteering very interesting because there is always a different perspective for everything we do. The environment is very supportive that makes it possible for everyone to contribute and at the end of the day the most reasonable opinion wins. I have also began to discover a lot about myself after being associated with SEF. Besides, I have got lot of leadership opportunities and support to drive my ideas that would help the organization. And most importantly, i find everything I do worthwhile as it will eventually help millions to see this beautiful world again.
I have been a volunteer at SEF for 5 years now. It is a very well run organization. I have seen the work it does in India.
SEF is a great organization, dedicated to eradicating blindness in India. It is dedicated in its mission and the volunteers are wonderful!
It was a lot of fun. I got to meet a lot of new people. The organization was very well organized and just amazing.
I have gone to many of the garbas and to two of the sankara walks. The events are pretty organized and the volunteers have been exceptional. Overall Sankara is doing a great job getting the word out about their cause and have done so through successful events.
I have been volunteering for events for the past 5 years or so. It is a great organization, with a great cause- and the organization does great events
Sankara eye foundation has being doing good service for the people who need vision. Support people who are in need of various medical requirements such as bone marrow transplantation and blood donation drive. They have a group of dedicated people who volunteer for the various activities of shankara. It is a great organization helping people in India and USA.
I volunteered with Sankara Eye Foundation for Garba Events, Booths and Fundraiser concerts in Detroit area. I really was inspired by the commitment of the national level volunteers and the enthusiasm is infectious. It is one of my favorite organizations and will support SEf in all ways possible. I work with many organizations. I find that sankara is the best because of continued focus and intensity in delivering RESULTS.
One of the wonderful Non profit organizations I have seen. The professional attitude and commitment shown by the volunteers is worth appreciation, that you cannot find such dedicated people evn in normal profit oriented business organizations. Whenever an event comes up, the people make sure that they work day and NIGHT( most of the time!) to get things done on time. I have enjoyed being one of the team members, though I did not take up the opportunity all the time.
I attended bay area sankara dandiya and am impressed with the efforts made by volunteers organizing the event...this was my first visit to united states form barcelone and they made me feel home (like India).
i knew about this organization.i would like to donate my eye after my death so that some one can see this beautifully world after my death.
I have come across this foundation through friends.I have been amazed by their selfless efforts towards helping people who really cannot forward this treatment.I sincerely hope they can take this a notch further and i look forward to be personally involved in all of their efforts.
Simply great. dedication of staff and volunteers are awesome. need more NPO like this instead depend on government in India.
Working with SEF has shown me the change that can be affected by a group of individuals with a shared vision.
Very committed group of individuals - their actions show their true dedication to a great cause and they have made a true difference to the world!
My experience with Sankara has been a positive one and I am truly grateful to say that I have been apart of this experience. I have learned so much about healthcare and how a proper non-profit charity works.

SEF is a great organization doing exceptional work to help poor visually challenged people in India. I've participated in several fund-raising programs that SEF has held in San Jose and the bay area to help community eye-care hospitals and programs in India. I've very much enjoyed the teamwork, motivation, and camaraderie of the SEF team, and am very impressed by their selfless drive and motivation to contribute positively.

A great institution enabling millions of poor to get the right eye treatments. I am proud to be associated with them.
Sankara Eye Foundation is a great charity organization for noble cause. SEF has a Clear goal that is "Vision 20/20 by 2020". That means by the year 2020, their goal is to construct and operate 20 eye hospitals in India. They had 8 by 2008 and planning to open another two by 2010. That shows teams dedication and execution in acheiving their goals. Well organized and very professional in donor care and event management etc. Pleasure to work with such great a team to eradicate curable blindness in India.
It is always pleasure to attend or participate in any SEF functions. I have volunteered and attended countless SEF functions and always feel great about it. Volunteers are very dedicated and hardworking to the fulfillemnt of the SEF cause. I wish you folks very best to continue to do the great community work.

It was indeed a great exprience to understand concern of those people looking out for light which can expell darkness from their life.
I was involved with SIP(Social Inventory Program)for 60 hours during my first year B.Sc organised by my college. It was an orphanage home where 23 children were being taken care by Sister's and Father's.I spend 2 hours every sunday helping their studies, drawings, atrs and craft and some outdoor activities.I gifted them sweets and chocolates ans also help them with clothing and food whenever possible.Seeing a child smiling is the most precious thing I could ever see.
I really loved the way Sankara is trying to help people and really touched by their theme of 20/20 by 2020. It is really a great way of service. Sankara is really giving opportunities to all the blind people, which I feel is really great because even GOD has not given them the opportunity to see this world. I got involved in their couple of fund raising events in Chicago area. GOD BLESS SANKARA!
While attending UCLA, I participated in and helped out in the SEF iWalk in 2008. I also supported SEF by attending Udit and Aditya Narayan's concert in Los Angeles. My very good friend at UCLA has been a strong supporter of SEF at UCLA and has spread much awareness of this organization to myself and others, and I am truly touched by all the work SEF has done over the years in India.
I enjoy working with like-minded people who are interested in improving quality of life for the less fortunate. This has been an eye-opening experience ...

SEF has a great objective of making India blind free by 2020. I have been donating to SEF and working as volunteer as well in few of the events.
My experience has been excellent. I liked the committed team members and the way all work together to make great things happen.
This is an amazing organisation working towards creating awareness among the rural and urban poor about curable and treatable vision problems. Their understanding of the issue is par excellence. The free treatment and surgeries for the unaffordable is worth mentioning.
I have personally not be involved/volunteered for this organization. But in my opinion any organization doing charity is wonderful. This being an Eye donation organization, I have no words to say. Helping visually impaired people is something people with a great heart would do. I really appreciate the work done by everyone involved with SEF
I have been working with Sankara Eye Foundation, USA for more than 4 years now. I have not seen any charity so honest and efficient as Sankara. Even with my busy schedules I love working for the Sankara who gives greatest of the gifts a blind person will ask for, a Gift Of Vision.
It is great to to do volunteer service at Sankara eye foundation. I feel great to help out the community and for the good cause
It is a genuine organization where they volunteer to help needy people. I am pretty much impressed with their dedication to serve the society.
Great job of lightening the lives of many people with their eye hospitals in India. It is boon for the poor people of India.
... committed to the core. ... the way it involves its members and not helps the community but also the holistic development of the individual.
Volunteered for this organisation when I was in high school and Sankara Eye foundation is doing a superb service to India.
We are a group of volunteers who work for NGO. With our good luck, we had an opportunity to work closely with this renowned HOSPITAL. We have engaged ourselves with the kids by inviting them to our organization and giving them the feel of THE HOSPITAL. The kids are very innovative and full of zeal. I am sure sANKARA has gone a great deal by making the kids what they are today. The NGO is very focussed and active in working for the less privileged. I am sure they are making a big difference to the society.
Attended their eye bank inauguration.decided to help them out.went thro their process.Auwsome way of running the show. Also went for a few places where the eyes were removed after the death of a person. Neat & very professional
For the past four moths I am working as Human Resource at Sankara Eye Hospital, Shimoga. I am happy to work in this service institution and it gives me total satisfaction and fulfillment. This institution gives plesure in working more and more. It inspires to serve others who are in need.
A organisation with a noble vision of providing eyesight to those who are not priveleged . Starting from Coimbatore in India today with 8 eight hospitals located at various states across India. The words of satisfaction of the people who have been here speaks about the dedication and sincerity of people involved.
1/5th of the World's Blind Population live in India and about 4 million is being added every year. Eighty three percent of the visually impaired in India live in the rural areas in conditions of abject poverty which are only made worse by blindness. So there was an urgent need to have a programme for eradication of curable and preventable Blindness in which Sankara Eye Foundation USA is playing a very Big role.At Sankara Eye Hospital Mogar Anand has atarget to do 25000 Gift of Vision Surgeries every year and during the last 12months since inauguration have done 134 numbers of Rural Outreach Camps in which 19413 patients were attended and 5976 nos were brought to the base Hospital and 5372 nos were undergone surgeries.Under the Rainbow programme the Hospital has arranged screening of 2200 school students through their teachers out of which 79 students had refractive errors, Cataract and Squint problems. They were spectacles. 8 of these students were operated by the Hospital.
I have known the people behing the Shankara Eye Foundation, in India and always been inspired by their committment and dedication to work for the marginalised towards eradicating curable blindness. It is their passion towards the cause that has translated into vision for millions. I wish them all the best in their efforts and pledge continued support to Shankara Eye Foundation. Way to go!
SEF has been best organization and al;l the volunteers are amazing and very dedicated. It is always our pleasure to work with SEF.
These guys are the "Bono" for solving eye related problems that millions of India's poor are facing. What they have accomplished in the last few years is truly impressive -- considering that all the founders come from pretty modest beginnings, and did not really have a person like "Bono" furthering their cause. The hospitals that they have set up has basically helped thousands of blind poverty stricken people get their basic right of vision restored to them. This is a phenomenal organization, and I am humbled by their efforts and accomplishments.
SEF & the SEF community are an amazing organization dedicated to providing the greatest gift of life, the gift of vision to the deserving and needy through their unconditional services. Having been a volunteer for SEF I have seen the organization grow and expand, reaching out not only to the adults but also youths of the Indian community which I believe is essential. It is truly one of the best charitable organizations I have been involved with amongst the many that I am a part of it because its focus is only on its goal, to eradicate blindness in India, 20/20, and I hope it is met!
Iam a volunteer of Sankara from the inception.I have seen the growth stages and it is amazing to see how it has grown. The discipline, dedication and sincerity of all the members had resulted in this excellent growth.
Wönderful and dynamic organization. Passion driven towards the cause. In the last 10 years they have made a huge impact in helping to eradicate curable blindness in India (5 states)
Had good friendly environment between volunteers. They are like a family. Meeting at one of the houses and plan for volunteer work.
I've been volunteering for SEF from 2005. SEF is an amzing organization to work on curable blindness by intiating community wide programs in India. I visited one of their hospitals in Gugntur and impressed with the work they are doing.
I've personally been to an eye camp conducted by Sankara in India, and was awestruck by the dedication of the doctors and nurses, and also the extreme professionalism and immaculate care they provide. SEF in the US has done yeomen service spearheading the movement in India and in the explosive growth of free eye surgeries and replication of the success of the Sankara Eye Hospitals all over India to achieve their lofty goal of Vision 20/20 by 2020 to eradicate curable blindness in India by caring for the poor and downtrodden. Giving the gift of vision can increase the quality of life of someone several folds, especially a poor person who is living hand-to-mouth.
I like volunteering knowing that someone is getting help. And Sankara's events are great fun -- from walkathons to dandias.
I have been a volunteer with Sankara Eye Foundation for the past several years. I am honored to be associated with this organization. Sankara Eye Foundation has conducted a number of free eye surgeries and operations in the various Eye Hospitals in India.I have visited Sankara Eye Hospital in Guntur Andhra Pradesh a few years ago and was very very happy to see the wonderful work carried out by the Hospital staff. Eradicating curable Blindness by the year 2020 - Vision 20/20 by 2020 is a goal I believe we all should try to achieve.
I have been involved with this organization for several years and think it is amazing. When i visited the hospital i was amazing at the quality of care the patients had received.
My volunteer experience really gave me satisfaction to my soul. People who lost their eyes only know the precious value of this organization. I feel good about volunteering this organization. SEF should do for ever and helping the needy people.
This is a great organization that instills a great amount of care and compassion within those who greatly need affordable medical services in eye care. Organizations embodies how every penny earned is put to use to better the lives of others.
I love this charity because I know exactly where my money is going and that everyone who works on behalf of this organization is extremely motivated and believe in their cause.
I am a volunteer with an NGO called Samarthanam helping visually challenged children with their education. I truly understand the gift of sight for each human being. During this period Sankara eye foundation visited the NGO and carried out eye camps and helped out to the maximum. I think they are doing a great job.
I have been volunteering for a long time. Volunteers involve themselves with great passion and patrons' needs are taken care with utmost attention.
Sankara Eye Foundation USA has been fantastic in its service and commitment. All volunteers have been extremely friendly and helpful with a keen sense to bring about a change in society.
It is wonderful experience to participate in the programs of the Sankara Eye care institution. It is immencely satisfying to see thousnads of rural poor who go back after the surgery. It is heartening to listen to many old ladies whi pour out their mind in apprecfiation of the help thay receive from this hospital.
Sankara Eye Foundation is a very well organized nonprofit organization. They have very enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers and their events are very organized and run quite efficiently.
I was associated with SECI India, the Indian arm of SEF, USA and learnt a lot about eye care scenario in India
I have enjoyed working with Sankara. It has been a pleasure to watch them help millions of people over the past few years. I have gone and seen a hospital and it is quite a marvelous thing that they are doing for those people.
Sankara is a wonderful organization to be associated with. There is tremendous dedication and pride in the group. Imagine an event of 4000 plus people being managed by a group of ~100 volunteers and a security detail of 7 people. No issues; no crowd management problems; everything ran like clockwork. I volunteered because I was impressed with their efficiency, dedication and their ability to get results
SEF is an outstanding organization with a focused drive to eradicate curable blindness in India. I have been happy to support SEF directly through my donations as well as volunteer efforts for various events over the last 5+yrs. I have worked with a very dedicated team of individuals who go out of their way to make events successful with contributors/participants feeling great about their contributions to the SEF cause.
I find the Sankara Eye Foundation a wonderful organization to donate my time and money for. One thing in particular that attracted me was the fact that they have specific, attainable goals, such as the newest vision hospital they hope to open. Their fund raising events are a lot of fun, too.
Have been volunteering for SEF since Jul '07. This organization sets high targets for itself and achieves them by empowering its selfless and tireless volunteers. It is a joy with a sense of immense satisfaction to volunteer for such a great cause.
It is one of the great non profit organizations i have worked with.Highly dedicated and friendly volunteers working towards a good cause and common goal.

Have been a donor, volunteer and patron of Sankara eye foundation since 2001. Listening to Dr.Ramani in the SFO bayarea left me inspired like never before. Dr.Ramani and chairman, Murali emancipate the true spirit of volunteerism and gratitude that is genuinely uplifting and provide true meaning to the spirit of service. It's no wonder that SEF has scaled to 100000 FREE surgeries across 8 hospitals. SEF should extend their vision from 20/20 to 50/2050 as the world needs such organization and not just India. Proud of my association with SEF over the years. GO SEF!!!
I help with their charity runs. I am pretty tired by the end but I always feel better when I know it is going to a good cause.
They seem to genuinely care for the eye complications that people have with dedication and perseverance. All the donation made is linked to a recipient and the recipients name is disclosed to the donor. This ensures that a donors effort is not wasted.
My experience was excellent with volunteering with sef- the commitment and love for this org is amazing. The number of people who contribute is huge and all of them do it with the good thought of helping someone in need
I got involved with Sankara few years ago initially to raise funds for Guntur hospital. But since then I have been helping with many fund raising events. It has been a great pleasure to spend few hours volunteering to know that we are making a difference in someone's life in India, especially the poor ones.
hi, my family has been actively invovled with sankara eye foundation they have been really helping the blind a lot i would like to congratulate them on their progress
SEF is one of the professionally managed NGO I have ever seen. Was pulled into SEF by one of my good friend a year back and I regret not being a part of it for so long. Started as a donor but slowly got involved in their vision which in now spreading it wings all over the country. Way to go SEF. I am proud to be a part of this organization.
This is a wonderful and well-organized foundation! The focus and goals of this organization are outstanding and it has been very successful. Its goals for curable blindness are focused and clear. An amazing foundation for an important and serious cause!
I volunteered during the Dandiya event to promote ticket sales. It is a very energetic organization with a very clear organizational focus on the causes.
I was introduced to the Sankara Eye Foundation through a good friend. While I have been a part for only a short time, I have found them to be an excellent organization promoting a very noble cause that makes a difference to many lives!
I have volunteered with Sankara Eye Foundation a number of times and have been very impressed with their work each time. They have been working diligently towards their goal of Vision 20/20 by the Year 2020. This is a wonderful organization and I am looking forward to volunteering with SEF in the future.
I was volunteer and had wonderful experience with all the crea and get to know about SEF very clearly and made me ti stick to this for ever. Thank for the oppertunity.
I have been a volunteer with SEF for a couple of years now and I am delighted to tell my story with this organization. I have volunteered for SEF at various events, carried its banner, given out literature and educated people about curable eye blindness in India. And every little thing I did for SEF, I felt a pride surge in me..because it was for such a good cause, a noble cause and a cause that I, along with the thousands of selfless SEF volunteers, truly believe in: That we can eradicate curable eye blindness in India. I also take pride in the fact that SEF has made great strides and had tremendous impact to help the needy in India through its hospitals and mobile clinics. I hope to play a continuing role in this mission in every little way I can.
I was a volunteer to teach those interested in Indian traditional dance for a cultural fundraiser that Sankara held. It was amazing to see how many people came out to support the event and every year it is very well run.
I am one of the volunteer to SEF. I belive Sankara doing a exelent work with clear objective/goals. Sanakara has dedicated volunteer in India and overseas. Their hospitals in India have high tech equipments, good facilities and dedicated poor people who cannot afford costly treatment. Go SEF go.
Sankara has existed for the majority of my life. Though I may not remember exactly how it all started in 1998 (I was only four years old), it constitutes an important part of the best memories and experiences in my life so far; volunteers dropping in all the time, going to Friday meetings with great food, attending or participating in exciting events (music shows, walkathons, dandias, etc.), making great friends among the volunteers, and forming a large, loving family all come to mind. Through all this time, I have seen the dedication, determination, and grand vision of this charity firsthand. The volunteers' hard work has led to the exponential growth and widespread success of Sankara - from one hospital and 8,000 free eye surgeries in 1998 to eight hospitals and 100,000 planned free eye surgeries today. I am glad to be able to say that I am involved in such a great organization, and I hope to be so for the rest of my life.
Through Sankara I have been able to reach out to hundreds of blind people in rural India and grant them vision.
SEF has a very structured and methodical approach for a non profit organization. The goal of replicating its success in one place to many other parts of the country is unique and sensible approach to achieve its mission : vision 20/20 by 2020. Also the approach to being self sufficient by having paid patients pay for poor patients is novel.
I have volunteered for Sankara Eye Foundation for about six months and the experience had been amazing.I met so many other dedicated volunteers and made many friends.SEF made me feel very good about myself.SEF is doing very good job of raising funds for free eye surgeries in India.I feel proud to be a part of such a big organization.
It has been a nice experience volunteering for SEF..I volunteer mostly on the day of the event and most of the time I've noticed that the other volunteers are very professional and thoroguh with their work..In general, I have a positive impression about the work done by SEF and I look forward to continue volunteering as time permits.
I help out Sankara in organzing events and feel so proud to be a part of this team! I know that the proceeds are truly going directly to help people and that makes me feel very motivated to help Sankara even more.
Learned abt the Sankara Eye foundation from afriend and joined the facebook group. have been really amazed and impressed by the work and contribution they are making to the ppl in india. i have attended few of their ceremonies and concerts. SEF has been one of the best eye care foundation in the world. Being a student of optometry i try to help/join in this mission and help give sight to the ppl in india by donation and volunteering.
I attended the SEF Dandiya night and helped out at one of the volunteer booths. I enjoyed the experience of having fun and contributing towards a good cause at the same time.
Incrediblly bold mission and an equally motivated group of volunteers make SEF my charity of choice. I was event coordinator for an SEF-hosted concert at UCLA in 2007. Was totally blown away by how well organized the SEF board/mgmt team is. Am hoping to re-engage with this volunteer community really soon now that I'm headed to the West Coast again.
Been involved with SEF for 7 years. Help setup booth, conduct events. Speak to donars and explain the cause and different options available to help the visually handicapped.
really lives upto the expectations. Love working here. Gives visions to lot of people. Has a great cause. Deserves a five star rating and better.
I've been a volunteer of Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 8 years. SEF is like family to me. The dedication of the volunteers and the board towards the cause are exemplary. I am proud to be a part of the Sankara Family.
Nothing is more basic than vision and SEF provides that to the needy. What more can one ask for !! The noble cause, organizational structure, accountability, immaculate functioning of the hospitals providing top notch care and enthusiasm and utmost dedication of one of founders Murali and his family are what attracted me to join SEF.Truly inspiring! I am always amazed at how energetic the volunteers are, how well the fund-raising events are organized and most importantly, huge, positive and IMMEDIATE impact on thousands of under-privileged people. The volunteers are the life and soul of SEF. It is truly a rewarding and fulfilling feeling to be part of SEF. SEF is a completely volunteer driven and almost the entire funds raised is used for providing Vision to poor and needy in India. All volunteers are encouraged to take charge and new ideas are embraced. The working of the organization is totally transparent and no room for ego's. It is an humbling experience and helps to build your own personality while doing service. We are marching very strongly and are looking to eradicate curable blindness in India by year 2020 and achieve VISION 20/20 BY 2020.
I have been involved with Sankara Eye Foundation on and off since high school when a friend and fellow volunteer introduced me to it. Over the years, I have seen this foundation get bigger and stronger with its vision 20/20 campaign. It has set up numerous hospitals, performed countless surgeries, and has given so many the gift of vision. And the greatest part about the foundation is that they have gone to poor villages, where many would never go, so that each individual whom they help there may be able to live their life a little more independently. SEF's gift of vision is comprable to the gift of life for all those that they have helped!
It has a been an awesome experience. This non profit is doing great work, helping people back home in India.
I saw an ad for this fondation and was really motivated to help such a worthy cause- eyesight for the curable. My first meeting made me feela t ease. The people are friendly unassuming and young. So its not like an organization that interests people who have nothing better to do People are giving of their time because the cause is so worthwhile!!
I really enjoying and feel very proud to be assosiated with an organization like this which does noble service. Me and my husband visited the hospitel in Coimbatore and were very impressed. The hospital is extremely clean. The patients are treated with care and respect. Hats of to Dr.Ramani and family. The whole family does service there. The canteen is so good. The people who cannot afford even a single penny are treated free. Overall I can say it is a TEMPLE. For those who can afford little are chrged very less. The charges collected from the poeple who can afford are again used for the needy. The beds are so neat. Even though there are 100ds of people. It is functioning very quietly with dicipline. One great thing, whether the rich or the poor all are treated equally. There are many surgeries taking place at a time.Very good doctors nurses and staffs. Everybody is sincere. Recently I had very interesting experience when I was sitting in India day booth in Detroit MI.Small kids from the age of 7 and 10 wanted to volunteer. They gave their names and phone number and very very excited. My dance kids were helping us.They also sold the jewellry and got good donations. Recently when we set ups a booth 2hrs from our place one of my friends daughter who is 14 came all the way with her father to volunteer. She was so happy to know aout SEF and what they do. I thank God to introduce MR.Murali from whom we came to know about SEF USA.
Working with SEF has been an eye opening experience. Run by very honest, ethical and hardworking team. Will continue volunteering and supporting this cause.
I had a great time at the Sankara Eye Foundation event. The music was great, and the volunteers were very helpful. Great Event!
I have had a wonderful experience helping out. This is a organization where people who run it are dedicated, honest and very hard working.
I helped SEF organize a musical event in NJ. SEF team is a very dedicated team, helped me along the way in making sure that the event went well.
Loved being a volunteer for SEF. Got to meet a lot of people; got the opportunity to serve while having fun.
the non-profit organizations like yours are really boon for the betterment of the society. Today whenever the government machinery fail, these nonprofit organizations take initiative and step out to help peoples in need and that too without any personal monitory profits. Hats off to the organizations like yours...
Sankara Eye Foundation is a great organization i am very lucky to be associated with.. Sankara Eye Foundation does a pretty good job in conducting operations to blind people all over India and in the Sankara Eye Hospitals spread all over India.
- Working with a very passionate group of individuals who all work towards doing a wonderful thing for people, by giving them an opportunity to see our world. - tirelessly, selflessly and generously give their energy, time, and strength to a noble cause. - vision of building a hospital in every state of India to serve the poor and needy and give them a gift of vision, there is nothing more satisfying than enabling this to happen. - a fabulous vision, wonderful people, and above all giving vision.
I became SEF volunteer for less then a year and found this organization is really doing a great job and for a noble cause of gifting vision. Moreover the organization itself have a clear vision on how to go about it. Their project plans are clearly laid out for next two years with clarity, where the raised money will go and all that at bare minimum administrative costs. Moreover it has a great team of vcolunteers who are so dedicated to the cause, it was great to be part of SEF team.
My experience with SEF has be awesome. This is a kind, thoughtful group of people who come together every week to make their lives meaningful and help those in need in India. As someone who was feeling lost after migrating to the US, volunteering with SEF established the sense of family and unity for me. My friday's were spent in a meaningful way sharing ideas and potluck dinners. I feel very fortunate to be part of this group. I have made long lasting meaningful connections through this organization. The genuiness of this cause resonates with every person's need to do something big for the world and help others overcome their hardships. A big strength of SEF is the quality of people it attracts and the environment SEF provides for everyone to be their genuine self. This is evident during event organizations and meetings. I have been the event co-ordinator for Roshni Hindutani and Dandia events. Clear leaderships are established early in the event organizing and this helps put up an organized event for the patrons and donors. Another common strength is the mentoring provided by the members of SEF to each other. As an MBA student I found fellow MBA grads in this org who helped me with valuable advice, books and course information (Amit Patel, Bina Patel, Girish, Snehal). I have a degree in business with a leadership concentration. I got ample opportunities to learn leadership through SEF and I now mentor other volunteers in their MBA program (Neha Desai)
I volunteered for the iWalk 2007. Everyweek we would have planning meetings. The first very meeting I attended all the other volunteers made me feel like part the group. The meetings are scheduled on Friday evenings. It's a Pot-Luck planning party. Each one brings a dish. The meeting is conducted in a professional manner. Each person gets a chance to express their opinions and everyone is encouraged to take up a task or two. New comers are helped along by the experienced volunteers. I have enjoyed my involvement in SEF.
"Sarvedriyam Nayanam Pradhanam" is an age old Sanskrit saying. One cannot fathom the darkness of not having eyes or right vision to see the beautiful around us. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, true in many ways. As poets say, people can see thru their hearts as well, so please see and feel with your hearts the worls of darness one without eyes has to go thru. It is very painful. But, THERE IS HOPE, and WE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A CHANGE through SEF. This is one of the reasons, I volunteer and donate to the cause of SEF...SEF is a great organization working for a noble cause.
Sankara has been a wonderful organization. The dedication amongst volunteers and sincerity is extremely high. Sankara treats their donors with a great deal of respect. Sankara is tightly run by excellent leadership. Sankara's growth has been phenomenal, they are on track to edadicate curable blindness by 2020
Excellant. This organization is one of the best. For a very small donation, a person can get a great vision of vision.
My self & my son got lazer correction for the eyes for reasonable rate & did a good job. Doctors were kind & careing, staffs are co operative, the premises are kept clean & well maintained. I am pleased to see the institution does a lot of good work. I am impressed to see they go to villages & conduct medical check ups & bring the patients & their relative to coimbatore & treat them & reach them back home, free food for them etc. I would like to see the branches of the same all over India.
I met an older gentleman who had received an eye surgery in India in a hospital managed by Sankara Eye Foundation and was very please to see a SEF booth here. He was looking for an opportunity to mmet somone from Sankara Eye foundation. He picked up a donation from so he can mail a check later.
I have been working with Sankara Eye Foundation for last 5 years. Did couple of fund raisers along with BATA and TANA organizations. Sanakra is team is very professional. Even though I am not officially part of SANKARA, I always feel I am part of SANKARA family.
Incredible enthusiasm and commitment by the volunteers, service providers, and donors. The organization's mission is ambitious, and progress so far has been incredible. SEF deserves to be given all the support we can to help eradicate curable blindness in India.
The organization does amazing work. They have treated so many underprivileged children by providing them with free eye care. I am a US licensed optometrist that does volunteer work with them. Moreover I have been volunteering with the childrens outreach program and it is very gratifying. Helping children get glasses who normally cannot afford them does wonders for that child in school! Vision is the most important sense:)
Sankara eye foundation does a excellent job providing free eye surgery in India. It's like a giving new life to human. All volunteers are dedicated to organization and work for a cause.
I have worked with Sankara for past 9 years. Their dedication towards the curing the blindness is can't be expressed in words. They are very professional in doing good fundraisers. Volunteers are well trained and self motivated in talking to the people to spread the word and very successful in moving so many people to donate the funds. all the funds are well utilized and gave so many people much needed sight. This is one of the best non-profit organization I have ever worked with. I am very happy to be part of it.
I enjoyed working with Sankara team and they are well organized team of A+ class of volunteers. My experience with them was the best.

My experience was very good when I donated as well as volunteered for Sankara. They are very clean on their mission and very communicative. Being a voluntary organization for many years with same momentum and passion is something eevrybody need to learn from Sanakra work force. I wish them all success in curing curable blindness by 2020.
I have been a volunteer for the last 10 years and I have been amazed at the growth of the organization. Having a clear vision and proving consistently that they are marching towards the goal has been the key to success of SEF.
A truely non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating curable blindness in India by 2020. When I was requested to volunteer for this organization 3 years ago, I did not know if I hade enough time and committment.... so I just closed my eyes for 15 seconds and tried to go about my life... At the end of 15 seconds I became a dedicated volunteer and am still volunteering for this noble causee.
I am one of the new volunteer and have been enjoying tremendously. We have a great team of volunteers with one goal in mind, eradicate curable blindness in India. SEF is my extended family and I have been blessed to work with amazing and inspiring people.
Tremendous orgianisation with excellent leadership and vision workig towards a great cause, i think this oprgansation has the ability to make a difference in the lives of many in india.
I volunteered for the first time with Sankara Eye Foundation in October 2009. I have been familiar with the organization for many years and I finally got involved. I loved working with the team in organizing a successful event. Everyone is dedicated and determined to eradicate curable blindness by the Year 20/20.
I have been a proud volunteer for Sankara Eye Foundation on many projects and over last 5 years or so. The team is very organized, dedicated and committed to a good cause. Please do join the organization and help raise money for a good cause.
Great Team to work with and be with. You get a great satisfaction after working with many great volunteers and wellwishers.
Have been associated with Sankara Eye Foundation for less than a year. Can assure all that they provide positive experience through professionalism , positive attitude & dedicated team. This institution allows people from all walks of life to avail specialized eye care at reasonable rates. Their service to the community needs a special mention.
Many of the population ignore preventable eye care either due to ignorance or due to lack of resources. SEF has supported the cause and every year one lakh of the needed Indian Population is benefited from this service.
"Yes we can"..these are the three words which would summarize the efforts and the zeal that Sankara has towards the cause!!
I have known the Sankara Eye Foundation for the past four years and at different points had opportunities to be able to see their work very closely and be a part of it in my own small ways. Sankara Eye Foundation is the example of Best Practice Institutions in India when it comes to Eye Care. The dedication towards the cause, the diligence towards the work, and the honesty of the heart involved makes Sankara and its work an awe inspiring model in India. The outreach strategies and the step involved gives it a feeling of personal care than just a service being provided to those you need. My interest of working with people with visual impairment and disability got strengthened with my experience at Sankara. The feeling that even a small effort is a contribution makes a big difference was my biggest learning from my experience with Sankara.
I volunteered with Sankara Eye Foundation actively when I was still in school. The volunteers are hands down some of the most genuine folks out there with hearts of gold. To me, Sankara Eye Foundation has always been far more than a volunteer organization, it's a family. Wonderful cause, wonderful people, go 20-20!
I like the noble cause of Sankara to eradicate curable blindness in India by having an eye hospital in every state by 2020. I know the paing of blindness and would be happy to be a part of this campaign
I had wonderful experience with Sankara Eye Foundation. I donated money on several ocasions. Raised funds for Guntur hospital. Great group of volunteers. Great people coordinating various efforts of the organization. Dedication and commitment from the management of the foundation. It's always fun to be at SEF booths. It's amazing to be part of this organization which is dedicated to eradicate curable blindess in India. Great job folks!
Me, my parents and my brother have been in this organization for the past 6 years. I have volunteered at numerous events as small as bulk mailing and as big as the annual SEF 1000$ banquet. I have enjoyed my time in SEF so much. It helped me better as a person, especially after visiting one of the hospitals in Guntur 2 summers ago and has even inspired me to start an SEF club in my school this year. Go SEF! :)
Sankara Eye Foundation vision to create replicable and sustainable model of Sankara Eye Hospital and establish one in every state of India with the ultimate objective of acheiving perfect vision for all by the year 2020
I have visited Sankara Eye Care Hospital in Bangalore. They do a phenomenal job in providing eye care to the needy who otherwise have no means of either accessing any medical facility or be able to afford the needed medical care. Majority of the blindness are curable but cannot afford the cure. Sankara volunteers set up eye camps in remote villages, screen the residents, identify people who need care, bus them to the main hospital, treat them, house them until they recover and bus them back. As a result of Sankara work many of these people are able self sustain and earn their living
I volunteer and raise funds for Sankara Eye Foundation. I like Sankara Eye Founndation because they help poor people to get free eye surgeries, clothes and food

I have volunteered and fund raised for Sankara Eye Foundation since I was in second grade. They have truly touched my heart deeply, because of the fact that they basically give blind people a new life. I am always looking forward to Sankara events filled with hope that all of us, together, will raise lots of money for such a wonderful cause.
SEF is exceptional organization with drive to help the underprivileged blind folks in India. It is professionally driven organization with focus on spreading vision to as many people as possible.
I have been a volunteer with SEF for over 5 years now. SEF volunteers are a dedicated and capable bunch that can make miracles happen. That isnt an exaggeration. The energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers is contagious. This makes all of SEF's fundraising events impactful and fun! A terrific groups of people working towards a worthy cause!
SEF is one of the best non-profit organization that I know of. The events generally start on time and the volunteers take great care of the process from registration all the way through the end of the event. I have been through both SEF iWalk and Dandiya events for last four years.
Very professional, hard working people. I have been associated as both volunteer and also donor. And they have treated me well both ways.
I have had the best experience ever....learnt a lot from other dedicated people. Did fund raising during events, participated in booths during events and spread awareness about SEF and our goal of working towards 20/20 by 20/20...
SEF is driven by passion - passion for the cause and passion of the volunteers assist in any which way they can. I've met the sincerest folks who are willing to work tirelessly. Everyone is in it for the goodness that they are bringing to the lives of the needy back home. And I'd be remiss if I did not mention that the culture at SEF is driven right from the top - the founders who started this organization here in the US.
I came into SEF volunteer team thanks to my wife. I have found that this organization has great leadership potential at the headquarters where the founders put in their heart and soul towards the cause. Volunteering for SEF is a learning experience, one gets to meet, interact and work with different types of personalities which can be quite frustrating at times but somehow the cause and the goal to achieve "Vision 2020 by the year 2020" keeps everyone going and the disputes if any get resolved. I feel that the board members don't travel enough to pep up volunteers and make them work harder or create leadership in different cities of the US. Currently SEF-HQ at Bay Area is like an island of leadership, initiative and power. The other chapters lack the drive and enthusiasm that is seen in the HQ. Instead of just conducting conference calls, I believe that someone from the board should travel around the country every quarter and motivate volunteers to do more. This will take the organization closer to its goal. I have not visited any of the hospitals yet so apart from the information in SEF newsletter and media reports I don't know what the SEF India is doing.
I have attended events and volunteered with SEF since it was founded, and the level of coordination and expertise in conducting events has always been far superior than others in the area. The dandia events are an ideal example, with the events growing over the years into an action packed, overflowing gala at one of the biggest venues around.
I have been a Sankara volunteer since it was started by our good friends: Murali & Sasikala family in the Bay Area. I have seen the phenomenal growth in its activities and volunteer base over the years due to the dedication of the founders and reception from the Bay Area population. I then had the opportunity to visit the SES Hospital in Coimbatore, India. I found it to be a model for all hospitals. The facilities/cleanliness/knowledge & courteousness of the staff and the ambiance are exceptional. I saw that all patients irrespective of their financial/social status were treated equally and with utmost respect. I consider SEF to be the greatest Non-profit organization.
This organization performs miracles. It is a wonderful program that allows the volunteers to feel fulfilled and spiritually satisfied with the work they are doing. Every time I have had the opportunity to volunteer I have had a great experience. Every one in the organization is wonderful and really accept you into there group with open arms. It is a vibrant community with constant communication and unimaginable efficiency. I have never seen a group grow so fast and continue to remain so passionate about their ultimate vision, never allowing it to blur no matter what obstacles it faces. I feel honored and proud to be a part of such a magnificent team of people working so hard to help those in need.
Eradicating blindness isn't focus area for many in this world. Thanks to Sankara Eye Foundation which is raising awareness about this very important issue. I started donating to this organization first. I was pleasantly surprised when I made my first $30 donation and after a few days received a letter stating that a particular patient by so and so name was operated upon. Not many organizations follow up on your donations but SEF was different in this aspect and that impressed me lot. I have regularly donated and encouraged friends to donate. In that last 2 years I have also helped the organization in organizing their fund raiser events. It has been a great experience working with such highly motivated people and great friends now.
I have been introduced to this organization by my husband. I feel fortunate to be associated with the noble cause that this organization is following. Helping a poor blind person to see the world is a great act of philanthropy. I have been involved in promoting the group to various visitors that visit SEF's booths in various fairs/events.
I dont think there is a better a gift that you can give to anyone than a gift of vision. This foundation gave vision to more than 100,000 people last year for free. So happy that we have been introduced to this foundation.
I have had great experiences with SEF in the last two years since I have been involved. It is humbling to see the dedication of 1000's of volunteers in this organization. I have personally been involved in a few fund raisers in the past couple of years and have always felt a sense of satisfaction with the work this foundation is doing in India and in the US. It is humbling to see people of all ages and backgrounds come together and join hands to eradicate curable blindness from India. There is great energy amongst SEF volunteers and their sincerity and passion for the cause is obvious from the time, effort and skills they invest to support the organization.
As a long time donor and volunteer for SEF, I love the impact that just $30 can make a permanent life-changing impact on a poor person and the family who is completely unaware that the blindness is curable. I love volunteering my time and getting acquainted with people who are so passionate and motivated to the cause, yet so modest.
what a great oraganisation.. we have seen this foundation growing from a hand full of volunteers to what it is today..... Contrats to all and wishing you well in the coming years!
I have been involved as a volunteer with Sankara for 3 years now. During this time I have come across great volunteers who have selflessly dedicated themselves to the organization. I am proud to be part of such organization.
My family has been involved with this organization for a long time- and I have helped with events. I have also visited the hospital in India and have seen firsthand- what difference these people can make.
I have personally participated in volunteering in many ways- including bulk mail, helping with events, stamps and other tasks. I have also been part of their walkathon. This is a fantastic organization
Been volunteering for SEF for five years. Helped with various fund raising activities including banquets, walkathons, mailing campaigns and other events.
I was a volunteer and helped with events. This is a great non profit with a great set of dedicated volunteers and great value. It sticks to strict ethical values while providing a helping hand to the deserving poor
it feels like i've always been a part of the Sankara organisation.in coimbatore, where they are head quartered, sankara is pretty much a household name. their yeoman service is quite commendable. for the past 6 years, i've been involved with this movement thru my boutique "surya". now we support the peadiatric oncology activities of the hospital. am proud to call myself a sankara volunteer.
I have been volunteering for 4 yrs now, great fun and a wonderful learning experience. A great organization and the best volunteers!
I have been volunteering for Sankara for the last 6 years. It was an amazing expierence when you think of the results. This is a great cause, I think vision is the most important thing one can donate. Period. I visited Vijayawad-Guntur hospital and impressed by the work SEF doing after talking to patients. SEF also went to my village which is 90KM away from guntur and did eye camps. That was very important to me by giving somthing back to the community.
Being able to help people with their sight which they can use to realize their full potential and in turn support others is gratifying.
Learnt the art of volunteering from other experienced volunteers.Understood the value of life and the satisfaction when my time helped somebody to see the world as before.
I have been a volunteer with SEF for almost 10 years now. I also visited the hospital in Coimbatore, and its immaculate condition and caring staff were very impressive. It has been a very gratifying experience working for this cause.
SEF has a great set of dedicated volunteers who are a lot of fun to work with. Working for a great cause with amazing people makes volunteering a lot of fun.
I have never been apart of such a dedicated and righteous organization! Every penny of donations is accounted for and the help they provide for the blind and visually disabled in India is phenomenal. SEF is a family and holds true family values such as unity and trust in each other.
I am a donor and a volunteer for Shankara for the past one year and I am really happy and proud to be part of the Shankara family. This is no ordinary charity organization. It is well structured, has a steady flow of funds and they have a clear vision on what they want to achieve. Hats off to the guys running the show. Their dedication and sacrifices are as good as any one else and I wish them all the success they deserve.
I used help in during events to cordinate and helping others. Also, i spend time in th booth with other volunteers to bring awareness among people. This gives me great satifaction of volunteering as you see the unfortunate people are getting to see the world. It is worth while spending time. I have been volunteering many organisation, but this is the best satisfaction you get in your mind.
This is one of the best organisation help many many unfortunate people to see the world. It is unexplainable. From India to many other countries have receeived this splendid service. I strongly recommend that this organisation should awarded as the best in the world. Diana Manix
I volunteer for the cause and help making the dream a realitiy. Sankara Eye Foundation is indeed the motivation for all at Sankara Eye Care Institutions, India to acheive beyond imagination.
I have been a SEF Volunteer for quite some time now. I have been associated with other charity organizations but unlike others, nowhere I have seen such a dedication and devotion to the goal like at SEF. The organization is also run very well. Above all, it is for a wonderful and worthy cause.
I have been a sponsor for few years & recently became a volunteer too. Having worked with numerous non-profit organizations & from what I have seen in other places, I can say that SEF one of best non-profit organization I know. The people are passionate, dedicated & really doing this for a great cause.
I have been volunteering for this NGO for 4 years now. This year, during my visit to India, I decided to drop by unannounced at the nearest SEF hospital in ANAND, Gujarat. I was impressed and very happy to find it as per my expectations. All the services to poor and needy were provided as claimed. I saw it personally. I even saw testimonials from people who got treatment there. One very interesting testimonial was about a person (looking for paid treatment options), who was recommended to get the eye-treatment done at this hospital by his maid, who got free treatment at the hospital. Both, he and his maid were really satisfied with the quality of the care.
Sankara has been the best option whenever you feel like doing something for your country. I love the way they manage hospitals all over India and their quality of service is also amazing. I am so happy that they have been doing this successfully for along time and coming up with new hospitals.
Energetic, dedicated and motivated set of volunteers willing to do anything for improving vision among the not so wealthy in India
Sankara Eye Foundation has a noble vision of providing vision to the under privileged and needlessly blind population. The foundation is almost entirely run by enthusiastic volunteers who find time to raise funds through innovative programs.
SEF is an organization that I have had the privilege to be associated with from its inception. The noble cause of preventing curable blindness has helped many of the under privileged population of India see a bright future for themselves, thus driving the country to a promising tomorrow. As a volunteer and donor, I see that the bold and futuristic steps of this foundation will leave no stone unturned to meet its goal of vision 2020 by the year 2020. My experience at the Sankara Hospital at Coimbatore when I took my aunt for her surgery was proof of the wonderful treatment extended to all its patients. SEF values its volunteers greatly. SEF’s events speak of the commitment, passion and dedication of each and every volunteer. Every donation made is given meticulous follow up which inspires the donor to take up this organization as a charity of their choice. It is highly satisfying to work for this cause, be associated with Sankara Eye Foundation and vote for them as a Charity that deserves my commendation as a an organization working towards service of humanity.
A well oiled machine. I am extremely happy to have been a part of the Sankara family for the last 6 years. Every volunteer is given an equal opportunity to create a difference. You are encouraged to take on leadership roles. Kudos to the board members and Mr. Murali to keep up the spirit and culture of the organization intact even though the organization has grown rapidly over the last few years.
There are n number of non-profit organizations around the world fighting for a cause without proper direction and goal. But,SANKARA EYE FOUNDATION knows what to do and how to achieve it by proper planning and towards the desired GOAL
I first came across SEF when I attended a music concert that they had co-sponsored for raising funds. At that point in time, I was more keen on the concert and knew precious little about the sponsors. However the brief 10 minute presentation that was organized during the intermission touched a chord in me. The first thing that struck me was the classy and dignified way in which they spelt out the mission of the foundation and requested financial and other assistance - a far cry from some of the other fund raisers where members of the audience where virtually shamed into commiting donations. I have maintained an interest in SEF ever since and have tried to help out in whatever way possible. I have even got my family interested in the SEF and my son has been driving down from UCLA every weekend over the past month or so to assist as a volunteer in some of their events - and he did this based on what he saw and experienced at the SEF office. He was struck by the camaraderie and the joyful spirit that pervaded the whole organization - people who really enjoyed what they were doing while contributing to a noble cause
The thought that there are friends who are sitting 10000 miles away but wiling to help to eardicate curable blindness in India send me goos pimples. The synergy between Sankara Eye Care Institutions, India and Sankara Eye Foundation, USA can tell the world that anything is possible provided there is willingness in the minds of the people. Being a volunteer myself, I enjoy every moment of my time with Sankara.
I have been with SEF since 2005 and what a privilege it has been to be part of this fantastic organization. SEF has become my second family that is overflowing with love and respect for everyone. The most rewarding experience is knowing we are able to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
I first came to know about Sankara Eye Foundation as a student. I have been truly amazed at the zeal and the passion of this organisation in trying to make VISION 2020 a reality. I have had various opportunities of working closely with members of the Sankara family and their dedication is remarkable. No project is begun without complete research and understanding its feasibility and its impact on the population. Thus its not only about "giving" or "providing" but also about long term impacts and how health care can be brought to the doorsteps of the people who need it the most.
For the Cause of Humanity service, SEF is one of the best to work with. The organization allows each volunteer to select the work the volunteer can perform and each member provides necessary function to complete the task. This year Murali Ji, of SEF ask to see if we as volunteer would be interested in taking a part in 15th of August India Day parade with our own float. Once I communicated to Muraliji that with my back ground and business we can produce decoration for the float displaying the Theme for which SEF stands for. Volunteers capable of art and Graphics help create the Graphics. Last minute volunteers came to install and decorate the float. Worked all night to be ready for the Parade. This kind of dedication is unique to SEF.
I had a wonderful time volunteering with this organization and lots of fun as well. The members and the community are people that are likeminded and generous! A great cause that attracts great people :o)
There is no personal ego in the team of volunteers, wheather it may be chairmain, board member or the newbie. Any and all Ideas of improvement are considered, and best one usually goes into action wheather it was proposed by senior member or a rookie.
I am a volunteer with Sanakara Eye Foundation since 2002. After seeing their ad on TV I started as a donor and was very impressed by the unexpected letter I got from them with details of the person who benefited from the donation. Was very gratifing to see how our dollars actually made a difference in someone's life. So decided to visit their office and learn more about the organization. Once I went to the office and met other volunteers I was hooked to Sankara. It is hard to find sich dedicated and unselfish volunteers working so deligently day and night, day after day for a cause. The volunteers of Sankara are the first to work and the last to seek praise. They see only the cause and nothing else. I see the same level of dedication and approachability from the board chairman to the newest volunteers. It is very gratifying to be a part of such an organization.
I have been a donor and a volunteer for Sankara Eye Foundation for past 4 years. It feels great to make a difference in the lives of people and see results of our time & money effectively being used for free surgeries and building new hospitals. I am honored to be part of this organization.
It was awesome experience working with SEF and they are doing tremendous job in eradicating curable blindness in INDIA. Hats off to them.
i used to volunteer on a weekly basis till i got quite busy with kids. it was a great experience. the people were fun to work with. it helps to know that every $30 you raise opens an eye.
This is a great worthy organization. We are so proud to be involved with such an organization. We enjoy every momemnt we are doing something for Sankara foundation. To give someone gift of eye sight is really great. Someone who can see the beautiful world for the first time that experience can not be decsribed in words. Great work!
The people who work along during SEF events are whole heartedly contributing to the cause. I feel content working for this group. I even take my children along. It is difficult to request donations from unknown people, but then realized "asking" is egoless and is difficult to achieve than "giving".
I have enjoyed participating in such a good cause. Via fund raising events, SEf has helped raise thousands of dollars to build eye hospitals and do free eye surgeries.
I am one of the Volunteer of Sankara Eye Foundation, I love to be a part of Sankara as they are helping blind people and building eye Hospital. I am pround to be a part of Sankara Eye Foundation
I have been associated with SEF and its founders since its inception. I have seen it grow by leaps & bounds in the contributions and volunteers strength during this short period. The various innovative events and activities devised by the team of board members and volunteers have attracted a large part of the Bay Area populace to its cause and made it a house hold name in the area. I am very proud to be a part of this movement and wish the organization the very best in achieving its goals to provide the light of sight to the numerous needy in India and around the world!.
Unlike many other non profit organizations I have volunteered at, Sankara Eye Foundation is very grateful for its volunteers and treats everyone with respect. During many events such as the Festival of India, Sankara Eye Foundation not only set up their own booth, they volunteered to help out other organizations and events.
It has been wonderful knowing the Sankara family. SEF is for a good & noble cause, it has helped raise thousands of dollars to build eye hospitals and do free eye surgeries.
I am relatively new volunteer to Sankara, although a participant of many of their event in the past 4 years. They are a devout group of volunteers, who come together at the most needed of times to pull through their events to raise awareness and sponsorship for the eye hospitals in different locations in India. They welcome those who want to volunteer with them warmly, and help you quickly get acquainted with the cause, upcoming activities, and welcome your help wherever and however you can help. Their events are centered about raising awareness through cultural and health aware events, which enable those who attend to reap benefits of being involved in an event for their own well-being as well as those of others. I hope to get the chance to further involve myself with the group and their events and am looking forward to seeing that they achieve their goals of opening hospitals and sustaining services in these hospitals.
This a wonderful organization. Our main goal is to eradicate curable blindness. There are two types of blind people. One category is blind and no medical help can let them see. The other, which is quite curable and millions of blind people belong to this category. SANKARA EYE FOUNDATION IS WORKING HARD DAY AND NIGHT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THESE PEOPLE. We work as a team to achieve our goal "20/20 VISION FOR THE BLIND WHO SUFFER WITH CURABLINDNESS BY 2020" I am proud to be part of such esteemed organization
I have known this organization for about 5 years now. I'm moved by what this organization does for curable blindness. A 70,000 free surgeries per year speaks for this organization's contribution to mankind.
Great organization, dedicated volunteers, noble cause, happy to associate with them. Will continue to volunteer and donate for foreseeable future
My two sons Murali and Sridharan and their Pakistani friend Ahmad, started the Sankara Eye Foundation in 1998. In Tamil there is a saying "Thoonilum iruppar, thurimbilum iruppar", meaning "God is everywhere", similarly SEF is everywhere now. SEF is like a big family and the volunteers are working for their won family. As a senior citizen in the bay area I am quite bored, I eagerly look forward to SEF meetings. I meet volunteers from all over India and we eat various kinds of foods - Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh etc., and am now looking forward to good Punjabi dishes. I feel happy just looking at the volunteers with their smiling faces.

SEF has seen tremendous growth in the last few years that i have been a volunteer. Inspite of that, they are extremely humble and committed to the goal of Vision 2020 by the Year 2020. Kudos to the SEF/SES teams for all their hard-work and dedication. This award will be yet another feather in SEF's cap.
Its nice to work in SEF Organization.I joined in this Organization about 6 years back and been actively helping the community. I really passionate to work and looking forward to meet the Goal of 2020 by the year 2020. Thanks -subhadra
I have been volunteering for SEF for the last 3-4 years. The comaraderie of the group and the unbridled enthusiasm that oozes forth from the leadership and the full-time volunteers just amazed me! The vision 20/20 by 2020 cause is very close to my heart so I will do whatever my busy life permits me to do when it comes to raising money (and even awareness)for this group. Go SEF!
I volunteered in their bulk mailing and other activities- the other volunteers were fantastic and their dedication was outstanding. The cause touches the heart and the difference the organization is able to make is amazing.
It gives me great satisfaction and pride to see Sankara making progress to achieve its goal to eradicate curable blindness in India by 2020. The volunteers are really dedicated to the cause and the service provided in the hospitals is great.
It has been an wonderful experience working for Sankar Eye Fondations's nobel cause in eradicating curable blindness. I enjoyed the company of A+ team of volunteers and feel very fotunate to be part of this great mission!
I went with my daughter to the Coimbatore center and they gave us a tour of the clinic and we had our eyes also checked there. We saw the people who had their cataract operation done there and spoke to their family about their experience. They were really happy about it. I had been to the SEF walkathon in California and it is amazing to see the number of people taking part for a good cause.
From the hand painted display board decorated with stuff from Michaels to the TV Ads for Dandia, SEF has come a long way in 10 years. And it has been a great journey. I have co-ordinated events, designed brochures, posters, banners and designed the SEF newsletter. On the way I have made a lot of connections that helped me professionally in my career and a lot of friends. I have seen results from my donations right in front of me, when the pediatric-opthalmologist Dr. Kavita called me back to let me know the sight has been restored for the little girl called Ramya, whose surgery I sponsored a few days ago. This is a great cause that has made significant change in the quality of life for many people.
This is a wonderful organization in the world. It is dedicated to the society. I am having a very good experience in this organization. CEO of the organization deserves Noble prize. He works very hard. His entire family works for the organization. All the volunteers are very very dedicated. I urge all of you to join this organization and help our effort in eradication of the Blindness.
I have been volunteering for the organization for past 5 years! I am honored to be a part of this organization. Volunteers are great and board gives a free hand to volunteers. It is a very transparent organization.
This organization is a true miracle! And the world is only becoming better because of this dazzling beacon of hope! I've been working with/for SEF for about 2 years and have witnessed how diligently the founders/organizers/volunteers work to bring out nothing but the best.
It has been an extraordinary experience working for Sankar Eye Fondations's nobel cause in eradicating curable blindness. I am truly fotunate to be part of this great mission!
Sankara is indeed an awesome story of providing the needy with our help however little and in any which way possible. I am a great fan and supporter of Sankara as is my family. We like to volunteer and are happy to be a part of this great foundation.
I donate to SEF regularly for eye surgeries, food for patients and to build new hospitals. I also volunteer for their events. What makes me come back again and again to volunteer and donate is their sincere dedication to the great cause (gift of vision) time and again. I wish them the best to grow and achieve success exponentially every year.
This was my first time volunteering for the Shankara Eye Foundation USA and I found it to be a fruitful experience. The aim is noble and at the same time practical. The gift of vision makes a person more independent than any amount of other kind of help, be it cash or kind. People should come forward and help SEF in their own little way to make the dream of eradicating curable blindness in India, a reality.
I joined Sankara Eye Foundation as a volunteer in 2005. Initially I was thinking that this would be a good way to give back to the community. Gradually I got involved more and more and haven’t stopped since 2005. It is a lot of hard work by the volunteers – be it hospital projects, events, awareness campaigns! Each and every thing done meticulously so that every penny of the generous donations and support received from the donors is spent well above their expectations. We - the volunteers, donors, supporters - do it and how! Few of the key highlights of this organization are: its Transparency, Follow-up process – be it with patients or donors, Team building and Team spirit, Volunteers, and most importantly, a very noble cause. All these years, I was thinking that even if this work helps bring difference in life of 1 person, it would be all worth it. And when I visited the Anand, Gujarat SEF hospital in January 2009, I was in awe at looking at the hospital and the numerous patients it was helping and that moment made me feel that all the 4 years and endless long nights of working have come to fruition. It was that one aha moment that I would never forget in my life. Volunteering for SEF has been a life changing experience for me.
SEF is one of the best non-profit organizations I have ever been a part of. The volunteers work with their hearts and minds to eradicate curable blindness in India. I have never been a part of such a dedicated group of people. The energy is contagious and everyone is truly nice and you feel like you are a part of a big family. They make you want to do more and feel a part of the spirit they have created. I only wish I could dedicate more time to be with these fabulous people. Everyone chips in to get the task done regardless of what role they play. Working on the dandiya raas for the past few years and a few other events, I feel truly blessed to be a part of SEF and how good it makes me feel for the cause we are fighting for. A cause that has personal meaning to me.
Great Organization!! They are an inspiration for every Indian. One can help a fellow Indian by this Organization. Good Luck to this Organization.
I have been volunteering for Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 5 years. Being a part of this organization has given me the opportunity to help those in need and bring light to someone's life. It is great to see the results of our volunteering transformed to the state of art eye hospitals and free eye operations. It is truly an honor to be part of this great cause.
SEF is a non-profit organization truly dedicated to eradicating blindess in India. The organization is selfless and every volunteer, including the board members, put in a lot of time and their own money to raising awareness and donations that directly benefit the handicapped people in India. The organization is run with very low overhead and is run round the clock with one goal - eradicate curable blindness by the Year 2020. I would recommend this organization in terms of volunteering and donating. I am both a volunteer and a donor for the past 6 years.
I have been a donor for a number of years and a volunteer for a year. This is a great organization and serves a very noble cause. Blindness leads to loss of livelihood and finanincial independence for numerous poor families in India. This organization addresses the problem in a unique way by offering eye surgeries for US$30.
Great unusual NGO which has done tremendously well to eradicate curable blindness in India. There aim for having state of the art hospitals throughout India by year 2020 is exemplary.
I am impressed by the cause supported by SEF and donated at the first opportunity. I started volunteering for SEF in 2006 and I am impressed with the organization. It is an organization with highly skilled and extremely dedicated volunteers. It is like a family and not like an organization. My wife and our children (10 years old and 6 years old) also volunteer and raise funds for SEF.
I grew up with SEF. As a 10 year old back in 1998, my family's living room served as the headquarters. I used to answer the home phone with, "This is Sankara Eye Foundation". Volunteers used to drop in all the time and if no volunteers showed up on a given day, I remember thinking how empty the house seemed. Those very same volunteers are now like family to me. I have seen volunteers meet, get married, and have children. I have seen--with my own two eyes--the organization slowly grow to where it is today. With SEF's help, almost 100,000 people will have their vision restored this year. From just one hospital in Coimbatore, there are now eight hospitals all over India with plans to keep on expanding. Personally, there have been ups and downs. I have resented SEF for taking so much of my parents' time. Yet seeing first-hand the results every time I visit the hospitals in India, how can I possibly resent this thing that does so much good? I truly believe with all my heart that SEF will achieve its mission:"Vision 20/20 by the year 2020".
What impresses me most about this organization is the sincere dedication of all the volunteers. People put in countless hours and resources into ensuring this organization is successful. The positive energy that the volunteers exude is absolutely amazing. Everyone believes in the mission - Vision 20/20 by the year 2020! I am honored to be a part of such a tremendous cause.
I am volunteering for Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 10 years. Everytime I felt it and do feel it is worth my time, my family time, and efforts - as able to see the continuous success of Sankara Eye Foundation, in building and maintaining the momentum to work or donate towards the great cause of providing vision to hundred of thousands of people - and Sankara Eye Foundation tirelessly continue to march towards ambitious and magnanimous goal of eradicating curable blindness. This is great organization, and proud to be part of great moment in the Indian Non Profit History - both within India and inUS.
I have been a member of Sankara Eye Foundation family of volunteers for last 7 years. these last 7 years have given me more than i supposedly should have given to this charity organization. This a non profit organization with a noble cause to eradicate curable blindness in India but the beauty of this cause is that, it opens our inner eyes and has made me humble. Organization has grown year after year with number of free eye surgeries going from 10K in 1998 to planned 100K in 2009. The life lessons leraned and relationships build here will last with for the rest of my life.
I had been receiving the newsletters of Sankara Eye Foundation for a couple of years and had been aware of the noble nature of their cause of eradicating avoidable blindness. However, it took close interactions with some of their dedicated (devoted, rather) volunteers and office-bearers for me to get involved myself along with my family. With two young kids, my wife and I have very little spare time. However, this is one cause for which we are willing to go the extra mile. If you are looking for a worthy cause to get involved in, please consider donating to SEF and better yet, get involved as a volunteer.
I recently stated volunteering with Sankara Eye Foundation. I attended a Dandia event that was very well organzied and at a large scale that brought families together to celebrate and dance the night away. As we setup booths, it is refreshing to hear from people who stop by the booths and tell us that they have been donors for a while and truly appreciate the work Sankara is doing. I am proud to spend my time working with Sankara to fulfill their vision of Vision 20/20. The volunteers work hard and tirelessly to support Sankara and you can see the enthusiasm and their passion for SEF. Go SEF team!
I have been volunteering and donating to the cause of Sankara Eye Foundation for almost a decade. And after every small contribution we feel great for having supported the cause as we know that the our money/efforts will get spent exactly the way they were intended for. As a volunteer every ounce of my work is appreciated, encouraged. And I know my work goes towards a noble cause.
My wife Visala and I have been volunteering for this great organization since 2002 and we are glad that we have associated with such a well run organization which aims to eradicate curable blindness in India by year 2020, if not sooner. Strength of our organization mainly comes from our dedicated volunteers who works tirelessly towards the noble cause of "Vision 20/20 by 2020". Then our asset is our donors who like what we do and the feedback we provide and continue to support our mission of eradicating curable blindness in India. We always get re-energized going through the case studies of how we are making a difference in the lives of many under privileged people who otherwise couldn't afford to get proper health care. Visala and I, and now our 3 yrs son Siddhartha love to volunteer for SEF in the years to come till we eradicate curable blindness in India.
I've been an active volunteer of SEF for over an year now. I have been very impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers. The fund raising events are organized and conducted with great quality. The true strength of SEF is its volunteers and their commitment to the cause.
I have been with Sankara since 2005. Since then this organization has raised funds to build and operate 3 new Sankara Eye Hospitals in India. They have also raised funds to provide free eye surgeries to the poor in 5 other Sankara Eye Hospitals.
I have been volunteering for Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 4 years and each day I learn something new. The trust I get in this organization is amazing. The leadership qualities they teach us with hands on experience is unmatchable. From the very first day, they trusted my work and for any project we do, the SEF team is behind us. This is the organization where our board members sit down with volunteers and mail newsletters and fill up Prasad bags. There is no hierachy here. I joined SEF when they just took over the Gujarat Hospital Project. It took us three years to have the hospital up and running. But every promise SEF made was fulfilled. The donors who visited our hospital were so impressed, they became repeat donors. This was all achieved without making any fuss. Where else will I find an charity who fulfills every promise they make and keeps the highest level of professionalism? I invite all of you to join this movement and help us achieve VISION 2020 BY 2020.
SEF is a great organization as it is very effective in using the donations to a very valuable cause: enabling the eyesight for poor people and help them sustain their own lives.
Sankara Eye Foundation is a great organization which provides invaluable services to the less privileged. I am a youth volunteer and hope to contribute to this great cause for many years to come. I work at all the events and enjoy it greatly. Vision 20/20 by the year 2020. Lets go SEF!
I have been involved with Sankara Eye Foundation for the past four years. The mission of the organisation is Vision 2020 by the year 2020. The spirit and momnetum of the volunteers is awesome. Afer every event or meeting I always rejuvenated and moved by the energy of the volunteers and feel energised that the organistion's goal will be achieved. I have learnt a lot from the organistion and feel proud to be a part of it
Congratulations to all the NGOs in India and around the world. There are things that the government can do and then there are simply things that independently run organizations with true broad vision and selfless leadership can achieve. Those two define sankara eye foundation. I was watching the shamu show at sea world today and the entire show was designed around one word - BELIEVE !!!' and that's what SEF is all about. We BELIEVE we can eradicate curable blindness. We BELIEVE that we will rally the support that we need for this we BELIEVE that we will getthe dedicated volunteers to achieve this goal. And you better BELIEVE that our beliefs will be true !!
Truely an amazing experience being a volunteer of such a wonderful Non-Profit Organisation. Working for this organisation has brought me closer to my roots (also family and friends) and gave me an opportunity to contribute in lives of those are in more need then me. "lighting a candle in dark not just makes the presence of life felt but also makes one believe in 'Hope' & 'Have Faith', which truely is the defination of being human". Being a part of SEF has given us the ability to spread this light in everyones life. To help those who are visiually handicap is turly an amazing feeling hard to describe in words. Please vote with me for this award winning organisation and drive them to meet their goals "Mission for Vision 20/20".
A truly wonderful experience knowing how our volunteer work translates into huge impact of helping the many rural blind. It is the perfect combination of volunteer dedication, award winning eye care and the driving ambitious goal, that is contributing to the continued success of Sankara
I have volunteered for this great cause for a number of years. What I admire is their dedication, professionalism and results. Naushik Desai
Just visit any of the hospitals and you can immediately see the quality of care. The doctors and staff are top notch. And they are supported by a great group of volunteers.
I have been involved with Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 11-12 years. It's amazing to see how people of different parts of India come together and organize flawlwss fundraiser events as big as 3800 people. It's inspiring to see dedicated volunteers work tirelessly for making the events successful and raise money to eradicate curable blindness in India. I'm proud and honered to be a part of such organiztion. Volunteers love to do more and more we get a big 'family like' feeling
The volunteer give their time unconditionally and are motivated to bring "vision" and eradicate blindness for one of the most vulnerable population (the visually impaired)
I know about this organistion through my wife and impressed with the work they do. I also now volunteer for this noble cause of giving vison to the visually handicapped people of India. The energy and the momentum is really motivating. I know we will achieve the mission of 2020 by the year 2020
My family and I have been voluneering for Sankara Eye Foundation for 9 years now. Its an honour to be part of the Sankara family which is a group of dedicated volunteers working towards a common goal of Vision 20/20 for the less fortunate people of India by 2020
I am youth volunteer and I really think this oragnization is great. I admire the goal that they will eradicate curable blindness in India by the year 2020. The energy and dedication of the volunteers are contagious. In the coming year, I hope to volunteer at the hospital in India and help the cause.
I have been involved with Sankara Eye Foundation for 7 years. Dedicated and always motivated volunteers is an inspiration for me to participate and achieve Vision 20/20 by 2020.
I feel that there is nothing more important after life than the eye sight. And Sankara's vision of directly making hospitals in every state by 2020 will certainly help achieve eyesight to many millions. I had a chance to volunteer with SEF this year for fund raising Dandia event in Santa Clara. An amazing team of experienced people, dedicated volunteers and splendid turn out of patrons made the event very successful. When the cause is noble, the necessary drive and motivation to achieve it follows naturally. Best luck to SEF for 20/20 vision by 2020.
I recently started volunteering for Sankara and I am extremely gratified to see the persistence ,energy and dedication of the SEF family. It is an organization with a great vision and a mission to eradicate curable blindness in India by 2020. The immense personal satisfaction I am getting to work for such an incredible cause through SEF cannot be described in words. All I can say to them is "Thank You" .
I have been associated with this organization for more than 4 years. The work that organization is doing is really commendable in addition to transparency of its operations and finances. I am sure we will have one hospital in each state of India by 2020 - vision of SEF.
I started volunteering for SEF recently and am inspired by the dedication of the other volunteers. SEF volunteers leave no stone unturned in their efforts to raise funds. Moreover, the fruits of their efforts are visible - the hospitals funded by SEF are doing great service to the nation by giving needy people the gift of vision.
the best. I have been involved with for past 5+ years and enjoyed every single moment of this. My daughter ,9yr old looks forward to volunteer for some of the events. It is kids friendly NPO.
My husband volunteers for SEF and I have been helping out during events. I have met the group that is very active here and I have been more than impressed with their dedication and commitment. Their projects are very well planned out and their team is incredibly enthusiastic about getting work done. In short, they are a wonderful organization to work with.
I have been a volunteer at Sankara Eye Foundation for 6 years now The vision of the organization is Vision 20/20 by the year 2020 This is a humble effort to help the poor people in India who are needlessly blind. Free eye camps are conducted every week end from the Sankara Eye hospitals . The treatments provided is comparable to the best anywhere available in the world The socio economic impact because of restoring eye sight to an individual is vast . Above all - giving the gift of light and color to one who does not have it - is sure the best gift one can give Jai ho Sankara Eye Foundation
SEF has great pool of people working seamlessly together towards a great cause. I started volunteering recently have excellent experience working with them and learning things as well as having fun at the same time. The event was SEF Dandia 2009 in bay area, CA which more than 10000 residents of the area attended over 4 total number of events. These event is one of the best Dandia event in US I have seen and it does double fold work of (1) getting people to know about the great Cause of SEF of providing eye surgery to people in the India who cant afford it otherwise and generating good donations (2) Doing this with style and with a splash of professionalism.... while not missing the fun part which is also essential and motivating to people who donate and volunteer. Volunteer I met at SEF were executives, managers, engineers, owners, employees of bay area tech companies and responsible residents of Bay area and ages of volunteers were all the way from 8-9 years old kids to 60-70 year old seniors. The best thing about SEF is the volunteers (other name given to them is Visonaries and yes they truly are) are very telanted and are always looking for ways to improve the way they contribute to SEF in a very detail oriented manner and also are on the edge of adopting new technology to promote the great cause. After conclusion of the above mentioned event I ended up remembering 30-35 new people's name and knowing them which was great. This was my first experience and I made many friends at the event. I would surely work with SEF in future.
I am with Sankara Eye Foundation since last 9 years and great experience.... Vision is to build 40 eye hospital by year 2020 in each and every state of india These hospital provide FREE treatment to poor people SEF is one of the best organization, very open and every one has right to speak / debate. We are very fortunate SEF volunteers are very profesional and dedicated to our cause..because of solid team today we have build 8 EYE hospitals in India Another 32 hospitals to go...join us and help us
I am with Sankara Eye Foundation since last 9 years. This is one of the best organization I have ever worked with. I have visited SEH Hospital in India, people they work from their heart not for pay. SEF organization in US is a great team of 700+ members located all across US with vision of 40 eye hospital all across India. What a great way to reach poor people in India who cannot afford food, but they can see due to solid mission. I like to encourage all of you to join and help us to achieve vision 20/20 by year 2020 Email me if you have any questions..ritesh.tandon@gmail.com
Excellent!!- Have been with the organization right from the beginning and I have enjoyed the encounter with every single volunteer - We can experience the beautiful integration of India at this Organization. Worthy cause and it is worth spending your time and energy for this organization. The organization does "walk the talk" and volunteering for the organization is personally, a humble experience of my lifetime.
I've had the privilege of being associated with SEF since 2003! Some of the things that I absolutely love about SEF : ** Clear Vision & Structured Methodical Approach to reach the goal! ** ** Transparency! ** ** Very Low Overhead! ** ** Flat Hierarchy! ** ** Selfless, Dedicated, High Energy Volunteers! Once an SEF Volunteer, Always an SEF Volunteer! Everyone is treated with respect no matter how small/big a task undertaken! Positive Encouragement and Full Faith in any volunteer makes one achieve excellent results! Personally, I consider SEF my extended family! I've had opportunity to work with some amazing and inspiring people! ** ** Last But Not The Least - Lots of FUN! ** Some of SEF's achievements are: 1. From 8,000 FREE Eye Surgeries in 1998, when SEF, USA was founded, to 100,000 Planned FREE Eye Surgeries in 2009. 2. From one Sankara Eye Hospital in Coimbatore to eight Hospitals all over the country. 3 Our next Hospitals are going to be in Punjab and UP. 4. We have a big vision - Vision 20/20 by 2020 - at least one Sankara Eye Hospital per state by 2020. 5. Dedication, Honesty, Integrity, Transparency, Commitment, Hardwork, Determination, Empowerment and belief in our unlimited potential. 6. All our finances are on our website and we have been externally audited for the past few years and all the information is on our website. 7. Our work is being recognized now and we are getting several awards. a. Charity Navigator four star award to SEF, USA for tight fiscal management and controlling overheads. b. SECI (India) received the Best NGO award in the large category in 2008. c. SECI (India) received the FICCI "Health Care Excellence Award" in New Delhi recently. Institutions like Apollo and Forties were shortlisted along with us and we were awarded the best. d. SECI (India) was also a winner of the Diabetic Retinopathy Project award from the Asian Hospital Management Awards.
I have been with Sankara Eye Foundation for a long time as a voulunteer and helped coordinating booths. Sankara Eye Foundation has been working tirelessly to eradicate curable blindness from India by providing free eye care to the millions of poor people. With the team of selfless, dedicated and committed volunters, it will reach the goal of vision 20/20 by year 2020 much earlier.
I am currently a volunteer with Sankara and have been very impressed with the dedication of the volunteers as well as the efficiency with which Sankara works towards its noble vision. Their overhead is very low as well as have a very clear mission, which makes them one of the best non-profits I have worked with.
I got involved with this organization recently. Liked their first program and I love to volunteer and been volunteering for other organizations in my area.
I am a volunteer with Sankara Eye foundation and have been involved for the past 3 years. i am proud to be part of such a noble cause and goal of vision 20/20 by 2020.
I am an SEF volunteer and donor for several years. The amazing dedication and the organizational skills of SEF volunteers is extraordinary. The cause is very inspiring in itself. What is better than giving a gift of vision? Giving that gift to millions of people. Work with SEF to give that gift to millions.
A wonderful organization with some of the most dedicated patrons and volunteers I can imagine. Their goal of achieving "Vision 20/20 by the year 2020" in India (eradicate curable blindness in India by the year 2020), though seemed steep a few years ago, now seems totally feasible. The integrity of the organization, coupled with the dedication to quality service makes it a highly rewarding experience to be part of. Looking forward, the organization needs to (and it is) focus on expanding to other geographies even further that can take them closer to their goal.
Sankara Eye Foundation is probably the only India-focused non-profit that has a well defined mission, backed up by real projects and successful execution. Sankara's volunteers not only work hard but work with passion as well.
Excellent Experience! Though I voluntered long time ago in 2003, I only have great things to write about this org as my wife is an active volunteer!
I am a longtime volunteer and supporter of SEF USA. I started volunteering from the time the organization started in US in 1998. Its been a great experience to be a part of this wonderful organization of honest, motivated and hard working volunteers. I have seen this organization grow from supporting one hospital in India to 8 hospitals performing 100,000 surgeries. Nothing is impossible for this wonderful group with a clear mission of vision 20/20 by the year 2020. It has been a very humbling experience. This is also our extended family far away from home. For my son this is his family. Our parent org in India has also been voted as the NGO with the best rural outreach program. I am glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of this org and hope to see it achieve its goal.
SEF is a wonderful organization which provides the gift of vision to many many people in need. I have volunteered for the SoCal chapter of SEF and my experience volunteering has been inspiring. The organization is very honest and is run by many dedicated volunteers. I hope SEF continues to grow and achieve its goal of 20/20 by 2020.
Sankara Eye Foundation is an amazing organization. I especially appreciate the transperancy and honesty of the organization. My entire family and all my friends have since contributed to Sankara and have seen their money go to good work. It is is PHENOMENAL organization and they really mean it when they say every person matters: patients, volunteers, everyone.
I relocated to North East from Michigan and was looking for an organization where I like to spend my time as a volunteer. I came across Sanakra by chance and I was very impressed by the noble cause of the organization. Sankara's mission of "Vision 20/20 by 2020" is what motivates me to do more for the organization. SEF has Four star on charity navigator and I love to boast about that to the sponsors.
I have been a long time volunteer of this organization. I have always been amazed at the energy of the volunteers, especially with a busy work and family schedule. The events are very meticulously planned with a lot of attention to make sure the attendees get the best service. Above all the focus that the organization has towards the cause is quite motivating.
The cause is great and big. Has an excellent management team and very dedicated and hard working volunteers. The quality of the treatment people get in SEF Hospitals in better than private hospitals (pre and post care treatment).
One of the best non-profit organization and clean organization and very happy and friendly people surroundings. SEF are doing best job in the country and also best support to all needy people. They are the best. It is quite great experience to volunteer with this organization. Thank you.
I have been associated with Sankara Eye Foundation for the last 6 years. I was just a donor to begin with and was then introduced to this organization by a friend. Its been a wonderful journey from then on. The mission (Vision 20/20 by the year 2020) of this organization is so powerful that it makes you want to work hard to achieve this goal. The board members are so motivating and are always open to ideas that can help the organization expand and grow rapidly. Various events and activities are organized to raise funds and are very efficiently managed. 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for a sound fiscal management is a proof of that. The dedication in service to the public and poor is noteworthy. Our partner in India, Sankara Eye Society prove this every day. Its no surprise that they received the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award in the category of "Best Community Driven Healthcare Programme". It gives me immense pleasure to be part of this great organization which has given me more in life than what I have contributed. I'm sure I will continue to be with them for however long I can.
I have been part of this organization for a number of years now volunteering in a number of ways. It is great way to built skills and work with wonderful people from all walks of life. Working closely with the people of the organization has brought us closer personally and Sankara's Goal making it like an extended family experience. I love it.
I have only recently begun to volunteer with Sankara Eye Foundation; however, since my parents are frequent donors, I have long been familiar with Sankara Eye Foundation and its mission. I have always wondered how so many needy people can be helped through the efforts of just one group of people. And here's how: dedicated volunteers willing to put in a sincere effort for a cause they believe in, incredible organization and preparation, and the ability to reach out for the community's support. I am very impressed with the work of Sankara Eye Foundation, and am looking forward to becoming more involved as a volunteer.
I have been associated with Sankara Eye Care Institutions from 1986. I had the privilege to be a part of the Sankara youth wing through which we would visit villages to conduct eye camps every sunday.I have attended more than 150 eye camps personally. I am part of Sankara Eye Foundation USA from 2001 I am proud to be a part of the movement which brings light in the lives of the curable blind. I feel very passionate to put my time and effort for this organisation. I like the detailed orientedness of the organisation the way we plan our events, meetings etc Sankara is being run on the lines of a corporate company
I have been involved with SEF for more than 6 years now. I got to know about the excellent work SEF is doing in India in one of the fund raisers I had attended. SEF operational model and grand vision of Vision 20/20 by the year 2020 greatly attracted me. The fact that they want to give world class eye care to every Indian was just excellent. Their operating model of making hospitals self sufficient to cater to both free patients and paid patients was something very unique and something I believed in. I started volunteering with the event management team within SEF. The leadership team within SEF greatly encourages new volunteers and gave me a lot of opportunities to lead the organization. After participating in some events in varied roles I was given an opportunity to lead one event from start to finish. This was a once in a life time experience where you get to work with all the volunteers of SEF. The team is just great to work with and they rally around the leader and ensure the events are success. One of SEFs greatest assets and strengths are these tireless volunteers who just want to give back something to their motherland. SEF as an organization is absolutely great to be associated with. The leadership team ensures that they are in touch with volunteers and inform them of all the latest developments happening with different projects. The doctors from India make sure they are in touch with the volunteers here and we have face to face meeting with them whenever they visit the US. As volunteer we are given a constant feedback of how our work here is impacting the mission and helping SEF march toward the goal of Vision 20/20 by 2020. Our Chairman Mr. Murali Krishnamurthy is a great teacher and mentor. He is constantly looking at ways of making SEF successful and helps us, volunteers in whatever way possible. He encourages us to take initiatives and never lets an opportunity to give us credit for what we have done how ever small the work may be. He has taught each one of us to always think of the big picture and our final goal in whatever we do with SEF. He is very accessible and is always leading us from the front. The work ethics and work environment at SEF is par excellence. Any activity that is taken up by the volunteers is followed through with at most dedication and precision. Processes are followed to ensure absolute transparency. The volunteers have great fun in whatever they do also. One of the greatest assets I have gained from my association with SEF is the great friends I have made. All in all my association with SEF has been one of the most enriching experience my entire life and I plan to be associated in future to with this great cause in whatever little way I can.
I am proud and happy to be in this organization for more than 15yrs. I have been in this organization since my college days in India. I had volunteered in going to various eye camps conducted by Sankara eye hospital Coimbatore, India. My whole family including my daughter and son who are 8 and 4 are also involved in volunteering for this great organization. What I've enjoyed the most about my experience in this organization is the amount of Dedication, commitment and involvement by all the other volunteers when running the organization. Volunteers work together as one family towards a common cause.
The organization raises funds for a very noble cause - giving vision to the people who are poor & blind. The cause is what attracted me to the organization. The charity is rated 4 star on charity navigator - and as its volunteer one can see why. There is a high level of emphasis on ethics, integrity and accountability both when admitting new members or for sources of money. Financials of the organization are organized with utmost integrity and care. Volunteers work together as one family towards a common cause. While the organization is primarily based in San Jose there is a very active attempt to grow the organization beyond Bay area into Texas, East Coast, LA, Seattle and other areas.
Sankara Eye Foundation is like a huge family. We all work together for the cause of vision 20/20 by the year 2020. SEF regularly conducts various events in and around Bay area (California) and other parts of US too. These events help in raising funds for the organization and publicizing its cause. The events also helps the volunteers to develop team work, team management skills, contacts and exposure to lot of different new things. It gives lot of fun both to us and the public who attend these events. SEF is a well organized organisation where there is equality among all volunteers from the top level management to the fresh young volunteers.
Great organization working with dedication for achieving vision 20/20 by 2020. SEF aim of providing free eye surgeries to the poor has grown over the years and so is the number of hospitals built for free eye care to the poor.
This a is a terrific organization with some committed and honorabale people to offer sevrice. Organizations like this one hold a great promise for USA and India as well as strengthening their relationship. I wish the organization all the best
Excellent, Dedication, Trust and a strong desire to help the unkwown by sharing our good fortune. Every person I have talked to so far who knows about Sankar has nothing but praise for the work done by this organization in giving peoples their life back by helping in correcting their vision so as not to depend upon others and becoming an independent member of society
I volunteered recently for this organization. Few things that I found very impressive were: 1. Dedicated volunteers 2. Honest organization with drive to help the needy 3. Creative ability and enthusiasm to come up with ways to help the needy. 4. Making it all fun to work with them was the best.
I've been a longtime supporter and volunteer at Sankara. This organization has made great stride in terms of service to the needy and expanding it's satisfied donor base in U.S. With a clear mission to eradicate curable blindness in India, Sankara has been building state of the art Eye Hospitals in India, organizing weekly out-reach camps in rural areas and giving the gift of vision to thousands of needlessly blind ppor folks. A must-support organization
