In 2010, I had no insurance, was unemployed after two back surgeries, was living in a homeless shelter and was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism (PE) after an ER trip/IP admit at Chester County Hospital. Dr. Mary provided me outstanding follow-up care, made sure I had the correct medications and dosages and provided a level of care that can only truly be defined as caring and compassionate. She is the doctor of the old days; the person who studied medicine to help people.
I live in FL and am now 5-years out from my first PE, and have recently had another PE. I am working; I have a home; I have insurance. The level of care I have now is substandard, at best, and I've had issues with my insurance company and healthcare providers who seem to be more attentive to profit than patient outcomes. If I still lived in the West Chester, PA, area I would pay CVIM out-of-pocket cash because I'd know that my recovery and healthy future were a priority.
This charity provides medical services on a sliding-fee basis or free of charge based on one's income. They have a full staff of volunteers, most of whom speak Spanish. They treat everyone, regardless of income, social status, etc., with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Causes: Community Clinics, Health, Reproductive Health Care, Reproductive Rights
Mission: CVIM began in 1998 to meet the growing needs of the uninsured working poor residents in our community that earn gross income of 200 percent of the federal poverty level and do not qualify for other insurance programs. As a privately funded community-based non-profit corporation, a small core staff and over 200 licensed volunteer health professionals and lay volunteers come together to deliver services. Our goal is to manage the health of the working poor, keep them healthy, out of the local hospitals and at work.
Results: We treated the medical and dental needs of adults and children during 17,000 patient visits in 2010. This was a 15% increase over last years patient volumes.
Target demographics: Low-income, uninsured adults and children in Chester County, PA.
Programs: Primary medical care, including women's services, cardiology, podiatry, orthopedics, acupunture and more. Comprehenisve prevenative and restorative dental services.
