Mission: The mission of the youth services bureau of huntington county is to provide quality, comprehensive, empowering programs, and services to assist youth and families as they encounter challenges associated with childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood.
Programs: Safe place/host home runaway and homeless youth services are provided through the safe place/host home program. Safe places primary focus is short term crisis intervention while the runaway and homeless youth (basic center for funding host homes) programs service and outreach to address, prevention and serve youth who are or may be at risk of becoming homeless. Host homes are families who provide youth with housing for up to 21 days which allow the staff to link the youth with services. Services my include counseling, conflict mediation, parenting for parents, etc.
project s. O. S students out of school this program is for students who have been suspended, expelled, or approved by special services to participate in an altered school day. Advantages of s. O. S. 1) learn time management and how to reduce stress 2) learn how to deal with peers and family memebers 3) learn to take control of education and succeed 4) discover a safe place to grow and learn 5) meet other young people who are also dealing with similar concerns.
supervised visitation provides a safe environment for visists to take place. The program provides a neutral, non-threatening professional to monitor the visits as orders.
other programs - suicide prevention; teen court; on your way up; conflict mediation; empowering parents; skills for life; tools for life; anger management; network for safe families and foster parent support. All programs provide an environment in which everyone who comes in contact with a youth service bureau staff, volunteer, or board member will be empowered with the tools and confidence to change their own destiny through these programs and services that help fulfill the mission of the agency.
