Mission: The ywca omaha is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the christian faith and sustained by the richness of man's beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the ywca draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The ywca will thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism wherever it exists and by any means necessary.
Programs: Advocacy - advocates are available to talk to about a victim's domestic violence or sexual assault situation and keep the information confidential. An advocate is nonjudgmental about victim situations and experiences. Advocates are professionals who have the training to understand the patterns of domestic violence and sexual assault and can help guide victims through the various systems e. G. Criminal justice, legal, medical, child protection and safety, health and human services. Advocates are first responders for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault at area hospitals and from law enforcement reports and are available 24 hours per day.
crisis management - therapists are on staff to meet the mental health needs of clients in crisis as a result of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Short-term crisis counseling is available for clients including men, women and children who are primary survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault or are secondary survivors such as family and friends of victims.
education, prevention & outreach - the association offers community education and training that includes educational presentations for area schools, businesses, agencies and other community groups and organizations. It also includes providing domestic violence training seminars for clergy, law enforcement, medical professionals and other professionals.
