Mission: This association was established in order to improve the intellectual, moral, spiritual, social and physical condition of both young and old people of the washington heights and inwood communities and to help them develop more freely and fully, so that all may come to have and enjoy a better understanding of our democratic way of life. The association seeks to promote the ideals of american citizenship and judaism by developing and conducting a comprehensive program of guided leisure-time activities, utilizing the skills and methods of group work, informal education and recreation aimed at helping individuals to achieve an affirmative identification with jewish life and a deep appreciation of their responsibilities as citizens of the united states. The association seeks also to give assistance to the needy and to offer help to those in distress of any race, creed or color, and to cooperate with other associations now to hereafter to be formed with like purposes.
Programs: The summer camp had 89 campers in the nursery camp and 635 campers in the inaugural year of our camp twelve trails summer camp. Camp twelve trails combines the best of the day camps of jcc on the hudson, the riverdale ym-ywha and the ym & ywha of washington heights and inwood.
the department of aging operated a full service senior center for adults over the age of 60. The y has over 1,200 registered members and serves about 125 meals per day. The y has over 250 activities (i. E exercise, music, painting and health check ups) per month.
the afterschool program has an enrollment of 170 and has an average of 135 afterschool children per day in the building. It is an inclusive program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
