Mission: The mission of young audiences is to inspire young people and expand their learning through the arts. By integrating the arts into the learning environment, generations of children will thrive by realizing their creative and critical thinking potential.
Programs: Arts for learning lessons:arts for learning (a4l) is a groundbreaking, supplemental educational program designed to improve students' skills in literacy, learning and life through the arts. Young audiences collaborated with a design team from the university of washington to craft this research-based, arts integrated program, which was first conceived in 2005. A4l brings rich arts lessons to students in grades pre-k through 8, while providing them with instruction and practice in strategies for reading comprehension, writing, and learning. In fy17, ya launched a network wide initiative to develop out of school time a4l programs especially geared toward military families. The 3-day professional learning institute took place at ya's dallas affiliate with 11 network affiliates in attendance and launched a network-wide initiative.
young audiences national arts in education leadership institute:young audiences national emerging leadership institute (eli) is a professional development program developed by young audiences to promote exceptional leadership in the field of arts and education. During the four-day institute, ya invites professional arts educators and non-profit leaders to present and host panels on topics such as financial management, fundraising, advocacy, governance, organizational planning, and pr. Special focus is given to peer-to-peer sessions and break-out groups, where participants share their knowledge and receive feedback, a process that helps them to monitor their improvement in areas such as communication, self-awareness, and leadership throughout the year.
ya national network services and support:in fy17, ya national and affiliate organizations continued to implement a network wide plan for improving young audiences' core services and programs throughout the country. In doing so, ya programs have become more student centered, outcome based and measurably affective in order to enhance the creative learning and life skills of all children and youth. In fy17, ya supported the development of a network wide initiative to establish a ya credentialing program for professional teaching artists.
