As a freshman in college, I volunteered for numerous events that took place at Point Park University. Through the OPAL Awards I met Faith and discovered how rewarding Women in Film and Media was. Regardless of my age and my previous film background, Faith told me to send her my very small resume and she would keep me updated on any projects. Before I knew it, I was helping on a PSA about Crisis Center North. What Women in Film and Media do for the younger less experienced generation is beyond words. Not only do they provided inspirational messages, but they also help support people pursuing careers. This organization gave me an opportunity to explore my anticipated career and build my film confidence. By providing hands on experience, I am more passionate about my major (cinema and digital arts) and more aware of the outstanding organizations, like WIFM, that often go unnoticed. I can't begin to thank this organization enough and I am so grateful to have worked with them. It's the greatest feeling to have people believe in you.
Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh is the premiere organization on the East Coast for women in the entertainment industry. Founder, Faith Dickinson had the foresight to anticipate the growing film industry in this region and through WIFM has made it possible for members to connect - both casually and professionally. Hats off to WIFM for the many levels of opportunities it has provided!!!
This organization was a great way to meet other working professionals in the media field and collaborate with others on film projects. The Public Service Announcement (PSA) program was a good learning experience and allowed me to work in roles I would not have done otherwise. (Also, the PSA program benefits organizations in the area that help women and children.
Women in Film and Media, Pittsburgh Chapter, has been a great resource for film students in the Pittsburgh area. We've had guest speakers and panels from the organization at our university, and there have been a tremendous number of volunteer opportunities for both undergraduates and graduates.
I am a well established Off Off Broadway playwright and an award winning screenwriter. Also, I am a member of the Pittsburgh chapter of Women In Film, run by Faith Dickinson. Faith does a wonderful job of creating a venue for both woman and men in creating educational and social opportunities for new and developing writers. Several times a year, Women In Film offers staged readings of new screenplays, classes in screenwriting and social gatherings that bring people together to mingle and discuss future film work. The screenwriting classes focus on format, plot, structure and this summmer, I will be running a workshop on character development and dialogue. Women In Film is a powerful and important learning and social organization. Ms. Dickinson runs it with expertise and always has something new and interesting to present to the film community. Women In Film is a necessary and very valuable organization.
Women In Film and Media has opened doors for me and several of my friends. We volunteered with them several times and were asked what our interests were in the field. Anytime an opportunity came up that we were interested in, we received emails about them directly so we could look into them. I met some great people through this organization and will continue to work with them every chance I get.
