When a pair of bird's defied my efforts to stop them, made a nest on my enclosed back porch, that I am ALWAYS on, inside a 12 pound bag of ant killer... things went sideways, for me, FAST. One of the babies died in the nest and I, disabled and with a broken collar bone, couldn't get the bag from the shelf, down to try to help Moma bird remove the deceased baby. She tried but couldn't open her wings inside the bag! Thank goodness for an especially extraordinary fireman who came to get the bag containing the nest, down from where I placed it before breaking my collar bone! I had 2 outstanding women advising me via phone and text. Laurie, with this amazing organization being 1 of them. Too far from where I am, these women working with me and each other, searched for someone who could come but I had to remove the expired baby that was actually STUCK to a living baby who's leg was now completely backwards from Moma bird pulling and trying to get the dead baby out. The claw stuck through this living baby's elbow!?! Very long and dramatic story that has had me absolutely sick trying to help these 2 living babies but this baby with a backwards leg, being my main concern. Unable to end it's suffering, I witnessed nothing short of a miracle, before my eyes! As this baby grew closer to death, the parents still vigilantly feeding them and alerting me when they needed my help, I had made a new nest inside of a planter pot and it was one event after another. Keeping me in knots! Laurie answered every message no matter what time. She took my hysterical calls and with the other fantastic woman, named Lisa, not actually with this organization... I am thrilled to report that the healthy baby flew away a couple of days ago and this, near death baby with a backwards leg, started to fight! I mean FIGHT! It has a drive, a desire to live! Feedings becoming less, I am sick to think it will now starve as Moma bird tries to urge the baby to get out on it's own but it can't actually FLY, only flap and glide but with only 1 leg, it can't hop out of the pot to learn!? It will surely die with the predators lurking and, ultimately this organization, Laurie, found an experienced lady who was close enough to come and get the baby who was now very active and very loud. I really don't know what I would have done without the help of the 3 amazing heroes that helped me with these birds! And that's exactly what they are, HEROES! I am not an easy person to interact with, being neurologically different, VERY emotional and so connected to all living creatures! The patience and kindness shown to me, irreplaceable and so much more than appreciated! I will never forget this. This baby now has a real chance to live the life it's fighting to have! I learned so much, so fast and I will never take rehabilitators for granted! They are miracle workers that have their hearts ripped out and STILL get out to save those they can! Absolutely contact this organization if you have a need but please, if you can, help them continue to do what they are doing! It's nothing short of amazing! Thank you Laurie! Not only for helping me help these birds but for every soul you touch and fight for! This world is so much better because you are in it!
