Mission: The purpose of wild things unlimited is to increase the effectiveness of wildlife and habitat management in the rocky mountains through two campaigns: 1. Conducting vital wildlife research that is not being accomplished in a comprehensive manner by government agencies or private entities, and 2. Increasing the public's awareness of and participation in natural resource issues through education and outreach programs that provide individuals with a greater connection to the natural world.
Programs: Hub conservation area:this project focuses on identifying wildlife migration corridors in the area between the greater yellowstone ecosystem and the greater glacier park ecosystem with a particular focus on wolverine and lynx movements. We use tracking, remote cameras, and collection of wildlife dna (scats and hairs) to identify species.
rare carnivore surveys: this is a continuation of our original project that seeks to find rare carnivore species, including wolverines, lynx, fishers and pine martens in western montana. The project takes place in winter months and uses snow tracking, remote cameras and collection of wildlife dna samples to identify species.
education: this is an on-going effort to educate the general public about wildlife and to involve the public in helping to locate wildlife species and collect information while people are out recreating. This year consisted of teaching 10 citizen science workshops to teach people how to look for animal sign, and record and then report their sightings on our web site. We also conducted several slide programs around the region in several schools and organizations, teaching people the importance of wildlife and of landscape corridors to allow animals to move around.
educational tours - the educational tour program grew out of a request by supporters to share our knowledge with them. We now offer educational tours in many places in the us as well as australia. We teach about the ecology of each region, the type of wildlife and plant life ams the interactions between them all - including geology of each region. This program has helped people to understand ecology better at home. Miscellaneous other programs
