I have been part of WQW for 10 years! From my first FX experience to giving back as a volunteer and Alumni council member, this is the best organization for combat veterans I have been apart of. As a VA nurse practitioner in primary care, I have the ability to interact with new veterans. I am able to provide those veterans that may benefit from this program and organization. I will continue to be part of this organization, as long as they will have me!.

I am a veteran that first experienced the program as a participant. It came at a time when I had been retired and struggling away from military life and fellow veterans. The fishing is a focus for WQW, but for those who attend, it is more than that. For me it was a weeks worth of mental recordings, that allowed me to play back when I would have rough days. The people who run the program, the volunteers, and the guides, do an outstanding job! I still keep in contact with my guide.
I was able to go back the following year with my wife. The program is always adapting to the needs of the veterans. I was the companion to my wife. They taught her how to fly fish. That was a miracle! It was another great bonding experience between my wife and i, and our bonding with other military couples.
The bottom line is there is no stress or pressure to fish or do other activities. No group or couples sessions. Just the ability to enjoy nature in the best possible way, fly fishing with other wounded veterans. Now, I begin the journey to volunteer for them.

There are so many organizations that have goals of helping veterans have a better life because they (and their families) gave so much for the USA. Warriors & Quiet Waters is one of the few that is focused beyond "support" as they have a purpose...to help Warriors THRIVE.

Coming from a family of veterans of every service, the understanding that Warriors are individuals and assistance can't always be measured in numbers served. WQW is rooted in individuals from Warriors themselves to staff and especially to volunteers.

Results are measured with the help of a university that knows how to do this research. Improvements are always made in a step-by-step fashion by the WQW leadership with a focus on individuals being served. Warriors First and Always!

Warrior and Quiet Waters is an exceptional organization focused on exceptional and lasting results. This organization provides a highly personal approach to serving post-9/11 combat veterans and their spouses to rebuild a path to purpose and learn how to thrive again. I can speak to this through my own personal experience when I was selected to attend a Caregiver program in May 2021. At that time, I was in a tough place trying to navigate the stress of being married to a person with PTSD and a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) while also raising two your daughters and juggling a demanding career. The WQW Caregiver program helped me find clarity in a time of darkness and start back on a path towards peace, meaning and purpose.

I am so dedicated to WQW that I have spent the last 5 years working tirelessly to get my employer, T-Mobile, to ramp up its support for WQW. As an organization that values and promotes our veteran and military spouse employees, T-Mobile makes me proud everyday in how they walk the talk when it comes to supporting veterans and on a personal level, I'm so grateful that T-Mobile continues to be a partner to WQW. Supporting this partnership with WQW is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

I'm also so grateful that WQW accepted my husband to be one of the first cohort of veterans to go through their Built For More program and I have witnessed within my own life the positive changes WQW has had on my husband. He shows up everyday with a greater sense of purpose in supporting me and our girls and our pets too! This program helped my husband to want to learn more about his TBI and opened his mind to have better understanding and clarity on how he could show up as a better man for himself and for his family. And it has inspired me to strive to be the best version of myself so I can be a better caregiver/spouse to my family.

I am honored to serve on WQW's National Advisory Board and am grateful that I get to volunteer with WQW every year. I have served as a companion to another military caregiver and have also served as a Mom, which means I help prepare all the home cooked meals for a cohort of warriors during their in- person week in Bozeman. I can truly say I get more out of volunteering than I ever expected and the people I have met and friends I've made have changed my life forever and for the better.

As a donor to Warriors & Quiet Waters, I am continually inspired by their unwavering commitment to the well-being of our nation's 9/11 combat veterans. This remarkable nonprofit goes beyond simply providing support; they offer innovative programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our veterans.
The organization provides a variety of immersive programs, ranging from one-week retreats to extended months-long experiences, all designed to help veterans reconnect with themselves and others.
The programs they offer are not about weekend get togethers — they are about lasting transformation. From the moment veterans arrive, they are met with compassion, respect, and a holistic approach to personal growth that integrates physical, emotional, and mental wellness.
For those of us who choose to support this organization, it’s clear that our contributions go directly toward something truly meaningful. We are not just funding a program; we are helping to give these veterans the opportunity to rediscover their strength and a sense of purpose.

Warriors & Quiet Waters is an incredible nonprofit. Their programs provide a serene and supportive environment where veterans can reconnect with nature, bond with peers, and regain confidence. The organization goes beyond just a "trip"—it offers a comprehensive experience with professional guides, meaningful mentorship, and long-term support. WQW’s commitment to individualized care ensures that every participant receives exactly what they need, whether it’s camaraderie, reflection, or personal growth. What sets WQW apart is its focus on fostering long-term well-being, not just providing a one-time experience. Their dedicated staff and volunteers create a welcoming community that continues to support veterans long after they come through the programs. Warriors & Quiet Waters truly embodies the power of nature, connection, and purpose in helping veterans thrive beyond their military service.

Equip. Empower. Experience. Endure. WQW is a truly remarkable organization that empowers post 9/11 combat veterans (and their loved ones) to find renewed grounding, hope, connection and outlet in dynamic times. WQW is a large enough organization to serve 250ish warriors annually (not to mention volunteers), with the deliberate care, attention and resources required for true transformational healing. I’m honored to have found and served this organization for almost 10 consecutive years. Through this organization, your donations will truly have significant impact in lasting healing. I know, because I’ve seen and experienced it.

I have been honored to volunteer with WQW on three of their fishing trips so far and cannot sing enough praise. Well run, well supported and well organized this non-profit raises the bar for organizations looking to make a meaningful impact on their community. Pulling people from all geographic, demographic and cultural backgrounds this non-profit unites people under the cause of warrior relaxation and healing and manifests some of the most cohesive teams as a result. I cannot say enough great things about this organization and sincerely look forward to volunteering for another couple of fishing trips this next year. Strongly recommend!

WQW is an outstanding organization of men and women dedicated to helping post 9/11 combat veterans learn how to successfully re-enter society and thrive. As a volunteer I have personally witnessed the positive transformations this organization regularly achieves for the service members attending the various programs. The professional staff members and the hundreds of volunteers who support the mission of WQW demonstrate to the warriors attending the program how appreciative and loving people are to those men and women who have sacrificed so much to preserve and protect our freedom. A person considering a donation to WQW can donate with complete confidence that their donation is being put to great benefit to our warriors.

Warriors and Quiet Waters (WQW) is the gold standard. Since I found them in 2017 I cannot say enough great things, and I recommend them to every combat veteran that I meet. After 25 years of active duty and combat service, I needed an organization to lean on for connectiona and support. WQW has never let me down. Through the built for more program, continual connections, and being allowed to serve on the Alumni Council Advisory board; I am always grateful for the opportunity to give back and support my fellow combat Veterans through service. Gold standard!

Being given the opportunity to volunteer at this incredible organization was truly one of the luckiest chances of my life. It was so rewarding, I almost felt selfish- like, "After all these amazing caregivers have done in their lives, there's no way they are really grateful for me and the little bit that I did." But they were! And as volunteers, we DID make an impact. Collectively, we started the week as strangers and ended it as family. The structure of the program allows for emotional and spiritual bonding without forcing it. As a recovering addict, I know how difficult it can be sometimes for people to open up without first establishing trust. Warriors & Quiet Waters lets the trust build organically so that you're not just making friends for a week, you're creating sisterhood for a lifetime.

“Volunteering” for WQW doesn’t accurately reflect the profound rewards we receive as volunteers. Being a Mom for Veterans who have given so much is a privilege, an honor. Without seeking their attention you still see how much they appreciate the loving atmosphere created by the WQW staff and the many volunteers, all set in beautiful Montana. It is a deeply fulfilling opportunity and my husband and I are so thankful for the opportunity to support this impactful and conscientiously managed program. Thank you!

I've volunteered with Warriors & Quiet Waters multiple times over the past several years and I am consistently impressed by the organization's vision and leadership but, more importantly, its impact. I've had multiple conversations with veterans who, prior to participating in a WQW program, were in a dark place, unable to discern purpose or path. These same men, years later, are thriving due to the experiences and support WQW offers.

Warriors and Quiet Waters is an organization I am honored and humbled to support.

It's easy to say to a veteran, "Thanks for your service." It takes more...more heart, more commitment, and yes, more money...to offer real, practical support that meets the warrior in place. WQW has tapped into a universal truth: Nature is healing. And gratitude, like love, is also a verb. It's now our turn, our honor, to serve those who served us when it mattered.

Top knotch. My husband and I participated with WQW as a veteran and caregiver and would be honored to volunteer. Ten years post deployment, we had tried every traditional and non traditional therapy. One week with this organization, and we are meeting goals, life is changing for the better, and progressing in areas we never thought possible. There is hope, thanks to WQW. With out the love and support of donors and volunteers, we wouldn’t be thriving the way we are. This is by far the best organization for veterans, their families, and their caregivers.

I am a donor and supporter of WQW Foundation, and have decades of experience with different nonprofit organizations. I wish that I could rate WQW Foundation with more than 5 stars! The mission of WQW is unquestionably noble and needed in our world of neglected and disregarded veterans and their caregivers. Its unique programs approach is unduplicated and extremely successful in achieving established goals.

As important as the mission, however, is the efficiency and professional management of WQW. Its programs all are fully consistent with their stated mission; and the professionalism with which the organization is run is a model for other nonprofits.

I without hesitation recommend support and donations to Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation.

"Making a difference" is an often-overused phrase. In the case of WQW, it is an understatement. The leadership of this organization has the experience and trust of the post 9-11 participants to actual help those who served America to find their new purpose. The staff, alumni, and volunteers give more than expected to those who want to find their footing...be it in a Montana stream, on a Montana trail, but ultimately with their families and in their communities. This organization has a clearly stated mission and purpose for being a growing non-profit that truly does more than just make a difference.

When Jean (my wife of 57 years) and I were contemplating starting a non-profit in Bozeman, we had just finished reading, thinking and talking through a book together titled "The Purpose Driven Life". We found that study both meaningful and helpful. While fly-fishing for Northern Pike (Prairie Sharks, 4 feet long) in northern Saskatchewan, Jean leaned back and commented: "I wish we could bring a C-130 load of wounded Marines here to experience this restorative beauty and serenity." I said, "That's a great idea. Let's talk about it on the drive home from Saskatoon." We did. I wrote an operations analysis of the problems, assumptions, facts, alternative solutions, recommendations and facilitation. After a church service in which literally every point made centered around water and restoration, we said to each other: "If we do this, it will change our lives." We found some like-minded people. Together we did it, along with hundreds of volunteers and donors. AND, it changed ALL of our lives!

Although I have served as an office volunteer for WQW, I am primarily a donor for this wonderful organization. I am continually amazed and grateful for the commitment and service this group of dedicated staff and volunteers give to our military veterans who have returned to us with visible and unseen injuries. WQW has a unique mission, I feel, in working with willing veterans seeking to reintegrate into society in a healthy way, finding a renewed purpose in their life once no longer serving their fellow citizens. I am impressed that WQW does not just interface with their warrior participants once and move on; rather, WQW "stays with them" through their journey of healing and reconciliation, providing additional opportunities to grow and change, moving forward in their lives. This is not something I can do as an individual layperson, as I don't have the experience, knowledge or skills, but I can support their life-affirming work through my donations. I am grateful that I am able to do this.

I will forever be grateful for my fishing experience with WQW! It was a once in a lifetime experience that jump-started my confidence, which I struggled with after leaving the military.
It was hard to translate my military skills into civilian life, and it left me feeling less than capable.
However, the time spent with WQW helped me fill more comfortable taking chances and challenging myself.
It came at a low time in my life and wrapped me in positivity as I have never experienced before.
Since my fishing experience, I have spent more time in nature healing and with other veterans.
I have started to gain back the sense of community that I lost after leaving the military.

Easily my favorite non-profit in terms of the work they do with veterans, the outputs of that work, the evolution and growth of the program, and the organization that manages, directs and guides the program.

WQW focuses on how they are materially impacting veterans' lives and how they can be even better from FX to FX and year to year. Their current director has built a team that focuses on the experience of the event, and adequate resourcing (external and internal) to drive the event forward, with effective collaboration and direction to evolve the organization to remain effective and relevant.

My initial experience was as a participant and I walked away thinking it was the best veteran's experience in my 8 years since my retirement. Since that first experience, I have continued to admire the organization and I have interacted with many different levels of the organization's leadership, and with each contact, I am more impressed.

WQW will remain my #1 veteran's support non-profit and I will always look for opportunities to support and promote their work.

I’m a disabled veteran and a caregiver, this year I was selected to attend a retreat with WQW as a caregiver.

I am so grateful for this foundation. I spent a week where I was given an opportunity to meet & connect other caregivers, trained & mentored by an experienced fly-fishing guide and matched with a former attendee ‘companion’ from my area. We also had a wonderfully thoughtful crew of moms and team leaders who go out of their way to make you feel at home and supported.

I cannot emphasize enough the attention to detail WQW puts into planning and executing these retreats. They level of compassion and kindness are overwhelming.

I could not emphasize enough what a fantastic organization this is. I have been given the skills to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful new hobby to unwind when I need too. And a big thanks hors to there sponsors all the guide services who teach us and to Simms Outfitters who equips us with the gear we need to enjoy our new hobbies.

Having served with WQW as both Warrior participant and volunteer for over 7 years now, I can say that this is an amazing nonprofit for both the recipients of their service and the community it draws it volunteers from! As a volunteer, I am able to get self fulfillment through service to others and ensure that the Warriors receive the love, care, compassion, and relaxing time they need to embrace the healing and self care through fly fishing. As a Warrior myself, I learned it is okay to let others look after me, to accept help, to take a week to relax and to learn the skill of fly fishing to allow myself an outlet to the stress of life and my deployed experiences. We say everyone comes as a stranger but leaves as family and there is no doubt in my mind that it is 100% true. I have met many friends through WQW that continue to help me through some of the toughest times in my life and many that I am proud to call brother.

The staff is amazing! They all TRULY CARE about taking care of the Warrior participants that is much like the brotherhood we experience in the military from quality leaders. The experience they strive to create is met at every level and they are always looking for quality ways to improve their program.

I was a participant in 2011 for a fly fishing experience. Everything about it exceeded my expectations: the accommodations, food, staff, volunteers, guides, gear, instruction, and scenery were all amazing. The experience gave me another reason to get back into nature and taught me a lot about fishing and also about myself. It was very therapeutic, mentally and also physically. I became good friends with my guide and companion and I have been back at least once a year to visit, fish, and volunteer where I can.

The organization has gotten bigger since 2011, but the level of service, care, and enthusiasm have only increased. I was fortunate to attend an ice fishing experience and a conservation experience this year, and while different from fly fishing, they were both extremely enjoyable, educational, therapeutic, and maintained the organizations high standards.

I have no doubt this organization has saved many lives. It has also improved the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of veterans and their families.

WQW was there for me right away as I transitioned out of the military. Not only for me, but for my family. They are one of the few organizations that support your entire family. My wife and I were able to get away with each other and enjoy an amazing trip with other military couples. I’ve been apart of the WQW family for 5 years now and they are 100% the top military organization out there!! Thank you for all the lives you continue to save WQW!

Warriors & Quite Waters Foundation saved my life! Before WQW I was in a very dark place and thought I would never find the light again. While separating myself from the world, I was also shutting out and distancing myself from my family. Losing my family was not a option, changes needed to be made.
This is were WQW came into the picture. While teaching us everything we need to know about fly fishing, they also taught us something more important. The healing power of water and its surroundings. I have had the opportunity to attend multiple FX and have learned something new at each one.
Warriors and Quiet Water was the light I needed to get out of the dark. Instead of losing myself and my family we’ve actually become stronger because of what I’ve learned through WQW.
I am forever grateful for WQW staff, volunteers, and more importantly the donors for helping me in my time of need!

Warriors and Quiet Waters sets the example for nonprofits to follow. From the minute you interact with them, they feel like family. My days on my trip with them I literally felt spoiled or like royalty. There expertise, professionalism, organization and more make it apparent they really do care. You also get the benefit of sharing the experience with your brothers and sisters. I am glad to be part of the WQW

This organization is second to none! I have participated as a warrior and as a volunteer. To say it has been life changing would be an understatement! It has facilitated so much growth and positive change in my life and in the lives of so many others. The people who run the organization are as remarkable as the warriors who come through the program and the volunteers they pick to help. Words can not do justice to everything they do to help the warriors of this great country, they also can't describe the fulfillment that volunteering to help provide the life changing experience to the veterans and families they serve!

Came in from out of state to volunteer and support my fellow brothers and sisters in arms but left with my own heart full too.

WQW listens and encourages feedback to make it great for warriors and their families as well as volunteers. They are constantly evolving and adjusting to accommodate for every person in any background. They have a place/program for everybody- and if they somehow don't, they listen and are willing to adjust their current programs or create new programs altogether.

They strive to foster passion for new hobbies and connections in a no pressure-supportive environment. I came in and left feeling like family and was truly sad to leave. I will definitely be back again and again.

As far as logistics, they made sure I had transportation, housing, I was also fed (VERY well, I might add...).. they care about their volunteers as much as their participants.

I couldn't recommend this organization enough and I can't wait to get back out there and help again.

Two of my greatest passions in life: fly fishing for trout in Montana and helping my brothers and sisters in arms who need it. I am very fortunate. I went to war and returned home without serious injury. There are many who did not. The very first time I volunteered at an event it was plain to see how therapeutic the program was. I have been fly fishing my entire life, so I took this aspect of the sport for granted. Seeing my warrior companion engaged and enthralled in something that I loved so much changed my life. I have been fortunate enough to volunteer with WQW on multiple occasions and even interned there in college. This is truly an organization that sticks to their mission, and bless them all for it.

This is an incredible organization that provides a truly special opportunity for wounded veterans.
I had been out of the Marine Corps for fourteen years and injured for fifteen. I didn’t think that opportunities like this were for me but when I had first gotten hurt, there were either none or I had not heard of any opportunities for wounded combat veterans. I had just completed my schooling and had stumbled upon WQW; with uncertainty about my eligibility or if it was meant for someone in my situation, I applied. I am so glad that I did.
After being accepted and invited, I was greeted at the airport with a warm welcome and that was only the start. It was five magical days of instruction and practical applications of fly fishing. It was also five days of hanging out with others that you had never met but felt like you had served together, creating memories. The experience is unlike any other out there, it’s done right through and through. And to top it all off, all of the gear came home with me so I could implement flyfishing into my life to give me the fulfillment that I was looking for.
Without a doubt, it was a top notch experience ran by people who truly take pride in taking care of others. It is surrounded by a strong supportive community who believe in their vision and their operations. One of the best experiences that I have ever had!

I have been honored to be a volunteer Companion with WQW from 2017 – 2019 with WQW at the Elk Meadows FX Experience. It truly is an amazing program for the Warriors, and as well as the Companions. It sounds so corny to say I wanted to give back, but it’s true.
We civilians at times forget what the sacrifices our Warriors make in keeping our country free and safe. A week is so short to really get to know your Warrior, but it sets the stage to help them understand we do care and are thankful for their service. I am so happy the program now includes women Warriors!

Even though the programs are small in numbers, they are huge on emotions and meaningful interaction. It’s a memorable and heartfelt moment when your Warrior says, ‘I didn’t think I could ever be in a room with so many civilians. I never wanted to be here, but I came and am so glad I did’. The brotherhood among the Warriors is very real. And that brotherhood coupled with the Companions, the Moms and the fishing guides, is magical.

I have had the good fortune of staying in contact with several of the members of the FX Experiences. I highly recommend the experience to everyone who wants a transforming experience. It has made my life fuller. I hope next year I will be able to return as a Companion!

I have been involved with Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation (WQW) since 2009 as a volunteer companion for fishing experiences (FX's) for wounded warriors. The transformative effect for every warrior is amazing; I have witnessed first-hand the calming and emotionally healing impact upon all participants, both warriors and volunteers. The program is, of course, for the warriors but volunteers come away blessed and touched by the interaction with those who have given so much for our country. A week with WQW does not, cannot, cause all of a warrior's wounds to disappear but the experience shines a light on a positive path forward. It is my hope that a day will come when organizations such as WQW are no longer needed but until that day arrives I will continue to volunteer my time and donate money to support our warriors. I encourage my countrymen to do the same.

A few simple words cannot express what I have been given with Warriors and Quiet Waters, starting with the opportunity. Up until a few years ago nearly all the experiences for combat veterans are geared towards the guys, so when I was told about this and offered the opportunity I didn't think I was eligible. It took a lot of gentle coaxing to get me to submit my application, and within a few weeks I was invited to the first combat veterans women's fx. I cannot tell you the number of times I almost contacted them to say "no".
As words cannot describe, humbly, I am glad I did not and that I went.
Throughout the entire adventure from Guides to Moms to staff, to sponsors; I was left speechless nothing, and I mean nothing compares.
It is in this place; the Mountains of Montana, the quiet of the rivers, through the ballet of fly fishing, I have found a measure of peace.

My husband was a proud VietNam vet who returned to ridicule and an ungrateful nation. When the Gulf War started, we vowed to do whatever we could to support and encourage those who returned. We continued our commitment after 9/11. However, we never found a "hands on" group - until a friend told me about WQW.
WQW is an amazing group of dedicated and focused people..both the staff and the volunteers. We can never repay those who serve, but we can show them our appreciation.
I have volunteered as a "Mom" for 6 (or 7??) years and have made everlasting friends. I look forward to the week each year when we get the privilege of volunteering for a truly worthy organization.

We are pleased to support over 20 nonprofits. All are great and help many good causes. One
of the most significant to me is Warriors- and -Quiet- Waters - Foundation in Bozeman,Mt
We have contributed financially and I have volunteered as a driver and companion and my wife has served as a "Mom" and cook to bring a week of peace and happiness to severely wounded war veterans who come to Montana , fully paid for by this organization to learn
to fly fish and enjoy the tranquility of our streams.
As a driver I picked up a recovering army sergeant who arrived at our airport with his dog. The dog was wearing a vest made from the flak jacket this soldier was wearing when he was severely wounded by an "improvised explosive devise". This soldier had a leg that needed amputation but he wouldn't let the doctors take it until he finished competing
around the USA and overseas in Wounded Warriors Games. He also had a very severe case of PTSD. I never understood the ravages of PTSD until I had spent an hour my car with this
brave soldier.
He was excited to come to Montana and learn fly fishing for a week as a guest of Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation. As a veteran myself, having served in Korea, this was one of
the most meaningful nonprofit experiences in my life.

I have been privileged to volunteer as a Companion once and as a Co-Team Leader several times.
I am always very humbled to be able to help with these FX's. It is absolutely amazing to see the transformation of the Warrior from picking them up at the Airport, fishing a couple days, and then, the Sayonara Dinner.
Warriors and Quite Waters does a great job of providing the venue to help these Warriors regain trust in themselves and others.
It really seems to get the Warriors "out of themselves" and they transition into a happy person enjoying the outdoors and satisfaction of catching fish on a fly rod. Being part of a group again seems to make a difference for them also.
The guides, WQW Staff, and all the volunteers are 100% focused on ensuring a quality experience for the Warriors. A great organization with a great mission.

I started as a volunteer life coach for WQW in 2018 as part of the CX program. I saw it as a way to merge my patriotic gratitude with my professional skills as an Executive Coach. I had an appreciation for the power of outdoor/recreational therapeutic approaches and the positive catalyst it can make in overcoming personal challenges. Nothing prepared me however for the perfect synergies of Quiet Waters Ranch, the serenity of the fishing experience, the generous and loving volunteers, and life-changing effect on me that interacting with our nation's heroes up close in such personal way has had on me. I have told many - that this is the most important work I do now. I give my time throughout the year, travel from across the country, and donate financially to be part of this loving community and to serve these heroes.

I never served in the military and wanted to give back in a small way to these incredible warriors via this volunteer work with the WQW. The rewards are far reaching in many positive ways. I am hopeful the two warriors felt that the experience also provided them the camaraderie, peace and serenity that comes with fly fishing in Montana. I knew of WQW for a few years before I ever even considered applying to volunteer- I thought I did not have anything to offer. Boy was I wrong! I really like to cook and bake and spend time with my 2 daughters .... well we became a cook team in 2018 and WQW fueled not our “like” for cooking and spending time together- it birthed a passion for us cooking together, especially in Montana! We might of just built ourselves a little reputation with our home cooked meals where we make everything from scratch- including every bite of bread we serve! It comes from a passion for what we do and who we do it for. The Warriors, their caregivers, their families..... we love you each and want to thank you for your sacrifices. We have been welcomed into the veteran community and we respect the bond you all share. My wonderful “son” has been through the program and actually lives in Bozeman. He is responsible for our volunteering with WQW. This Texas team is already wanting to plan our next FX!

Warriors and Quiet Waters is a top notch foundation. As an alumni they helped me in so many ways that meer words cant do enough justice to show how great they are. The best word I can use I guess would be family. From the moment you arrive in Montana the staff and volunteers treat you as if you were a member of their own family. I've never felt that from complete strangers before. As a combat vet wounded in Afghanistan it showed me exactly what my sacrifices were for. Hopefully these words will compel people to donate to such a worthy organization. With veteran suicide rates at such high levels I truly believe what they do saves lives. Please donate or volunteer. There's a sense if peace that goes with fly fishing, as you focus on the water and, at least for a time, leave your other troubles behind. You can see this happen as the week goes on and they really get into the fishing. Rewarding doesn't begin to describe my experience, as I think I get at least as much out of it as the warriors do. I volunteered as part of a team of "moms who cook" this past spring over a 4 day fly fishing experience. Our team of 4 prepared breakfast and dinner for the warriors, companions and guides (18-24 persons) . The program is so well organized -- not only for its participants, but also for its volunteers. Orientation/training is detailed, yet simple; expectations are clear and easy to meet.
To begin to know these warriors and volunteer companions (often vets themselves) who gave so much and to prepare meals which we'd all enjoy together was such a wonderful gift. To notice the positive changes in these warriors (courtesy of Montana serenity and fly fishing) over the several days we were with them gave proof to the success of this mission.
I can't wait to volunteer again next year!

That's a tough question to answer, considering I liked everything about it and was repeatedly amazed by the generosity, kindness, and genuine concern for the well being of everyone present. Being comfortable around such a relatively large group of people is something I thought I was no longer capable of... Sharing space and company with so many people uniquely bonded by the experience of having endured the darkness of combat and warfare, regardless of service or era, and knowing not a word need be spoken for someone to understand that a wounded mind may never fully heal. So to try and answer your question...what I liked most about this experience was being constantly reminded of and shown the natural beauty of the world and how immersing yourself in an activity that requires your patience; and continuous effort in expanding your knowledge, skill, and understanding of the flow of life and harmony required to resonate with the rest of creation....and all through the practice and experience of seeking to perfect the art of fly fishing...and in the process, however briefly, escaping the past while immersed in life and the appreciation of it. Although each day continues to be its own battle, I at least have a good memory that reminds me, at the very least, that there are other Veterans out there that i may again have an opportunity to spend time around. They being some of the only people in this world i can be around that know the answers to questions they would never ask. The questions asked by non-Veterans that i am not able to answer in a way that makes them understand what they can never know, having never experienced what now creates a new battle for me each day. WQW’s was a few days of peace in my mind that assured me that at least the possibility of a peaceful day is possible.
