Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Clinics, Health

Mission: "Helping people overcome serious health problems by providing case management for specialty medical care, utilizing volunteer physicians and accessing community solutions." We achieve our mission by working closely with our 117 volunteer specialty physicians and the 16 free and sliding scale local clinics who refer people who are in need. Since its creation, We Care has been the only organization in Lake County that provides personalized case management to confirm eligibility, and constant oversight to place clients with a volunteer specialist physician. Starting 21 years ago with just one employee who handled the organizational oversight as well as case management, We Care has grown to a total of four employees and has expanded and streamlined processes, earning recognition and accolades. From Community Service awards from Disney World, to Non-Profit of the Year from the local Chamber of Commerce, We Care of Lake County is an institution that remains steadfast, committed and reliable. Thanks to a board of directors comprised of doctors, local hospitals and other service providers, We Care has remained focused and deeply committed to the people we serve.

Melissa and Wanda, at We Care, have been just phenomenal with my family. My father took ill in July of this year. He has had 3 surgeries, spent over 100 days now in the hospital and a nursing facility, had a feeding tube placed, is now on a walker and is in need of adult diapers and all those kinds of supplies required for his care. When someone referred me to We Care, I went in and sat down with Melissa and Wanda and told them what was going on. They were so very caring, generous beyond belief, and went above and beyond to give me any supplies that might help my father. I couldn't believe how I got a potty chair, IV pole, tons of diapers, wipes, chucks, creams all for $25.00. I was astonished and beyond grateful for the help. I went back a second time when we couldn't get a pharmacy to supply his pump for his feeding tube or any food or equipment yet after being released from the rehab center from out of state. Melissa gave me feeding bags, syringes, and all sorts of things she had to help us get him set up at home. She helped us so much more than anyone else had. My family and I are so grateful for this organization and the care they have shown us. What an amazing blessing they have been. If you are in need of different medical supplies or help please look them up and go and visit. If you're not, but you are able to donate to them please do. Whether you have supplies they can pass on or you're able to help financially, you will be a blessing. You never know when, in an instant, your life will totally change and you may be in a situation like us and you're needing help. Thank you We Care and God bless you wonderful angels.

I was in auto accident and end results left me unable to walk, multiple back and neck surgeries, lost my job, disabled, and totally depended on a dear friend to be my caregiver. A few months ago, I contacted We Care in search of a hospital bed. Since I am unable to drive and do not have a truck, I hired someone to go to pickup the bed. I was told I had to pay $100 dollars as a donation for use of the bed and that it needed to be returned when I no longer needed it. I had the bed for a few days (unused) when I learned my insurance had approved me for a new more efficient one. I contacted We Care told them that I did not need the bed after all and that I had not used it and wanted to return it. I asked if I could get the $100 back since I had not used the bed and had no use for it. I was asked when I thought I could get the bed back to them and I estimated a few days, but it took me about a week or so longer to find and hire someone to transport it back to them. I was told I would get the $100 back as soon as I returned the bed. I did return the bed in the condition that I received. That was months ago. I called and emailed a few times asking about the reimbursement and was promised to get reimbursed but to no avail. The last call I made I asked to speak with the Executive Director but was told that she was busy working an event that was approaching, but that she would be sending the reimbursement out.
My complaint is that I feel I was lied to and put off and disregarded. The money is important to me because I lost a job making 45k and now I am only getting a disability check that does not begin to meet my needs, and I borrowed the money to pay for the bed. I am not happy with how I was treated and feel if the Executive Director could not reimburse me; then should not have made the commitment to do so. In addition, we noticed that some staff takes extended lunch hours and not available during the hours they claim. Sometimes your phone call do not get answered. This to me shows an unprofessional aspect of this organization. I read some of the reviews and it seems many have had good experiences with this agency, but I personally cannot attest to that. On a final note, never promise what you can't or won't deliver.

My mother was released from rehab after back surgery and was in need of a hospital bed and wheel chair. I contacted the wonderful ladies of We Care and without hesitation were able to provide just what we needed. You are a lifesaver! My mom is now home and comfortable where she can continue her healing process.

Thank you so much for what you do for our community. This is such a needed service and you all do it with grace and professionalism!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Working for We Care has been an amazing experience. Meeting so many people that I have been able to assist with their care in seeing a specialist, has been so rewarding for me.

The Florida Department of Health in Lake County has partnered with We Care as a safety net provider of medical specialty care and diagnostic procedures for over five years. It has been my privilege to work closely with their awesome staff for the last four years. In addition to recording services they provide through the Lake Health Partnership, I documented the heart warming comments and very satisfied rating reported on Customer Satisfaction Surveys. The following are actual survey comment: I love that they care about me; This has to be the best staff I have ever dealt with!; They went above & beyond; A major blessing to have this place; I can't say with words how much they do; The finest care anywhere; God bless you for all you do for us; Simply the best - Thank you to all; Amazing, wonderful staff, compassionate, caring-Love you all.
My personal Thank you to We Care for the difference you continue to make in Lake County as an exceptional non-profit!

Even though this organization has been around for 21 years, I didn't know of its existence until a few years ago. The number of people they have helped is amazing and no matter what they will do anything they can to help those in need!

Until I became a member of We Care of Lake County FL. I was not aware of this super wonderful organization. They care of anyone between 18-65 that does not have insurance and needs specialty medical care. I have a friend who broke her hip and We Care found a orthopedic Dr., Hospital, therapist, equipment and even prescriptions to help her through her, surgery and to full recovery!!

That is only one of hundreds of people they have helped. The Executive Director is a fantastic dedicated person with a loving, Giving staff.

We Care of Lake County provides a service so important to uninsured low income residents of Lake County. Without We Care needed medical treatment would not be available.
The staff are caring and compassionate and go above and beyond what is expected to help their clients. Great agency!

We are proud that We Care, celebrating 18 years of service, continues to serve the residents of Lake County. This very active and growing nonprofit has been a critical partner to the ten free and sliding scale clinics located in Lake County, providing case management, oversight and support for clients who seek the medical services of a specialty physician. Coordinating the care for their clients, this staff takes seriously their mission and provide expanded services including diagnostic services and medicine (when funding allows), direction for other community services, and their annual food drive. We Care is indebted to the 144 physicians who volunteer their time.
