Causes: Civil Rights, Voter Education & Registration, Voting Rights
Mission: Engages tomorrows leaders on their own terms, and empowers them through education, civic and cultural engagement, and hands-on democracy.
Programs: Field: the washington bus's field program focused on registering young voters at cultural events in washington state. During the spring and summer, we led large voter registration efforts at festivals such as sasquatch, and capitol hill block party to engage young voters.
outreach: through the outreach program, the bus met and engaged thousands of young people online and on-the-ground: in classrooms, through organizational partners, on our blog hella bus, and at cultural and community events across the state. Events organized and sponsored by the bus provide many young people a first encounter with civic engagement.
legislative: the bus provides a direct legislative connection to young people throughout the state, and an important perspective on policy formulation. The bus works on elections access issues to improve voting access and support voting rights in washington state.
internship: the washington bus internship program focused specifically on empowerment and leadership development for young people. Bus interns worked hands-on in the organizing and legislative arenas. The internship drew from high schools all across the seattle area, and provided a supportive learning environment through peer and mentor relationships, and focusing on tools to become activists for social change.
