Mission: Voluntary action center, which serves bureau, dekalb, kendall, lasalle and putnam counties, is committed to providing high quality services that address the basic transportation and nutrion needs of its communities.
Programs: The transportation program of voluntary action center (vac) consists of transvac and medvac services. Transvac provides transportation for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and the public to and from community facilities and resources for purposes of acquiring/receiving services, to get to and from work, to participate in activities, or attend events in order to reduce isolation and promote successful independent living. Medvac provides transportation for older adults, persons with disabilities, and the public to and from out of town medical appointments with the purpose of providing access to needed medical care. Transvac and medvac services provided 232,845 rides during the fiscal year.
nutritional services program of vac consists of meals on wheels, senior luncheons, summer food service program, and community dinner. Meals on wheels provides home delivered meals to older adults and others in need who are homebound because of illness, physical or mental impairment, or who are otherwise isolated. Volunteers deliver meals and make personal contact with each client to ensure their safety and well-being. Senior luncheons provide nutritious meals in centrally located and accessible congregate meal sites for the purpose of improving nutrition, promoting better health, and reducing isolation. Summer food service program is sponsored through the usda and provides lunches and morning and afternoon snacks to children in collaboration with park districts, camps, and housing authorities. The community dinner is an evening meal provided 2-3 times monthly available to anyone in need at no cost. Dinners are sponsored by individuals, organizations, and businesses. 225,050 meals were provided in total by the nutrition program during the fiscal year.
