Mission: To speak for those affected by problem gambling: advocate, educate, promote recovery. To improve the health of oregonians by educating others about gambling and problem gambling, promoting recovery, advocating to state and local government on behalf of problem gamblers and their families, and increasing community awareness of problem gambling.
Programs: Provide problem gambling recovery mentor services: performed outreach to multnomah county mental health providers and community to promote problem gambling recovery mentor services. Contracted with four problem gambling peer mentors to provide services to problem gamblers seeking recovery. Provided supervision, training and administrative support to the contracted peer mentors. Provided a peer mentor certification course to promote persons in long term recovery to become peer mentors.
vpgr speakers bureau: maintains and supports a speakers bureau of persons in recovery from gambling related problems. Vpgr speakers participated in 30 events reaching over 2,000 people. Vpgr provided speakers training for vpgr members and those interested in joining the speakers bureau.
build community and promote recovery of individuals. Hosted bi-monthly meetings, five community forums and a board retreat. Thirty-eight persons attended vpgr meetings during 2017. Vpgr members, as persons in long-term recovery, served as recovery models for the general public and in doing so promoted the recovery of individuals.
