Programs: Provide election for and education concerning legendary virginia persons. Install plaques that honor these virginians in virginia beach city owned public garden/walk dedicated to this purpose. This years honoree was the race horse secretariat. The votes were cast by 450 notable electors within the state of virginia. These electors are comprised of prominent news editors, heads of historical societies and heads of virginia colleges and universities. Six thousand card packs were printed with historical facts about the various figures that have been honored over the years, and were distributed to all 4th grade students in the city of virginia beach as well as any other students, teachers or parents that requested them by mail or through the website. Two new columns were added to the walk in 2012, which brought the total columns to eleven. The eleven columns accomodate sixty-six plaques, fifty-four from previous elections and twelve available for future plaques. Each column is designed to hold six plaques.
