Causes: Public & Societal Benefit
Mission: The purpose shall be to perpetuate the achievements of giovanni da verrazzano, a noted italian navigator, and the fostering of public recognition of the outstanding personalities of our state, who, in studied opinion of the committee, have distinguished themselves for their valuable contribution to the welfare and progress of our community, under the joint sponsorship of the grand lodge of rhode island, order of sons of italy america, and the department of rhode island italian american war veterans of the united states, incorporated. The corporation shall engage in such charitable community activities which are designed to forfill the purpose of this corporation. Foremost among the activities shall be the annual verrazzano day observance dinner which shall take place in the month of may each year.
Programs: "annual verrazzano day observance dinner and verrazzano day dinner award" the dinner enables the corporation to perpetuate the achievements of giovanno da verrazzano, noted italian navigator and award the years recipient of the "verrazzano day dinner award". The award is awarded annually to the person that has distiguished themselves in the studied opinion of the committee, for their valued contributions to the welfare and progress of the community.
dr. Renato e. Leonelli student award and dr. Renato e. Leonelli resource award. Annually, fifteen hundred dollars is awarded to an undergraduate student who has achieved the highest score in oral and written italian for a period of three and one half semesters. In addition the college of the recipient of the aforementioned "student award" is awarded five hundred dollars to purchase library books and/or audio visual equipment to be used to enrich the teaching of italian.
