As a first year active member, I am very lucky to have fell into a fantastic group of volunteers working in the west part of Rutland County. Most of us new volunteers were unaware of all aspects of the restoration but if you want to, you can easily be taught the hows during the work. Otherwise, some people prefer to search the ground for hidden stones, some just like to do the cleaning, others are problem solvers and think up amazing ways to right a fallen stone or assemble it back together. We all have our own preferences and skills that overlap and ultimately complete a cemetery restoration. I am forever grateful for that summer and so many new friends. (Picture by E. McDevitt)
