Causes: Business & Industry
Mission: The utility safety & ops leadership network (usoln) serves as an advocate for a safe, secure and productive utility work environment and as a catalyst for the prevention of incidents.
Programs: The certified utility safety professional (cusp) certification program is the only program which offers utility-specific safety leadership credentials to meet the unique requirements of utilities and related contractors. The cusp crediential is only awarded to those who meet the eligibility requirements, whose application is approved by the review committee and pass the cusp exam. There is an expectation that utility safety leaders taking this exam have a solid understanding in the core subject areas of standards, hazard id, incident prevention, leadership skills, human performance and operations. During the calendar year 2017 approximately 316 professionals took and passed the exam.
membership in the utility safety & ops leadership network (usoln) provides many benefits to both individuals and companies that decide to join. Over 727 individuals benefit from their membership in the usoln. Member organizations include investor-owned utilities, co-ops, municiple providers and contractors providing services to the utility industry. The usoln offers onsite education and support thoughout the year. Group meetings are held at the annual ip utility safety conference & exposition. Individuals who join committees also have the opportunity to work and share ideas all year long with utility industry colleagues around the country. For those reletively new to their leadership role in utility safety or operations, the usoln offers continuing education and access to utility industry experts.
