Mission: The uss missouri memorial association is dedicated to preserving the battleship missouri and sharing her story and place in history.
Programs: In 1998, pursuant to the organization's purpose, the uss missouri (bb-63) battleship was relocated to hawaii. A national memorial commemorating the end of hostilities in world war ii was established and opened to the public on january 29, 1999. Since opening, the memorial has welcomed millions of visitors including many school groups and youth encampment groups. The encampment program enlists youth and provides "hands on" experience in shipboard life as well as educational programs on the significance of the uss missouri and world war ii. In conjunction with operating the memorial, maintenance is an ongoing process. While significant progress has been made to restore the battleship missouri to her former glory, work remains to enable access to additional areas of the ship, to expand and improve educational artifacts and exhibits, and to provide improved disabled access.
