Mission: Our mission is to help establish crucial standards for testing the bacteria-killing power of antibiotics. The results we will interpret and share, allowing healthcare providers to use the safest and most effective tools to save patient lives.
Programs: The organization is formed to provide expert scientific analyses, panel input and critical information regarding antimicrobial susceptibility that is needed by physicians to optimize infectious disease therapies. National experts in disciplines including clinical microbiology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology (pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics), toxicology, infectious disease practice and regulatory policy and in vivo/in vitro studies will be asked to volunteer their time to analyze scientific data and provide input on current and accurate antimicrobial susceptibility testing interpretive guidelines for prescribing physicians in the united states. For example, volunteers will review clinical breakpoints listed on product package inserts and other available resources to establish consensus breakpoints for use in medical practice in the united states. Experts will then convene to discuss analytical findings so that information can be further refined and analyzed on a panel basis, and recommendations can be formed. The input from the expert analysis and panels will be disseminated throughout the united states in order to provide available information and resources for the public. The organization intends to ultimately have a website to offer an onllne and readily available resource of information. This information will be of use in optimizing the availability and appropriateness of antibiotic use for the public and the accessibility of information for governmental entities and other interested organizations. The organization wlll also present at professional meetings in order to disseminate information and resources, and will interact with eucast, located in the european union. The organization plans to provide a forum for interaction (both electronically and via scheduled face to face meetings) for practitioners, scientists, government representatives and medical societies to collaborate.
