I am a HUGE fan of Special Olympics New York!!! I'm a business leader in the Albany, NY region. Several years ago, I volunteered to participate in an SO leadership council where I was able to mentor an athlete in the areas of public speaking and presenting her incredible story. It was the beginning of a friendship. Special Olympics paired me up with a gymnast, which is also a sport I have a lot of interest and experience in. I learned about Maddie's life story and we had so much fun creating a presentation that she can give others about why the organization is so meaningful to her life. Over the years, I have kept in touch with Maddie and cheered her on from the sidelines. My daughter and I even went to Florida to watch her compete! Maddie has taught me so much. She is not only a talented athlete and leader, she is a wonderful and caring person who has an impact on everyone she meets. I am so thankful to Special Olympics for all they do!

I have had the distinct pleasure of both volunteering for Special Olympics-New York and working directly for the organization in their efforts to expand services and opportunities for youth with disabilities in New York City. The impact that this organization has on youth and their families is unmatched. As a volunteer, you feel the inclusivity that is embraced by everyone who participates. The athletes feel welcome, valued and always have an amazing time. Special Olympic events are contagious; once you attend one, you leave always wanting to do more. In New York City, the City of New York recognized the organization's powerful impact, and they agreed to expand their partnership across the five boroughs and offer programs to 2,000 more students in 2023. This unprecedented expansion will be life-changing for so many students, and I can't wait to see other municipalities across New York and the U.S. follow New York's lead.

I’ve been donating to Special Olympics New York for many years. The athletes are so inspiring; the organization cares about inclusion and community; and they have one of the lowest admin fees in the state, so I know my contributions are making a difference.

I become more and more involved with Special Olympics New York each year, volunteering at events with athletes and raising funds through the Polar Plunge and other initiatives. I get more out of than I give!

After receiving yet another request from the organization for a donation, I again checked their ratings on Charity Navigator, which gives the Schenectady, NY branch a 2 star overall rating. I found it extremely interesting that their web site cites a 4 star rating, with a link to the Charity Navigator site, which shows the 4 star rating for the Washington, DC branch. This is very misleading and should be addressed with the organization. While I respect the work that Special Olympics does, I will not donate until my local branch improves their ratings. I am contacting them directly, advising them to remove my name from their mailing list.
