Causes: Amateur Sports Competitions, Sports
Mission: The mission of the usa pickleball association (usapa) is to organize and promote the growth and development of the sport of pickleball.
Programs: Tournaments: the usapa enthusiastically encourages the offering of pickleball tournaments for youth and adults to further competition and increase skills. A usapa-sanctioned tournament allows players to be ranked on a national basis by receiving tournament points for being medal winners in approved events. Usapa-sanctioned tournaments are insured by a general liability policy and participant accident policy. The usapa organizes an annual national tournament for all age groups. Regional, state and local tournaments are held throughout the year and organized by local clubs, organizations and individuals. In 2017, the usapa sanctioned 104 tournaments.
equipment: the usapa provides affordable net systems to quickly set up venues to play the sport of pickleball. Net systems are sold to individuals and resellers.
membership education, information and awareness rulebook: the purpose of the rulebook is to provide pickleball players with the rules necessary for recreational and tournament play. Some sections of these rules are designed to be used only for the conduct of sanctioned tournaments. Ambassadors: ambassadors, who are association volunteers, promote the sport of pickleball and the usapa in their local area that they have chosen to represent. At-large ambassadors are travelers that promote the sport. The usapa and regional directors help ambassadors with promotional material, forums, and training. Ambassadors may be individuals or couples working as a team. In 2017, the usapa had 1,640 total ambassadors. Grants: the usapa provides current members a maximum of 250 for the community grant program and a maximum of 350 for the high school grant program for the purchase of qualified pickleball equipment dedicated to a specific location. Special considerations will be given to locations with written "new player" training programs, areas with few pickleball locations in the vicinity, and individuals and groups that usapa deems most in need of financial assistance. In 2017, approximately 27,000 in grants went toward supporting these types of programs. Applicants must be usapa members age 18 and older. Training programs must observe all usapa rules and conditions. Membership: the usa pickleball association (usapa) was organized to promote the growth and development of pickleball, not only on a national but an international level. This organization provides players and members with official rules, tournaments, ratings, rankings and promotional materials. The usapa is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. The organization is committed to further the growth of pickleball among players of all ages. It will continue to provide the infrastructure for the development of the sport through promulgation of official rules, sponsoring and sanctioning tournaments and clinics, rating and ranking players, communicating with its members via e-mail and newsletters, training of all levels of players, and otherwise promoting pickleball. Membership plans are available for individuals and juniors. In 2017, total active memberships exceeded 22,321.
