Mission: The Mission of Urban VOICE is facilitating our students' effort towards the social and economic success so that they become self-sufficient skilled workers, nurturing strong family ties, and contributing to the enrichment of their communities.
Programs: Urban VOICE conducts a series of technology training programs as well as a series of workshops geared to provide high quality training that will allow our students to make better choices for their lives. Our technology classes include: the A+ Certification Prep (entry-level technician's certification), Microsoft Certified technician's track, Multimedia, Advanced Operating System certifications, Quickbooks, the Microsoft Office certification program and Urban SOUL (Success Options Utilizing Life), a combination of entry level computer skills and life/career skills. Our workshops include PC Bootcamp (2 weeks), PC Bootcamp for Women (5 Saturdays), Financial Security (4 Saturdays) and Entrepreneurship (4 Saturdays). New programs are being developed regularly to stay atop the employment trends. Our targeted student population includes the unemployed, welfare recipients, low-waged workers, ex-felons, abused women and ex-drug abusers. Our students range in age from 17 through 69. We serve 400 students annually. While our own financial statements reveal very little of our operating budget (at $445,000 for Fiscal 2003), we are part of a larger collaboration that serves as our fiscal agent.
