Programs: The education services department works with children and youth ages 5 to 18 to help give them the tools to succeed in their educational career. These programs include 21st century after-school program that provides a comprehensive curriculm to improve students' reading, math and pact test performance. The pre-college enrollment program offers sat, act, and college application fee waiver cards, sat workshops, financial and scholarship assistance, career and post secondary edeucation counseling, college tours, college fairs, college admission applications, and other realted services. Project ready helps 8th-12th grade students make academic progress, benefit from cultural enrichment opportunities and develop important skills, attitudes and aptitudes that will aid in their transition from high school and position them for post-secondary success.
the comprehensive hud-approved housing program provides one-on-one and group counseling that enable residents of the upstate to make informed decisions regarding their housing needs and goals. These counseling sessions are categorized into 6 categories: pre-purchase counseling, mortgage assistance, pre-rental assistance, homeless relocation, fair housing and energy conservation. The housing counseling program helps bridge the gap in minority home ownership and address the lack of afforable housing in the upstate. The program also provides one-time (per year) rental or mortgage assitance for those in need.
the employment and workforce development programs, such as the job readiness program, are designed to ease the transition into the workplace. A variety of workshops, including resume creation, interview skills, and conflict resolution, are offered to participants. The career development and learning center offers job-training services in office management and computer technology skills. Career link provides job seekers employment counseling, employability assessment, and assistance with job search. Project ready:level-up assists foster care youth in transitioning out of the foster care system to become independent and assume an economically sustainable life style.
