Causes: Economic Development
Mission: The organization was established to serve as a catalyst for economic and community development by utilizing the scientific research at newark's higher education institutions as a force to attract technology-based and other enterprises to the university heights neighborhood. Uhsp is coordinating the development of the science park, a mixed-use new technology park encompassing a 50-acre site in the central ward of the city of newark, new jersey. The master plan for the park includes 1,000,000 square feet of office, technology, and incubator space, mixed income housing, community facilities and services, a new math and science high school and retail space. To date, 352,000 square feet of office, research and incubator space has been completed in the science park together with 26 units of moderate-income owner occupied housing and a 101 child daycare center. The new science park high school opened in november 2006. A 40,000 square foot addition to the international center for public health
