Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education

Mission: The Latino Institute, Inc. is a private, non-profit, charitable organization. Our mission is to serve as a bridge between the Latino community, and the educational, cultural, governmental, social and economic institutions of society by providing accurate, factual, and timely information on the barriers and challenges affecting the education, growth, development and well-being of that community and by developing, recommending, and advocating solutions and actions which may serve as a catalyst for change. Our particular interest is educational achievement for Latinos throughout the educational continuum and the promotion of Latino culture in America. We believe, as many reasonable people believe, that educational achievement is the key to success in life. At the same time, we believe in respecting, fostering and promoting the Latino cultural heritage, especially amongst our young, as part of the development of Latinos everywhere. In the educational pathway, we are uniquely interested in college retention issues and the promotion of college Latino students towards graduate schools, Ph.D. programs and the professions. We promote these tenets through major events, conference, seminars, lectures, performances, programs, and other activities. The Latino Institute, Inc. is a national organization located in New Jersey.

The Latino Scholars Breakfast was a very dignified event. I love the classical music and the great speech by Dr. Gonzalo Perez. We need more of these programs, just like the work of the Latino Institute.

We apologize to Ms. Oliveras. The organization had an unfortunate incident , as the funds were held by a third party who was the travel agent for the Cuba tour. The issue has been resolved. Those funds have now been returned.

I paid $2750 to go to Cuba March 22-26, 2016. The money was due in December 18, 2015. In January, Car men told me that went sure the trip was a go. I contacted her again Jan, 29, 2016 and was asked to wait until Fed 2, 2016 cut a decision. Several days later I received a phone message from Carmen that the trip was canceled and to give a week for my refund to be issued on my card. On March 2, 2016 I called and left a message asking about the refund. I got no response. On March 11, 2016 I contacted the credit card company to put the charges in dispute. I was contacted buy the credit card company today that there has been NO response to their inquiry. These people are THIEVES. They should $2750 from me.

Runs a great parents program. Also, every year, they organize the largest conference in the U.S. on issues affecting the education of Latinos.

Carmen Torres is a great organizer!

I have been privileged by helping the Latino Institute working with their Latino Scholars Program. In addition, I have supported the activities and events supporting parents.
Specifically, I volunteered for the 8th Annual Latino Expo and Parents Conference this October. The conference was fantastic!! The organization knwos how to host a very professional event, covering the needs of both bilingual and Anglo parents. This is a great organization.
