Programs: Operational expense and community investment grants - united way of onlsow county supports 30 local programs, partnerships and initiatives through both external work at 12 different agencies and internally at united way to address our community's most critical needs. Through investments in three key focus areas: health, education, and income, the united way is able to address the needs of onslow county's most vulnerable residents and provide lasting change in the community. Internal activities represented by this program service accomplishment include: children healthy eating on weekends ("chew"), which provides backpacks filled with food on the weekends to 495 onslow county students who suffer from food insecurity, and stuff the bus, which provided 271 local needy children with the necessary school supplies to prepare them for academic success.
community advisory network developing onslow ("can-do") - can-do identifies onslow county's needs as associated with homelessness, self-sufficiency, and affordable housing. Cando leverages grants, resources, and pertinent data with the goal of preventing and ending homelessness. During the 2016-2017 fiscal year, united way of onslow county served 80 unique clients in 23 households, 44 adults and 36 children through work in can-do.
the jacksonville-onslow volunteer & nonprofit resource center, operating as volunteer onslow, serves as both the countywide clearinghouse for citizens looking for volunteer opportunites, as well as a capacity-building resource for more than 75 local nonprofits. Volunteer onslow advertised volunteer opportunites to 6,849 unique volunteers via www. Volunteeronslow. Org which experienced 90,796 page views during the fiscal year. The website also measured 137,170 hours of volunteer service across the service area valued at $3,164,507. Additionally, in the event of a disaster, volunteer onslow serves as the volunteer reception center in partnership with onslow county emergency operations center.
