Helping my community by volunteering with United Way is a richly rewarding experience for me. Several years ago, I began serving on the UW Community Impact Committee. As I watched the incredible response our local United Way had to Carr Fire and Camp Fire survivors, I was increasingly impressed by both the professionalism and deep compassion UW staff showed everyone who was impacted by these disasters. I now serve on the Wildfire Relief Committee and the Board of Directors. In the face of such overwhelming community need as a result of these fires, volunteering for United Way provides me the opportunity to serve my community in a way that is deeply meaningful to me and truly making a difference in the lives of individuals. I am honored to work with such a dedicated team of people.

Causes: Federated Giving Programs, Philanthropy
Mission: To improve lives in northern california by focusing on education, financial stability, and healthy by mobilizing and integrating resources and the caring power of the community.
Programs: Since 1953, united way of northern california has served the needsof far northern california residents. We cover the counties of butte, glenn, lassen, modoc, plumas, shasta, siskiyou, tehama, and trinity, raising funds for 50 local non-profit agencies making a difference in the areas of education, income, and health because we believe these are the building blocks for a good life. United way of northern california also serves as a community leader for collective impact. We encourage and support cross-sector community collaboration to not only address and fund the social issues that we face today, but to start mapping the source of these issues and addressing the root causes so that we can reduce the issues and need for intervention in the future. Currently we are leading a collective impact initiative, prosperity, under which community leaders have agreed to mobilize to improve workforce readiness and youth engagement. We also operate 2-1-1 in shasta and tehama counties. 2-1-1 is a direct-dial resource line and accompanying website that provide free human services referrals 24-7-365. Finally, we are fiscal sponsors for two programs that seek to provide strategies and awareness for homeless issues, and also fiscal sponsor for working strategies for women, a program to create self-sufficiency for women through employment and entrepreneurship.
