Mission: In august 2017, the board of directors approved a new strategic plan, mission, vision and impact areas. United way of monmouth and ocean counties mobilizes donors, volunteers and community partners to improve the lives of youth and their families. Our vision is that every child is successful, every family is financially stable, and every community we serve is stronger. Our strategic impact areas are as follows. School readiness: students are academically, developmentally and social-emotionally prepared for kindergarten. Early grade reading: students are reading and succeeding by the end of third grade. Youth career pathways: students are prepared for career and college after high school. Financial stability: households increase their income and financial capability to build a pathway to financial stability.
Programs: Education - united way of monmouth and ocean counties works to close the significant academic achievement gaps in our counties by partnering with schools and nonprofits to ensure children are reading at grade level in 3rd grade and to ensure that high school students are prepared to succeed in college or in the workplace after high school.
income - united way of monmouth and ocean counties works to address the economic security gap between household income levels and the cost of living, enabling more people to achieve financial stability by working with community partners to provide integrated financial services and supports that assist lower - and middle - income working households and adults with disabilities.
health - united way of monmouth and ocean counties works to address the gaps that prevent our young people from being safe and healthy by supporting programs that ensure children can lead safe, healthy lives and prevention and treatment programs that address high risk behaviors in adolescents.
in addition to the programs listed in 4a, b, and c above, united way of monmouth and ocean counties allows donors to designate to any 501(c)(3) health and human service organization for the current year, donor designations totaled $1,188,422 to selected agencies. Gift of warmth: the united way of monmouth and ocean counties is the trustee for the new jersey natural gas gift of warmth program. The program assists families in paying their heating bills during times of financial hardship. New jersey natural gas company matches 100% of the donations made up to $80,000. Every dollar donated goes directly to those in need. For the current year, $196,587 was distributed for heating assistance. Volunteer center: united way of monmouth and ocean counties staffs and maintains a volunteer center to provide volunteer opportunities in the area and to administer the donations in kind programs. For the current year, 227 nonprofit agencies and 2,576 volunteers registered with the volunteer center. In the two counties, 334 volunteer opportunities were presented and 20,022 volunteer matches were given to local agencies. In addition, 18 days of caring were planned and managed. In total, the volunteer center website was viewed 14,372 times. Total expenses of the volunteer center for the current year equal $261,842. Rebuild monmouth: rebuild monmouth is an initiative of united way to take immediate and long term action to help rebuild monmouth county as it recovers from the devastation of superstorm sandy. This initiative is helping families move back into their homes, mobilizing volunteers and assisting nonprofits in restoring their capacity after superstorm sandy. Uwmoc granted out all remaining funds as of 6/30/17. Monmouth county long term recovery group: united way is the fiscal agent for the monmouth county long term recovery group (mcltrg), an incorporated entity consisting of government, faith-based, corporate and nonprofit organizations whose mission is to assist residents of monmouth county in recovery from superstorm sandy by addressing and prioritizing unmet needs. United way receives funds on behalf of the mcltrg and disburses funds to assist homeowners rebuild their homes and for related administration costs. Uwmoc granted out all remaining funds as of 6/30/17. Donations in kind: in fiscal year 2017, united way of monmouth and ocean counties collected in kind donations in two major drives, warmest wishes gift drive during the holiday season and stuff the bus, school supply drive in august. These donations are distributed to partner agencies and schools in monmouth and ocean counties, who distributes them to families in need. In addition, the united way receives various other in kind donations the majority of which are also distributed to partner agencies. Total in kind donations distributed for the current year equals $146,045.
