Causes: Voluntary Employees Beneficiary Associations (Non-Government)
Mission: To receive and hold contributions made by member fire departments and their sworn firefighter employees, provide monthly health care stipend for retirees, and provide health insurance benefits for trust members and beneficiaries.
Programs: The organization is a code section 501(c)(9) veba. It is designed to provide health care subsidies to retired employees who contribute to the veba in connection with their employment. During the 2016 year there were no retirees eligible to receive health care subsides and therefore no retiree benefits were paid. The trust covers actively employed members who may be entitled to receive retiree health care subsides upon retirement depending upon the level of retiree health care benefits provided by their employer.
the trust also began providing health insurance benefits (medical, dental, vision, and flexible spending) for trust members and dependents effective january 1, 2015. The trust collects employer and employee contributions used to fund the cost of insurance premiums and operates a code section 125 flexible spending arrangement. The trust does not provide health benefits or act as an insurer. The trust provides health insurance benefits to actively employed trust members, as well as dependents of the actively employed trust members.
