Mission: UGMM exists to: Tell the stories of the underground gold miners of California both past and present. Provide educational access to the workings of an active gold mining district in California. Explain the unique geology of the Alleghany Mining District. Preserve the history of the towns and mines of the Alleghany Mining District by collecting and displaying artifacts, photos and stories. Highlight the evolution of equipment and technology in underground hardrock mining.
Programs: Museum Open Seasonally - Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend - Days and Hours: Weekends 1 p.m to 5 p.m.-Weekdays by appointment or on days when tours are scheduled - Admission is FreeExhibits under development include the evolution of hardrock drills and the history of the mines of the Alleghany Mining District. Other exhibits tell the history of the town of Alleghany, the mining district and the Sixteen to One Mine. Local minerals and rocks are on display.
