Mission: The Type 1 Diabetes International Foundation is committed to spreading awareness of Diabetes; the symptoms, different types of diabetes and treatments available through networking and partnering with corporate companies and schools across the United States. We are dedicated to raising funds for education and diabetes research to ultimately identify a cure.
Target demographics: Patients that are struggling with fluctuating glucose levels and do not have positive diabetes-related autoantibodies to support a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Educate families on the many different types of diabetes that exist. Important to spread awareness as the experts in this field believe there are 500,000 in the United States and 7,000,000 worldwide that are misdiagnosed as having type 1 or type 2 diabetes but really have Monogenic Diabetes.
Geographic areas served: Our goal is to educate people around the world on the many different types of diabetes that exist. Monogenic diabetes mimics type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The difference? Once a patient is identified through genetic testing, at times, depending on the mutation, the patient is able to transition off of insulin shots or insulin pump therapy and simply manage glucose successfully with oral diabetes meds. Truly life changing.
