I've been a Turnstone member for a year now. The chair fitness classes are great! The instructors are friendly and helpful. My favorite is the warm water therapy pool! The balance class in the pool has helped me tremendously. The pool fitness class with weights is a perfect way to exercise while the warm water feels nice on the joints. I'm grateful to have a facility like Turnstone in our community. The staff truly does care for your well being.
Turnstone is a nonprofit that offers premier programs and services. Over its 80+ years in the community, it has been an asset and touched the lives of many. When I have family, friends and neighbors that need a place to go, Turnstone is my first suggestion. I know that people I care about are in the hands of the best around.
My daughter has been going to Turnstone for therapy since she was 18 months old and she is 7 years old now. Her therapists have been through every season with us and have always provided support for my daughter and me as her mom. Each new task that my girl does is celebrated and if I ever have questions or need a listening ear they are there. We are very thankful
Turnstone is such a wonderful asset to the community. We have been coming here for 8 years for therapy and adaptive sports. The pool is very accessible with changing rooms that include adult size changing tables. The pool’s gradual ramp into the pool make entry easier. There are numerous adaptive sports to try and my son has really enjoyed meeting people through power soccer and boccia. The staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I’m very thankful to have this facility and programs available for people with disabilities.
My daughter started at the Kimberly Early learning center at two years old. We have had nothing but excellent care. She is absolutely thriving and learning so much. Her love for all is flourishing and we love that she gets to learn and grow alongside other kids of different abilities. The class sizes remain smaller which allows for more personalized care and one on one learning and attention. We are beyond blessed to have the opportunity for her be part of turnstone’s story!
Turnstone provides the highest level of care to all of their clients. They serve all ages and abilities and meet each client where they are! The staff is welcoming and caring for all who walk through their door!
A recent diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease brought us to Turnstone for their Rock Steady Boxing group. This group is instrumental in delaying the need for a wheelchair and for regaining some use and strength of my left side. Staff is always friendly and caring, ready to assist with any need for the day.
Turnstone is like a second home for me. Seeing all the people that are committed to changing lives is one of my favorite things. The atmosphere is welcoming and safe which makes it all the better. Turnstone has also helped me and my family so much. From the deepest part in heart if you have the chance to choose Turnstone than do it. You won't regret it!
I have known about Turnstone for over 9 years. I had always heard great things about them. I retired from work 3 1/2 years ago and needed something to do to keep active in retirement. So I started volunteering for different sporting events and joined the fitness center. I fell in love immediately with the staff, the clients and athletes. They were all so welcoming and I felt at home and that this was the place for me! I soon added on trying out as many sports activities as possible. I continue to play Boccia, Basketball and Sled hockey. Not only do I feel better physically, but emotionally and socially as well. I highly recommend Turnstone and tell people not to wait !
I love Turnstone for so many reasons!
After my Traumatic Brain Injury 10 years ago, I was discharged from rehabilitation in Chicago. I started working with a Physical Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, and a Speech Therapist at Turnstone. Without their help and experience, I definitely wouldn’t be as independent as I am now. I’ve definitely struggled, but now I’m living independently.
Also, I have been a proud client of the Adult Day Services (ADS) for 9 years.
I highly recommend Turnstone! The staff of ADS are highly skilled and knowledgeable, the Fitness staff are excellent and well trained, and the facilities are spectacular!
I have been a donor to this organization for over 30 years. The organization is very mission focused, very committed to serving people with disabilities of all ages in its area of service with no regard to the he family’s financial situation. Creative. Hires professional staff who are committed to the mission. Beautiful one of a kind facility. The organization makes sure it’s donors are aware of how their money is used; volunteers and donors are appreciated and I’m glad this one of a kind organization is located in the community that I live in. They have provided services to my parents as they aged. And I hope they will be there to help me if, and when, I need them as I get older.
I absolutely love this place! I am coming here because my husband had a stroke and needed to keep exercising. While he is doing his thing with equipment I walk the track and use some equipment.
The staff is wonderful. The clients I visit with are wonderful. You never know what there situation is but I love talking with them and making them laugh. I look forward to coming the 4 days a week that we come. Coming here is truly a blessing for me as well as for my husband! Never knew what all can be done for people with all kinds of disabilities. It is truly amazing.
Thank God for Turnstone!
Turnstone has provided so many opportunities for our grandson to excel! His therapy and therapist, Mary, has helped him to control his movements, and she has provided us with so many suggestions of thing to do to help him. The pool offers him a way to relax his muscles. He has been a member of the power soccer team for years and loves it! Being able to participate in a sport and be part of a team is so important for children and adults. Turnstone provides that opportunity! Turnstone hosts tournaments throughout the year that not many other facilities can facilitate! Thank you Turnstone!
I absolutely love Turnstone!
I have often said: "Turnstone is the first place I have ever been where I immediately felt like a whole person!" My disability didn't matter, and I didn't have to prove myself. They have a wonderful facility. In fact, I know of none like it! Their staff is very well trained and very caring towards their clients. Their programs and services are aimed at helping individuals with disabilities live more fulfilling and rewarding lives! My family and I have been connected with Turnstone since 2000. I can definitely say we are better for it.
Turnstone also works very hard at keeping services affordable so that individuals can get the help they need. I am currently availing myself of their counseling services, which have been extremely helpful with the death of my husband this last year. I would gladly recommend Turnstone to anyone!
I have no problem with Turnstone itself at all...it's the employees that can make or break any organization. There's a therapist that provoked discord with a client's family by defending an issue with someone who isn't in anyway affiliated with Turnstone, that I have a problem with...it's none of her business! She talks outside of Turnstone even when her boss says she doesn't! And if you aren't willing to be the "problem" and you never were, the boss will make you the problem, collaboratively. There's no winning for the client by making you the problem, you have no choice but to leave and the boss knows it and is what she ultimately wants. It's not about your disabled child at all! Some of the employees at Turnstone forgot that they need the clients as much as the clients needs them!
Carol Atha is the absolute BEST pediatric social worker at Turnstone! Thank you, Carol for all you've done for my family!
Angela, Tim (Physical Therapy), & Kelly (Occupational Therapy) have made my experience with Turnstone exceed my expectations. I have not had the best past experiences with other places. Angela has ensured my experience to go smoothly without any stress on my part at all. All three individuals have consistently listened to my questions and concerns without making me feel like a burden. My health has improved since I have joined Turnstone as a client and member. They have gained a lifelong member who will only consider Turnstone for my health related and gym/pool needs. Thank you for all that you do! In my opinion, Turnstone is the best choice and only choice for me!!!!!
Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities is an incredible nonprofit organization. It is one of its kind in the United States, and the patients who attend Turnstone for therapies know this. It is truly rewarding to hear about the successes the patients have at Turnstone.
I have two sons with the same rare disease and one of those sons has an additional rare disease in which they need speech and feeding therapy. The level of care and dedication that my sons have received at Turnstone is top notch and worth every minute!
We made the switch to Turnstone after being with a different rehab facility for over 2 years. Our boys are making amazing progress at Turnstone!
I have been going to Turnstone for over 10 years and have made great increases in strength and self confidence. I always enjoy the environment and positive people I come in contact with.
I have been a member of Turnstone for 19 months. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and suffer from spinal disease. I was looking for a program that would help with balance and strength, as luck would have it, they had begun a Rocksteady boxing class that I joined immediately after my tour. The fitness center is well staffed with knowledgeable trainers. The therapy pool is well designed, soothing and safe for all ages and conditions. I feel blessed to have the services of the Rocksteady family, Arianna, Zach, Jess, OJ, EJ and others. Turnstone allowed us to form a Parkinson’s support group as well as giving each individual attention as needed. I can’t thank them enough and hope that I am afforded many years of participation in this wonderful organization.
Turnstone offers various opportunities for community involvement as well as volunteer service. Volunteers are enriched to learn about diverse populations as well as gain skills and knowledge about training various individuals. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from and service with Turnstone Cetner.
The USF student PTA program attended a presentation, tour, and aquatic/athletic facility presentation by Turnstone. It was very thorough and had a great message about not judging someone by their disability. The students and myself really enjoyed it and will definitely be coming back next year. It was very well organized and a fantastic message to our future clinicians!
We love, love, love Turnstone and the people who bring the building and programs to life! We've had the privilege of working with the team at Turnstone on the award-winning U.S. Department of State Global Sports Mentoring Program: Sport for Community. The program was named best diplomatic action of year by Peace & Sport, Monaco and received the ESPN Stuart Scott Humanitarian Award, both in 2018. Turnstone has hosted and mentored international delegates using sport to advance the rights of people with disabilities from: Uganda, Fiji, Argentina, Lebanon, Paraguay, and China - demonstrating their commitment and competencies to connect with diverse people from every corner of the globe. Their partnership is treasured and we're honored to walk alongside their entire team to protect and promote the rights of people with disabilities in Ft. Wayne, the state of Indiana, and around the world.
I went to Turnstone to learn more about sport for people with disability because in my country we do not have this type of center. What I most surprise and like of this place was that the people can have the change to now about several sports, then grow and practice one until get to high performance sport (if they want) To me this mean a hug opportunity for people with disability, any time of their, life they have the possibility to rehabilitate and find motivation through sports and a community that supports to them.
In addition to the amazing work Turnstone does locally and regionally for people with disabilities, they also serve as a mentor organization for the Sport 4 Community Global Sports Mentoring Program (an initiative funded by the US Department of State) which brings men and women working in the field of disability sports from around the world to the United States for a 5-week mentorship program. Through this program, Turnstone's impact is multiplied on a global scale as they share their experience, knowledge, and passion with the delegates who are paired with them each spring. The delegates take the information freely shared with them by Turnstone leadership and staff and take it back to their home countries where they are working to improve the lives of people with disabilities in their home communities.
Turnstone has been a tremendous partner in this shared initiative with the University of Tennessee Center for Sport Peace & Society and I have been honored to see up close the impact they have had on the program participants. They really are changing the world!
Turnstone has an amazing "can do" attitude. They work tirelessly to figure out how to help our daughter achieve her dreams. They do not dream for her and tell her what to do. Rather, they work to support and enable her dreams.
Turnstone does amazing work for our community. They offer services for people for the entire span of someone's life that could benefit. They house a national goalball team and have a heated pool for physical therapy services. Everyone that is staffed in their gym has a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or something similar to that. They are an amazing place with quite the history and there are only two other places like them in the entire country. I work at the massage department at Ivy Tech and we have been taking field trips there to help learn about people that are differently abled than us for a few years now.....and they are so accommodating and take educating the community seriously. I appreciate everything about this place....they are so helpful and I am so thankful.
In my time volunteering at Turnstone I saw so many lives made better by their involvement there, especially children. Turnstone has so many programs for people to take part in. The thing that struck me the most in my time there is I rarely saw small children cry or act up. Everyone enjoys being there participating in the programs or being a spectator.
Turnstone has and continues to provide excellent services to my husband Alfred Woods. Turnstone makes the impossible possible for individuals with disabilities. I appreciate and can't thank the staff, Volunteers, and donors enough !
I absolutely love Turnstone. I've been going there for over 10 years now since I was 15. Turnstone has given me opportunities that I didn't think were possible due to my disability. With them I have tried several different sports, attended different social events, made new friends, and increased my own confidence through exploring different task. Turnstone and it's staff are amazing.
Turnstone has been a blessing to our family. Our daughter was born prematurely, and because of that, suffers from retinopathy of prematurity. Because she has such little vision, she can only play sports in a safe environment. With Turnstone's adaptive sports program, they gave her just that. It also opened up a whole new world of competing that she did not know existed. Because of Turnstone, she now has the passion to graduate from college with a degree to allow her to work with children with disabilities. She currently interns with Turnstone, and we appreciate every mentor who has helped guide and inspire her along the way.
