I have known Robert Cox for decades in a variety of roles. In 2015 he came to me and shared his method for treating autism from a trauma perspective. I see that others in the mental health field are now coming around to embrace the trauma perspective. Welcome aboard! Robert and I share a vision of better treatment for a person with disability and a fully included lifestyle. We agree that not all disabilities are visible. Special Needs Services of Ray County has partnered with Robert Cox to provide assessment and treatment recommendations as well as providing on-going therapy. He has achieved some miraculous results. He is the first person I reach out to when the individuals I serve are in crisis. I have attached a photo of Robert's book, "The Life Recovery Method: Autism Treatment from a Trauma Perspective." Inside the front cover of his book you will see my words of 2015, "One third of all the individuals served by Special Needs Services of Ray County have a diagnosis of autism. Many of those individuals have experienced a trauma that reemerges in episodes of self-harm, depression, harm to others, and isolation. Mr. Cox has taught Mindfulness Training to individuals with autism that has allowed these individuals to move their thoughts past the trauma. I credit Mr. Cox with encouraging individuals to focus on what their life can become. Individuals are now making eye contact with others and speaking for themselves. The are working alongside their neighbors in competitive jobs. Many have left their natural homes and are learning how to live with supports in their community. Without the assessment and on-going therapy provided by Mr. Cox, our agency would still be responding to 911 calls and attempting to console desperate caregivers." Suzan Breen, Executive Director, Special Needs Services of Ray County.
My son is autistic and was in such a bad situation that the school was trying to place him in an alternative school and our home life was miserable.
After a few month of counseling with Mr. Cox everything started to turn around.
We’ve been going for about two years now, this year his school talked about putting my son into accelerated classes. He’s now a great student with no melt downs at school.
Our home life is so much better.
When life throws us a curve ball, I can message Mr. Cox and he will get my son in immediately, even if it means an evening appointment.
I truly feel that he cares for our family and finding him, after multiple counselors were unable to help us, truly feels like winning the lottery. It made everything important to me finally line up and allow for a happy life. I am incredibly grateful and could never put into words how much this organization has changed our lives.
Robert and his mission is such an amazing, much-needed service. If we could clone Robert and have him in every city in America we would. His expertise, patience, humor, generosity and understanding is what this world needs more of. We are forever grateful for finding him for our daughter’s needs. Funding this non-profit would be a win for so many. - Stogner family
Hello, I am a current client of Robert Cox. He has been my therapist for over 5 years.
I have several mental illnesses that have plaqued me since I was a child. These include: PTSD, Panick Aniexity Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, DID, and Suicial Ideation.
I didn't have any idea that the trauma I experienced as a child could affect me as it has. I didnt know why I had the behaviors that I displayed. I thought that I was born with missing pieces. Needless to say living was a constant struggle for me.
Since Robert Cox has been my therapist, I have learned a great deal about how trauma affected me, and how not to hate myself for what others did to me. He helped save my life.
Robert is knowledgeable about mental illness and addictions, non-judgmental, and truly cares about my work in recovery.
I believe that if he can help me, The Triston Jevon Center For Recovery can and will help others also.
Tristn Jevon Center for Recovery was a good choice to make for myself. Dr. Mason Lumpkins listens to every word I say and continues to help me through recommendations and therapeutic sessions.
