Mission: To improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families through therapy, recreation, education, and exploration.
Programs: Hippotherapy uses the horse as the therapy tool and is designed for individuals with disabilities to increase balance and control of movement on and off the horse. Specially trained volunteers are used as the direct link between the therapist or instructor's guidance to a client and the achievement of personal therapeutic goals using the movement of the horse. Hippotherapy served 92 individuals.
adaptive therapeutic riding allows individuals with disabilities, specifically developmental, cognitive, and behavioral, to focus on their personal therapeutic goals and everyday living skills through learning to ride a horse more independently. Certified riding instructors facilitate this program and are trained to use the horse as a conduit to help individuals achieve therapeutic goals. Specially trained volunteers serve to support the rider under the direction of the certified riding instructor. 70 individuals participated in adaptive therapeutic riding this year.
inclusionary summer camp experiences are provided for 96 children ages 5 to 17 with and without disabilities. All participants have hands-on activities with horses, including grooming, tacking, and riding. Campers will have multiple encounters with horses each day, but will also participate in various other traditional camp activities that will involve music, art, nature walks, water play, and special appearances from unique visitors throughout the camp. What truly sets our camp apart from others is that it is run by occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and certified riding instructors who are able to provide a more positive inclusionary experience (see schedule o)while also meeting the specific needs of our campers that have a wide range of disabilities. This camp is also designed to have a small camper to staff ratio.
