Programs: Tree fund provides directed and competitive grants to scholars and researchers to conduct primary and applied research to increase practical knowledge and promote best techniques in arboriculture, urban forestry, and related professional fields. Most grants are multiple year awards, and tree fund is actively engaged in managing them from inception to completion and dissemation of final reports. Tree fund also actively engages nationally with the arboriculture research industry to identify needs and present findings in a variety of venues, and administers all processes associated with requesting and reviewing proposals for research awards. In fy 2017, tree fund awarded eight new research grants with net value of $167,859, while continuing to manage 12 multi-year grants from prior fiscal years.
tree fund provides grants to charitable organizations and implements direct programs designed to increase awareness of arboriculture and urban forestry among the general public, thereby encouraging property owners, businesses, and municipalities to manage urban and community forests in ways that promote individual, civic and environmental health. The premiere 2017 community engagement was a seven-day cycling event with multiple outreach programs along its route. Tree fund also issued four community engagement grants valued at $20,000 total, while offering four webinars with ~1,500 attendees and two other public events, advertising widely around the country, maintaining active social media campaigns, and issuing a monthly newsletter targeted to lay readers.
