Mission: The mission of the tia foundation (the foundation) is to support the activities of the tire industry association (tia) by developing, organizing, and coordinating educational and training programs.
Programs: Automotive tire service program - the foundation offers basic, certified and instructor ats training. Basic ats covers the basic principles of tires and wheels, including sizing and sidewall information; procedures for raising a vehicle using in-ground, above ground and portable lift equipment; tire and wheel assembly removal and installation; step-by-step demount, mount and inflation procedures using a center post and rim clamp tire machine; tire and wheel assembly balancing procedures and guidelines; diagnosing tire and wheel problems; and step-by-step procedures for installing one-piece and two-piece nail hole repairs in passenger and light truck tires. The certified ats program includes the tia certified automotive tire service manual. The ats manual includes: in-depth information on sidewall markings; tire size conversions; replacement guidelines; assembly removal procedures; demounting/mounting/inflating; tire balancing procedures; assembly run-out measurement; indexing; one-piece/two-piece nail hole repair guidelines and procedures; assembly installation and inspection; fastener torque procedures; and diagnosing tire problems. In 2017, an update of the ats program was released.
commercial tire service program - the foundation offers basic, certified and instructor cts training. There is also a spanish version of basic and certified cts. Tia's basic commercial tire service (cts) training and certificate program covers the step-by-step procedures for demounting, mounting and inflating both single and multi-piece tire and rim assemblies. It also covers inspection procedures for identifying potential zipper ruptures in steel cord radial medium and light truck tires along with disc wheel and demountable rim service, maintenance and inspection procedures. Tia's certified cts program also outlines the proper procedures for servicing truck tires and wheels. The foundation of the certified cts program is the tia commercial tire service manual. The cts manual includes information on tire construction, osha regulations, osha charts, zipper rupture inspection procedures, jacking/lifting, road service guidelines, hub/stud-piloted wheel service and inspection procedures, demountable rim service and inspection procedures, single/multi-piece demount/mount/inflation procedures, general repair guidelines, two/one-piece repair procedures, tube-type repair procedures, load/inflation tables and tire dimension/rim matching charts. There were no changes made to the program in 2017.
