As a beneficiary of this non-profit, I've been provided with the tools make it possible to attend university and thrive. I take advantage of their housing assistance and the mentor program which has lead me to opportunities that wouldn't be possible before joining ThruProject. The staff is so welcoming and have gone above and beyond to make me feel supported and provided for.

I have a wonderful experience being a mentor through Project Thru. The staff has always been proactive in communications, and actively seek ways to hear about our experience as mentor while also finding ways to celebrate us often. They definitely have people in the organization who care and are passionate about what they do!

My name is Sophia. I have been in foster care for about 6 years and when I got out it was very hard to find a place to live let alone afford it. Not only was I living out of my car but also couch hopping and trying to do school and work full-time. With this nonprofit, they got me back on my feet and now I am decorating my first apartment and living stress-free knowing I can save money while doing school and work. Thank you so much for this opportunity. ❤️

I started my journey as a mentor by researching non-profits and volunteer work I can include my 4 kids in to help give them a sense of community involvement. Unfortunately, they were too young to take part in any type of community service. I came across THRU Project and found an immediate sense of connection due to having a good friend of mine in high school (who was also in foster care) was a victim of homicide shortly after she aged out of the system. I wanted to be able to participate in the program to both be a role model for my children and bless a young person’s life by helping guide them to focus on changing the trajectory of their life.

I have been a mentor for a year now and have seen so much internal growth in my mentee in this short period of time. It is both invigorating and encouraging watching her come to a self-realization that her potential is endless and her ability to grow is infinite. I myself, have many life lessons I’ve learned growing up that are extremely helpful and motivating to overcome so many challenges or obstacles faced on a daily basis that I am able to bestow upon her. I feel these life lessons are invaluable to any young person and this experience has also helped me grow as a person, a mother, and a friend. I work hard on instilling morals, principals, and values that she was never given the opportunity to be exposed to AND ABOVE ALL ELSE TEACH HER TO PUT GOD FIRST IN EVERYTHING!

Having the opportunity to collaborate with THRU Project has been so amazing! I love that there is so much help and resources available such as; life skills, housing, phones, furniture, education, health, etc. Every member of the organization I’ve come across is clearly passionate and intentional about their cause and willing to go above and beyond for my mentee to help her succeed. I feel as though the sense of community created by THRU Project is the most important aspect for these youth that long for a sense of belonging to a higher purpose. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your organization and the sky is the limit!

I can't say enough about all the wonderful services THRU Project provides for youth with a history of foster care that are transitioning into independent living. Since 2019, I began my journey as a mentor, donor, sponsor, and recently, a committee member. I'm in awe of the growth I've seen not only with the number of youth they are able to serve with their expanding services but also with the additional friendly staff they've brought in. The cohesiveness of this dedicated staff to serve the youth in this community is outstanding. I'm so grateful to be a part of this amazing organization!

I feel so honored to be a volunteer mentor for this wonderful organization over the past year. THRU Project is so instrumental in providing resources to older teens aging out of the foster care system. My experience as a mentor comes from our own international adoption of our then 10 year old son who had been in the orphanage since he was 3 years old. Every child needs to feel loved and valued whether they get adopted or not. THRU Project does their part by providing mentors and resources to the many children in the foster care system.

I cannot say enough about this amazing organization! The passion and drive to help foster youth aging out of care is seen in every move they make! From mentoring to housing programs and everything in between, the THRU Project is truly a place where foster youth can go to get the help they need and learn more about the resources that are available to them.

THRU Project's Board of Directors is diverse in its members' business expertise and their knowledge of running an effective nonprofit is matched only by each member's passion for helping foster youth.

I also have the ability to see the organization through the lens of a corporate donor, and again, their dedication, passion, ability to communicate, and drive to maintain relationships that benefit the youth are unmatched and ever evolving!

This is a one-of-a-kind organization for which the sky is the limit!

THRU Project has proven to be a successful organization driven to help youth aging out of foster care. With many programs specifically designed to assist foster youth right when and where they need it most - bus passes for transportation, cell phones for communication, mentoring for real world advice, and stable housing assistance. The organization's ability to pivot quickly and assist foster youth immediately as their environment changes (for example during the ongoing health pandemic) is critical to solidifying their success in the world. It is a privilege to know and work with these folks!!

THRU Project is truly one of the "Great Nonprofits" and for many reasons.

Their staff is dedicated to the foster teens and former foster youth that they serve. They don't treat the youth like just another number. They take great care in ensuring each youth feels safe, feels heard, has access to any resources they may need, and they encourage every youth to reach for their goals.

THRU Project's Board of Directors is diverse in its members' business expertise and their knowledge of running an effective nonprofit is matched only by each member's passion for helping foster youth.

Finally, you can be assured that every dollar donated to THRU Project is going towards trying to reach and engage the thousands of youth who age out every year in Texas. THRU Project regularly updates its donors and the general public of the real world impact they're making with the support of donor dollars. They have been awarded with Guidestar's Platinum Transparency, which is the highest level.

Not only am I board member of THRU Project, I also call myself mentor and friend to several youth in our program. I love the strength of our mentor program as the cornerstone of THRU Project because all the research shows that youth who age out of foster care have a higher success rate AFTER aging out when they have a dedicated mentor. Makes sense considering that most of these young adults don't have much to rely upon in terms of a stable support system when they age out of foster care. They go from "all decisions made" for them while in care to being "graduated" out of that system and expected to be "instant adults."

THRU Project exists to help arm them with the resources and support to help navigate a hard world. We are here for them so that they know that they're not alone.

THRU Project has done some fantastic things for youth that have aged out of the foster care system. These youth have had multiple placements, multiple schools, multiple caseworkers, etc. They end up with no reliable adult in their life to give them support, guidance, and encouragement to help them overcome the overwhelming challenges that they face. The THRU Project matches each youth with a mentor that helps them navigate through this period in their lives. In addition, tangible resources are furnished such as a cell phone, bus pass, life skills workshops, and even a housing program. This program is making a difference and changing lives. This program is turning youth from ones that nobody wants to ones that everybody wants.

My wife and I fostered children for 10 years. When the opportunity arose to support the THRU Project, I jumped at the chance to get involved. Youth that are aging out of the foster care system are an under served population in our community. Being part of an army rather than just an audience concerning an issue appeals to me. I want to use my platform and invest my influence into improving the lives of others. The THRU Project is changing lives and making a difference. The THRU Project is providing one of the greatest gifts that can be given, HOPE.

THRU Project has worked wonders in the lives of foster youth who have aged out of foster care. Seeing the changes this program has made in a young person’s life who left foster care not knowing where and how they would live is amazing. This program has helped prior foster youths to get established in the community, provided mentors to help guide them in directions such as completing school and learning a skill or trade. This program aids the youth in learning about life and the skills needed to be contributing citizens who often go on to complete college and then they come back to help others like themselves. While THRU is a young program, it has made a difference in these youth lives. See what the youth have to say.

This agency has transformed lives of youth aging out of the Foster Care System. THRU Project's innovative programs, support systems and tools have enhanced this program beyond the dreams of the founders. Having been on the board for 6+ years I have seen this agency go from 20 kids being mentored to over 160 participating in the mentoring program - obviously something is working!!! They are staying and benefiting from the programs.

As a former Foster Child I have seen the positive influence Mentoring is having on young people. The process is transformative. Its providing Foster Youth with a caring Adult who wants only to Help and Guide the Youth navigate this sometimes intimidating and complex world. Can you imagine being 18 years old and being thrown out in to the world with no family or permanent home to go back to? No resources, no one to ask for information or help. Well this is where the Thru Program comes in and is so valuable. It provides the Youth with something steady that they can count on. I wish there was a Thru Project when I was growing up in Foster Care , I know it would have helped me and my foster siblings.

Not only does THRU Project make an enormous impact on the individual level - 100 and counting matches of former foster youth with mentors - its mission of long-term and far-reaching support and advocacy has been tremendously successful. I knew I had to support the THRU Project after hearing a testimonials from former foster youth about what they had achieved with the help of their THRU support networks. The Next Step Housing Program is only going to make an already powerful agent of change even better. THRU Project's results are strong and only going to get better. San Antonio is so lucky to have this organization!

THRU Project is a great organization that works to help both current foster and former foster youth. I have seen personally the impact having just one person in your corner can make. They offer mentoring, bus passes, cell phone service, life-skills workshops and even housing! These youth leave foster care with so little and what they are doing to help bridge the gap is so vital.

THRU Project is an organization serving the young men and women leaving foster care in San Antonio. What I appreciate most is that they do not try to serve every need of these youth but instead connect them to vital resources already available in the community. By matching older foster youth with one of their adult volunteers the youth 1) remains connected to resources that can help them learn to live independently from foster care and 2) form a friendship with what may be the only reliable and trustworthy adult in their life. Only takes a few hours of volunteer time a month to make a real impact. The one two-hour training was entertaining but also provided practical information.
