Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: To provide basic compassionate assistance to polk county residents who are unable to meet their basic life needs.
Programs: Thermal belt outreach maintains a food pantry to provide a weeks worth of groceries to qualified individuals once a month. It is also able to provide other products such as paper, hygiene products and limited clothing. The pantry is stocked with in-kind donations from manna food bank, bilo, food lion, united way of the piedmont,as well as donations by groups and monetary contributions. These items are used to supplement family needs. An average of 220 families were served monthly.

feed-a-kid program provides a bag of food throughout the school year for school children who qualify in polk county to take home on week-ends. During the summer months bags are provided weekly with the support of the congregational church of tryon. During the school year on average of 235 bags were provided on a weekly basis.
shelter assistance in the form of rent, utilities, mortgage and home repair payments are made on behalf of clients who are unable to meet their basic life needs. Clients must meet pre-determined qualifying thresholds. In most cases, clients provide a partial co-pay and can only receive assistance at given intervals established by the organization. We serve an average of 23 families monthly.
