Mission: Therapeutic Adventures (TA) exists to educate, to challenge, and to inspire people of all ages and abilities to live a healthy lifestyle through active participation in adaptive outdoor recreation, and adaptive outdoor adventures. Our Commitment: Through our unique approach to teaching, coaching, adaptive guiding and mentoring, TA provides leadership, programs and specialty therapeutic services to embolden people of all abilities with the courage to improve their functional independence, fitness and overall quality of life. What differentiates TA from other programs is: (1) our diverse experience; as well as (2) our innovative, and individualized approach to instruction and program development. IndependencePlus - Adaptive Sports (I~AS) exists to educate, to challenge, and to inspire people of all ages and abilities to live a healthy lifestyle through active participation in adaptive sports. Our Commitment: Recognizing the important therapeutic benefits of active participation in adaptive sports and recreation, IndependencePlus - Adaptive Sports (I~AS) provides leadership, programs and specialty therapeutic services that embolden our clients to improve their health and fitness, functional independence, and overall quality of life. What differentiates IndependencePlus - Adaptive Sports (I~AS) from other programs is: (1) our diverse experience; and (2) our innovative approach to instruction and program development.
Results: Therapeutic Adventures and IndependencePlus Adaptive Sports has been blessed to serve approximately 3900 individuals providing more than 5,550 instructional lessons. Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. and IndependencePlus Adaptive Sports has a strong background of excellence which has evolved out of the extraordinary works of Erling Stordahl, founding father of the world famous Beitostolen Healthsports Centre in Norway; the highly honored and acclaimed Sir Ludwig Guttman, founding father of wheelchair sports and the First International Disabled Olympic Games at Stoke-Manville, England; the distinguished Dr. Kurt Hann, founder and driving force behind the highly reputed Outward Bound Program, and highly respected Dr. Larry Brendtro, Dr. Martin Brokenleg, and Dr. Steve Van Bockern who have developed the extraordinary - Circle of Courage Model. The inspiration of these individuals and their common vision has influenced the services we offer. Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. has developed a unique and integrative approach to instruction using: our IndependencePlus Model, our Adaptive - Circle of Courage model, and our Adaptive Outdoor Skills Mastery System. Through our unique approach to teaching, coaching, guiding and mentoring, we embolden our adaptive students/clients to set goals and to strive for functional independence. Our belief that ALL persons learn and benefit by being provided with opportunities to develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-reliance - has provided Therapeutic Adventures and IndependencePlus Adaptive Sports with a proven framework for success. Programs: OUR PROGRAMS are categorized in two general areas: Therapeutic Adventures (TA) (adaptive outdoor adventures) and IndependencePlus Adaptive Sports (IP~AS) (recreational and competitive adaptive sports). OUR PROJECTS focus on: (1) education and outreach; (2) accessibility; (3) safety & risk management; (4) conservation & eco-stewardship; (5) leadership development; (6) research and development (R&D) OUR EVENTS are comprised of adaptive camps, adaptive sports clinics, therapeutic retreats, races, and volunteer service projects.
