Great organization, great advocacy, community-focused!

I'm only part-way through the adoption process (PPE is pending for later this week!) but want to share my positive experience thus far. Ali and Amy are the primary people who you will interface with to find appropriate horses who may be matches. They are extremely transparent as far as explaining what a horse has currently done, whether it raced, what any special circumstances may have been, and sharing details about any prior lay-ups it might have had. They are also happy to show you the horse on the lunge, under saddle, and talk through how the horse is being worked. My best advice for a potential adopter is to be honest about what you're really looking for in your next partner, and also be honest with yourself about your own riding abilities and what types of personalities work the best with you.

We adopted Ella from BROOD in 2023 and are so grateful for this organization! The adoption process was very thorough. They were transparent about Ella's behaviors and needs, so there were no surprises. The foster parents provided a lot of information as well and were very friendly during the meet and greet with our other dog. We are so thankful we found BROOD and added Ella to our family. Would love to adopt from BROOD again the future!

We were at a loss for words when we got the call back for help with a kitten we rescued. The CAT action teams should have capes since they are real heros. We cannot thank them enough for being generous and helpful when we could hardly afford groceries let alot vet bills. You saved us by saving this sweet girl. Thank you for our sweet Edwina!

I grew up poor and went to college to get a degree in finance. My dad was a high school dropout and I was so proud to get into a top-notch university that was well known for being a pipeline to Wall Street, but my plans changed after a disheartening summer internship with a Fortune 50 company. I had just started volunteering the year before, so when I went back to school for my senior year I was anxious to plug back into the world of giving back.<br><br>So my senior year of college I started teaching financial literacy in a local high school in Washington, D.C. I quickly realized this meant trying to teach kids how to protect themselves from the banks that I was about to go work for. It's impossible to teach kids about compound interest when they don't know how to do basic math.<br><br>Happily educated but confused about my future, I returned to rural Virginia and went back to doing the construction work that I had done during the other summers I was in college. Soon I was looking at opportunities to use my ability to swing a hammer for good and I was excited to find Building Goodness Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing volunteers from the construction industry to the aide of other nonprofit organizations.<br><br>Shortly after I went to help build a community center in a rural town in Mississippi that had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. It was a magical two week experience learning about the local culture and seeing the sheds that BGF had built for homeowners in the town that many of them ultimately ended up using as temporary homes. It was a magical experience where working ten hour days in the hot southern sun seemed to fly by, easily enjoyed just thinking about the future smiling faces that would benefit from my labor.<br><br>Fast forward 7 years later, I have a lot more experience in construction and many more hours volunteering for other local nonprofits, from teaching more financial literacy to ESL classes. That volunteer experience with BGF defined my perception of life and I was never tempted to go back to chasing money over personal fulfillment, eventually leading me now to work in the position of the volunteer trip leader for BGF that took me to Mississippi years ago.

Truly find it upsetting that each time Breath of Hope has requested reviews they receive some from people who obviously have another agenda for another charity. It is sad that an organization that is committed to transparency who supplied the IRS with forms before even being required to do so and continues to provide a more detailed form rather than the postcard which is required is continued to be ridiculed by whom? Breath of Hope has no paid employees, they were the first CDH organization to donate to medical research, first CDH organization to give scholarships and first CDH organization to give packages to those expecting or who have a newborn with CDH, yet they are bashed. <br> <br>And that charity's President is all about filing one lawsuit after another against Breath of Hope - and the two that were filed - BOTH were dismissed! DISMISSED! So stop bringing them up and dividing the community!

I joined Writerhouse because I liked their support for NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month. I've made friends with fellow writers, listened to excellent readings, viewed exceptional artworks, and typed thousands of words in the comfort of the facility.
